Chapter two: Three New Friends.
Mim woke the next day massaging her head as light came blazing through her slightly open window. She shot up, realizing that she was no longer in her own room and looked around in confusion for a while before remembering where exactly she was. Last night she had discovered that her father was not the quiet brunette that she had always looked up to but a being of high importance, a god.
It had come as quite a shock also to discover that her two greatest friends were her cousins, having also been fathered by a god. All three girls had blacked out when told and had to be carried into their rooms. Mim let out a little laugh as she remembered some of the looks Tiercil's father Suzaku would shoot Gwen's, who seemed bent on getting a rise out of him. It reminded her of how the girls act at an argument only they were ten times worse. Yawning slightly, Mim decided to sleep for a little longer, but just as she closed her eyes, a huge commotion blew up in the room next door, literally.
Tiercil had never slept more comfortable in her life. The room was huge and the bed was even bigger, with a soft downy mattress that made her feel like sleeping forever. But she never got the chance. Tai itskun had ordered the nyan nyans to wake the girls up for breakfast, and this particular one was in a mischievous mood today as she crept silently into the sleeping girls' room. With a swift jump and a giggle, nyan nyan pounced on the unsuspecting mound, waking poor Tiercil up in an instant. "What the f…" BANG.
Mim raced out of her room as soon as she heard the bang. Stopping at Tiercil's door she saw smoke seeping from underneath. As she wrenched it open, she only just had time to duck out of the way as a nyan came racing out, squealing with her pig tails on fire, shortly followed by a girl with her blackened hair stood on end and smoking. As soon as she saw Mim, Tiercil gave up on the nyan nyan and turned to her with a look that plainly said, "you laugh and your really gonna regret it." Mim turned away, her face going red with suppressed laughter as she surveyed the damage on the room.
It was black; the whole lot was simply covered with soot. The bed quits were smoking slightly and a small clean mark could be seen where someone or something had been blasted into the wall. The smell of charred wood and clothing wafted through the air causing Mim to duck back out again, gagging. As she turned around she noticed that Gwen had joined the group.
"What on earth happened here?" she cried as she spotted the room in its charred glory, "everything's….." she trailed off as her eyes fell on Tiercil. "Tiercil, snigger, do you realize that, giggle, your hair is smoking." Tiercil's eyes narrowed as Gwen fell down laughing, "Why don't you just shut up," she snarled. Gwen grabbed hold of a nearby chair and hoisted herself up, still laughing uncontrollably, "I can't…… help it..." she gasped, holding her stomach, "your face…is an absolute…picture."
Mim glanced in Tiercil's direction and sweat dropped as she saw the look of utter fury she was giving Gwen. "If I don't intervene now, wars gonna break out," she thought, swiftly standing between Gwen and the fuming (literally) Tiercil. "So what happened?" she said trying to change the subject. Tiercil gave Gwen a final death glare and turned to Mim. "I was sleeping peacefully when one of those little pests jumped on me, nearly frightened me to death. I put out my hands to shove her away, when something exploded out of them and I got blasted into the wall."
Gwen finally calmed down. "Well at least one good thing came out of this." Mim looked politely confused, while Tiercil glared in the opposite direction, ignoring the person who was now number one on her personal revenge list, "what?" Gwen rolled her eyes, "we now know that this idiot controls fire, heaven help and us we also now know not to let nyan nyans in her room in the morning. I bet it's gonna take hours to comb and wash her hair, snigger." Tiercil started to roll up her sleeves, battle blazing in both her eyes as she prepared to charge at Gwen. Mim saw it coming and whisked her away to find the kitchen, leaving a still laughing Gwen behind.
Just outside Mt taikyoku
"No way! NO WAY! I ain't goin' an that's final," bellowed a certain redhead as he tried to wrestle himself out of his friends grasp. All Tasuki ever wanted was a peaceful life, and he had begun to feel that he was getting it back at Mt reikaku. Then Chichiri turned up, demanding that he come with him to see Tai itskun. Tasuki hated the ugly old bat. Every time he saw her she seemed intent on giving him a heart attack, always popping up when he least expects it. Not that Chichiri is any better.
