"Here we are." Inuyasha said. Kikyou stepped off of his back, wishing the ride had been a few minutes longer. Neither noticed the two figures in the dark following them.
"Wow." Kikyou stared at the beautiful sight in front of them. The moon seemed duplicated in the stillness of the huge lake to the right. Inuyasha turned to give Kikyou a better view. Everything seemed so small compared to the snow capped mountains. Even though the moon was out, though, there were still pink, red and gold tinted streaks in the now dark blue sky. Inuyasha gingerly took her hand and led her closer to the lake. The following figures also crept closer but again, neither noticed. "It's too bad this peace can't last."
"What? Why not?" Inuyasha questioned.
"Because my re- because Kagome will be jealous. And she ought to be." Kikyou said smugly.
"No way! I bet you couldn't tell me her reaction when we get back." Inuyasha challenged.
"Well, we'll get back and pretend we're sleeping. We'll "wake up" after Kagome comes back and then I'll ask to join your group. She will feel threatened and so she'll say no. Then I'll start to leave except she'll demand that I give her the Shikon shards I have with me. I'll refuse and we'll start to fight until she walks off in a rage." Kikyou explained as though explaining why one plus one equals two.
"Well, if the peace doesn't last, let's make the most of it." He said, pulling her into another hug. She put her head on his shoulder and his hair covered their faces as he kissed her. From the bushes nearby, Sango sighed at the sight.
"Awww, they're so cute!" Sango gushed as she watched the pair kiss. Miroku nodded.
"Yes, they do seem happier than Inuyasha has ever seemed with Kagome." He commented. "I think that Kagome is the supposed obstacle of true love, not Kikyou as we have assumed. I guess we've only ever seen the story from Kagome's side."
"Yeah... Wait, since when have you been so deep?" Sango questioned incredulously.
"Since I knew you liked it." Miroku answered nonchalantly. Sango blushed and gave him a light punch on the arm (yeah, it really is light) and he returned it. they went back to watching Kikyou and Inuyasha.
"Inuyasha!" Kikyou squealed in delight as he picked her right off of her feet and spun her around. His grip on her body was tight and he hugged her close for a moment, which she chose to steal another kiss from Inuyasha.
"I can't believe there was ever a time where we were turned against each other." Inuyasha said as they fell to the ground, panting from the chase that ensued after he set her down and tickled her.
"Neither can I. I'm so sorry, Inuyasha! I guess I never listened to the full story. You were like a fairy tale for me, one that I didn't believe would come true. So when Naraku did that, I was sure you proved me right. I'm glad he didn't." Kikyou explained rushedly.
"The whole point of my quest for the jewel was to kill the guy who killed you. But now we're back to normal, and I don't know if I want to keep going." Inuyasha said. Kikyou gazed off into space for a minute.
"You know... We need to get the jewel shards... So that you can become human..." She thought out loud.
"But then I'll lose all of my powers! I know it sounds selfish, but I need my powers so that I can protect you!" Inuyasha protested.
"There may be a way around losing your powers if you try to turn human. But I have something very different on my mind..." Kikyou said as she leaned over to Inuyasha's ear and whispered something. After she was done, they crept back towards the village to find Miroku and Sango asleep, her makeup a bit messed up (Kagome needed someone to try out the makeup on, but forgot that it was all waterproof! But how DID Kagome manage to get Sango to agree in the first place? The world may never know.).
"Sango!" Kikyou whispered. Sango woke up.
"yeah..." She replied sleepily. Kikyou held up a packet of makeup remover napkins that Kagome had accidentally left behind. Sango grabbed a sheet and wiped every last bit off as Kikyou crawled into her bed.
Morning
"Good morning, Kagome, Sango, Miroku." Kikyou greeted the group outside as Inuyasha jumped out of his tree. "And good morning to you, Inuyasha. Has my sister not woken up yet?"
"No" was the general answer from the group. That's when Kikyou heard the really, really, loud snoring from inside the next house.
"Oh. Well... I was wondering... if it is all right with you all, may I please join your group?" Kikyou asked. Sango and Miroku and Inuyasha agreed right away.
"No! Absolutely not!" Kagome yelled. Kikyou shrugged.
"Well, if she refuses so, then I must leave." Kikyou said, sighing.
"Wait! Give us your shards!" Kagome demanded. Kikyou, who was near the tree at the edge of the village, turned around.
"And why should I? You refuse to accommodate me, so why should I have anything to do with you?" Kikyou responded angrily.
"Because we deserve them, unlike you." Kagome retorted.
"A brat from the future? I don't think so." Kikyou said, eyes narrowed. Kagome scoffed and stalked off into the forest. "Inuyasha? The bet?
"Wow, you were right!" He exclaimed as he handed her three boxes of ramen. "Is she THAT predictable?"
Kikyou nodded.
The most mortifying thing is that she's
not at all good with a bow and arrow! I really must teach her how to
become better at archery.
