Chapter Two: Help Wanted
At the LXG Secret Brief Room…
"Well men…and woman," Henry Jekyll said, acknowledging Mina Harker at the last minute, "It looks like we have room for one more League member…"
"Yeah, but who?" Tom Sawyer asked. His eyes shone with indignation through his shaggy blonde hair. Why are they so eager to replace Allan?
"They have to be good," Mina said, "This next mission definitely calls for the best we've all got in us. This…"
"Rasputin." Henry offered.
"Yes, Rasputin, has been reincarnated by a strange force to bring hell to Earth. He is more powerful than Moriarty, and he's driven by more than greed. Seeing that he's from hell, I'd say he's driven by-"
"The seven deadly sins?" Henry interrupted.
"Yes, now if you please, I am talking," Mina said with a deadly calm voice, "As I was sayi-"
"Excuse me, I am not familiar with these deadly sins." Nemo interjected. Mina closed her eyes tight, probably counting to ten to reduce her temper.
Sawyer answered, "Lust, greed, wrath, sloth, pride, gluttony, envy, right? Anyone of those and," he made a wind sound effect, pointing down, "you're in hell for sure."
Mina, still counting with a pained look on her face, gritted out, "Yes. Now for the most important part-"
"Hello my freaky darlings, sorry I'm late, those stairs seem to go to hell."
Mina groaned and collapsed into her chair, perhaps pushed to the edge by Skinner's unfortunate timing and his statement's uncanny relevancy to what she was trying to say.
Skinner, utterly oblivious as usual, strutted cockily into the room and threw his coat on a chair. He tossed a newspaper over to Mina and Nemo's direction. The headline read:
"WANTED MURDERER STRIKES AGAIN"
"Apparently, a Louis Chardón was convicted today of arms dealing and murder upon his estate's inspection. After being killed by an unknown vigilante it seems." Mina said, relieved that no one had interrupted her through out her sentence.
"By a man known only as 'The alleged killer'." smirked Tom, apparently trying to make a joke.
Nemo looked down at the sentence that caught his attention most.
"There is no artist's rendering of the murderer, for there are none surviving or unafraid to report any of his characteristics."
"You think we should get 'im?" Skinner asked, his grease-painted face cocked to one side.
"I think so…" Henry said.
Tom sighed.
"Another wild goose-chase."
In Paris….
Skinner thought a very profound thought to himself as he walked into an alleyway with an unconscious person in tow.
I hate this job.
He propped the unconscious man up against the wall. He straightened his invisible, trench coat-clad self up, making sure his wig was in place. He was to look completely visible to people looking at his back.
Feeling completely self-loathing, he began to beat the motionless man up, making the pained sounds himself. You see, knocked-out people don't usually make sounds themselves.
"Urgh...unnggh…ahhh!" He cried out. In his mind, he was pleading…
Please let this work, please let this work…
Suddenly, he heard a deafening screech of metal upon metal. He acted quick, throwing off his coat, hat, and wig. The vigilante's head turned left and right, to see where the man had gone.
Skinner crept and quietly as he could (which was very, very quiet seeing as he was an accomplished thief) and knocked the masked vigilante upside the head.
The next thing Remy saw as she opened her eyes was a blinding white ceiling. Shutting her eyes tight, she tried to think of what happened.
There was…a man….and he was being beaten by…air?
She searched her mind and found no recollection of whoever knocked her out in the first place. But why would anyone-
Oh no.
She raised her hand to her face and felt for her mask. It was still on. But where were her switchblades? She sat up quickly, sending a rushing pain into her head. She clutched the back of her head and looked around the large, white, round room. Was she in a mental hospital? Of course not. If anyone found her, she'd be in jail. There was no sign of her switchblades though. She got up, seizing a candlestick near the bed she'd been laying in. Holding it in a combative position tightly, she walked slowly towards the door. Silently, she turned the door knob and stepped out…into a library?
Shelves adorned all of the walls, and a long, polished, wooden table was placed in the middle of the room. She looked past a corner and slowly inched further into the space.
"Heh heh heh…."
Spinning her candlestick and taking a deep breath, she whirled around to see who had laughed. A tall man with shaggy blonde hair stood before her, smirking bemusedly at her "weapon"
"I'd be scared to come across you with that thing," he said, hardly containing his laughter.
Remy held fast, raising her candlestick, perhaps to show him that he should be scared, when all of a sudden he yelled,
"Hey, everyone, he's awake!"
Out of another back room, an Indian man, a nervous looking man fiddling with a pocket watch, a intimidating woman in a scarf, and…
A person in a trench coat, that was completely…invisible. \
Remy now understood why she had not remembered what her captor looked like at all.
"We are the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen," the Indian man said impressively, "I am Nemo. Next to you," he gestured toward the blonde man, "is Tom Sawyer."
Tom nodded his head in greeting. Nemo continued,
"This is Mina Harker," Mina inclined her head, "and that is Henry Jekyll," the man named Henry smiled nervously, "and over there is-"
"Rodney Skinner." The invisible man said in a Cockney accent.
They were all looking rather expectantly at Remy.
"The least you could do is take off that mask thing," Skinner said, "You've seen all our faces. Well, perhaps not mine."
Remy sighed inwardly, and unbuckled her mask from the back. She pulled it off slowly, and Henry gave a somewhat shocked start.
…
…
….
"You're a….a…" Henry stuttered.
"A girl!" Sawyer exclaimed, "You're a girl?"
Now Remy was getting quite annoyed.
"Remy Baudelaire, at your service. Well, not really."
"We rather hoped you were," Nemo said calmly, "You see, our team is in need of a new member and we were hoping that you would join us."
"So…you knocked me out. Kidnapped me. Took me who knows where and now you want my help?"
The League's faces dropped somewhat.
"Yes, we did." Mina said, refusing to sound put out.
"Well then," Remy said, with a devilish smile, "Looks like you're my kind of people."
Well that's it then, I'll update as soon as I can!