To make matters worse, Koji, his supposed best friend, had stepped forward with a big grin on his face and actually OFFERED to help Chichiri drag the bandit down to Tai itskun's. Talk about betrayal. So now here they were just outside her palace and still Tasuki was fighting them to let him go. But of course they couldn't until Tai itskun turned up, otherwise Tasuki would just go scooting back down to reikaku faster than they can blink.
"You're late," came a croaky voice from behind them. Tasuki and Koji yelped, jumping into each others arms in fright. "This is why I hate this place!" whimpered Tasuki tears streaking down his face, "that old hag's always doin that. I swear if I wasn't a seishi I'd be dead right now from the amount o' heart attacks she's given me." Koji nodded in agreement hiding behind his friend. "He's back already with that fool of a bandit, along with another idiot to take care of. I'm not going to get a moments peace," Tai itskun thought, glaring at the shaking redhead. "Chichiri," she smiled at the monk, "it's been a while, come on in"
Half an hour later, Tai itskun had finished explaining what had happened with the girls to Chichiri. The monk understood every thing. The bandits on the other hand looked utterly confused, no real surprise there. "So the gods Suzaku, Seiryu an Genbu went 'gainst yer wishes an ended up with three kids. Ya gotta be jokin'" exclaimed koji, talking for the first time in front of Tai itskun. Her eyes flashed and she stared at him, "I never joke about things like this," she said simply. Koji merely edged away, muttering something that sounded suspiciously like, "god, she's butt ugly."
Chichiri shook his head at his friend and turned back towards the creator. "Where are the gods now no da?" he asked. "They went back to the heavenly realms. Just because they have met their daughters for the first time in twenty years doesn't mean they have the right to slack off guarding their countries." She replied. "Tha's not fair," cried Tasuki, "don't cha think they should be able ta spend time with their kids? Even an old hag like you should know that." Chichiri tried to shut him up before that last part came out but it was too late. Tai itskun seemed to swell in rage, causing a certain bandit to turn tail and try run away.
"OH NO YOU DON'T!" yelled Tai itskun, grabbing his collar, "NO ONE CALLS ME AN OLD HAG AND GETS AWAY WITH IT." Tasuki looked up at Tai itskun with huge wide eyes and whimpered pitifully. The old woman heaved a huge sigh and released him, watching with a glare as he scuttled off behind Chichiri. "Why didn't cha help me?" he whined. Chichiri shrugged his shoulders, "I thought you deserved it no da," he said simply. He turned back to Tai itskun, "why have you called us here no da? I expect it's something to do with the girls no da?" the old woman nodded, "yes, I don't think it's time for that just yet. Now to introduce the girls."
Before she had even finished the last sentence a strangled yell came from the corridor outside the room and two girls came racing through the door barreling past koji while a third walked serenely in, rubbing her temple as she ran forward to separate the now brawling girls. "Take that ya stupid lizard. That should teach you for laughing at my hair this morning," cried Tiercil, poking Gwen in the eye. "Ouch that hurt, take this feather brain," retaliated Gwen as she bit her enemy's fingers.
Chichiri, koji and Tasuki watched in awe as the girls continued to battle before their very eyes. Chichiri glanced towards the one who wasn't fighting, a pretty girl with long dark green hair pulled up into brisk bun and glasses perched on the bridge of her nose, slightly magnifying a pair of the most dazzling emerald eyes he had ever seen.
"Are they always like that no da," he asked. The girl turned her face towards him and shook her head panting slightly with the effort of tugging Tiercil away from Gwen, "No," she replied simply, "they're worse. Would one of you mind giving me a hand? They may not look it but these two are surprisingly strong when they get into a fight." All three men nodded and soon the girls were stood at opposite corners of the room, glaring daggers at each other, Tiercil at one end being restrained by Tasuki while koji was calming down Gwen
"Let me go, you idiot let me go," complained Tiercil fight tooth and nail to get out of Tasuki's grasp. "Not on yer life," he replied, his face turning red with the effort of holding onto the fighting redhead, "you'd only…OUCH," yelled Tasuki, releasing Tiercil in order to nurse his sore, throbbing fingers, "what the hell did ya do that fer," he howled, cradling his hand. "It's your own stupid fault, you should have let go when I told you to." Tasuki let out an indignant sound, "now if I'd ave done that ya, would av bitten me head off," he said, glaring at her.
"Well at least I would have done us all a favour, wouldn't I," she spat back, her face bare inches from his. "An what makes ya think ya can beat me?" he growled, brandishing his tessen menacingly. "Puurlease, a man with a fan, how sad can you get!" she scoffed. A vein popped on tasuki's forehead. "Righ'ya gonna pay fer that," he bellowed raising his fan arm, "REKKA SHI… OI Chichiri gimme ma fan back." Chichiri merely shook his head, hugging the fan closer, while in a chibi form. Giving up, Tasuki shot every one in the room a vicious glare and slunk away to a distant corner, a dark cloud hovering over his head as he cursed every woman and monk in existence
Tai itskun looked at each person in turn, disbelief plain in her ancient eyes. She had never seen people who disagreed so much. "It's like working in room full of children," she thought, shaking her head. Tasuki shot an angry glare in the direction of Tiercil, who more than happily retaliated, with a less than lady like hand gesture. Tasuki answered with an even worse one and soon both were battling it out to see who could insult the other most. Chichiri and Mim watched in amazement as the fight continued, now with both using vocal insults.
"Well these two seem to get along, don't they?" sighed Mim, raising her eyebrows as Tasuki pulled out his newly retrieved tessen and waved it threateningly in Tiercil's face. Chichiri gave her a confused look, "but they aren't no da?" Mim let out a small laugh, "never mind," she smiled.
Gwen was thoroughly enjoyed this. Not only was Tiercil pissed, something Gwen normally accomplished, but she was pissed at someone other than her, giving Gwen the privilege of sitting back and watch the show without out the risk of black eye. Koji was just as amused. He leaned casually against the wall, his eyes moving from one to the other as a huge grin began to form, a sure sign that he was up to mischief. He glanced to his left and noticed Gwen with the same expression on her face. She turned to face him, her grin widening as she realized he was thinking the same thing.
Suddenly everyone's attention was back to the fighting duo as they heard an angry shout of, "OI GIVE THAT BACK!" as Tiercil finally had enough of tasuki's threats and grabbed his tessen, causing him to give chase. "Can't catch me, can't catch me!" she yelled, a Cheshire cat smile spreading across her face. "Oh yeah?" replied Tasuki, suddenly spurting towards her with a burst of seishi speed. "Yeah!" came the confident answer as Tiercil raced towards the window, her speed matching his perfectly. She stopped and held the fan outside, holding it so it dangled over the ledge. "Don't you even think about it?" Tasuki warned, his eyes fixed on his precious tessen.
"ENOUGH!" Tai itskun yelled, startling Tiercil so much she lost a hold on the tessen. "Nooo!" cried Tasuki, pushing Tiercil out of the way as he watched his tessen plummet down the valley. Tiercil, glanced towards her friends, who only glared back with a "it's your own stupid fault," look pasted on their faces. Tai itskun rubbed a weary hand across her ancient face. "As if one fang boy isn't bad enough, now I've got a female version for a granddaughter." She looked sternly at them both, "you act like a pair of overgrown five year olds. Try to keep your tempers under control. If not for yourselves, but for the sake of your friends. I know that they are as weary of your antics as I am."
She cast a glance in Gwen and koji's direction, both of whom had looked like they had just been told their favorite TV show had been canceled. She turned back to the window and did a double take as she realized that both redheads were missing. "Now where have they gone?" she cried looking around the room. "To fetch tasuki's tessen I presume, no da," answered Chichiri, "although I have a sneaky suspicion that it's not going to be an easy job. No da." Mim nodded, her face breaking into a smile, "he's right, when Tiercil finds somebody to wind up, she sticks to them like glue, Tasuki is not going to find getting his tessen easy at all."
"I second that," bellowed gwen from the corner, "I knew from experience what she's like." Koji sniggered slightly earning a glare from the girl beside him. "What's so funny Mr Smarty pants?" she asked. Koji turned to face her, a smirk spreading a cross his admittedly handsome face, "nothin'," he said simply. Gwen raised an eyebrow but turned away. If she had one thing in common with her redheaded friend it was her short temper and she did not feel like getting into a fight so soon after that scrap with Tiercil.
While Gwen was looking the other way, koji took the opportunity to take in her appearance. She was slim and very, very pretty. Her hair fell down past her shoulders in shiny waves, just a shade or two a lighter blue than chichiri's. She was elegant but had a "don't mess with me!" kind of attitude in the way she slouched against the wall.
Gwen looked sideways towards the man next to her, he had been staring at her for a few minutes and man, did it tick her off. When he noticed that she had seen him, he hastily turned away but not before she saw a huge smirk on his face. "What are you staring at?" she growled, getting more pissed off at the guy by the second. He merely shrugged his shoulders, "nothin'," he answered. Gwen nodded her head sarcastically. "Nothin' Huh? Now why don't I believe you?"
Koji looked sideways at her and smiled, "whether ya believe me or not, it's still true," he replied. Gwen could practically feel the steam rise from her ears, "so the fact that I caught you checking me out not once but twice is beside the point the?" she asked. Koji shrugged his shoulders once more; amusement sparkling in his eyes as her saw her get angrier by the second.
Suddenly her fuse became non-existent, "well, answer then?" she whispered, stepping in front of him, "were you or were you not checking me out?" koji glanced over her shoulder to where Mim and Chichiri were watching them only to suddenly feel gwen drag his collar around so that he faced her once more. "Maybe I was, an' maybe I wasn't. What would ya do bout it?" he answered simply, the mischief in his eyes becoming so visible it made him look like a child. "This," replied Gwen, a smile across her face.
Mim groaned as koji only had time to give Gwen a confused look before she punched him squarely on the nose. Giving him a contrary look, the blue haired girl flounced out of the room, "next time, It'll be a hell of a lot more painful," she shouted, not turning around for a moment.
Outside the palace, under the window
"Where did tha idiot drop it," muttered one very panicky bandit, as he ran from spot to spot in search of his most prized possession. He had looked every where but still it was no where to be seen. At least he had looked everywhere but the lakeside. Tasuki shuddered, magic mountain or not there was no way in hell he was going near that lake. He glared to his left side, where the offending object was located.
Tasuki edged slowly towards the water with an air of one approaching the most dangerous animal on earth. He stopped inches from a high ledge over looking the water. He stood on hi tip toes and peered tentatively over the edge and darted back again. No tessen there, not that he dared look properly anyway. He stood looking at the lake for a while longer, not paying attention to the crackling of leaves and twigs behind until it was too late
"Got ya!" came the triumphant cry, frightening the bandit so much that he lost what balance he had on the edge of the banking and fell into the lake with a resounding splash. Tiercil walked over to the edge and sniggered as she watched Tasuki splash about the water in a panic. "Now what are you doing in there?" she asked innocently, "surely you're not scared of little old me, are you?"
Tasuki wasn't listening; he was too busy fighting against the water current underneath the surface. Tiercil watched him with a perplexed expression all over her face, "what's up with this guy?" she thought, beginning to feel worried as the man seemed to be continually pulled under, "surely he can swim? Can't he?" fear began to take a hold as she realized the answer was no. she watched in horror as the man gave a terrified squawk before finally being dragged underneath the icy water. With out a moment to lose, Tiercil dived into the water, wincing as it bit her skin like an icy sheet. But she ignored it, the only thing she needed to concentrate on was the man now fighting for his life on the lake floor.
