*6:00 AM*
Matt woke up and stared at the ceiling, he sighed. How am I gonna explain this to Tai? I can't be sick once a month Monday and all the other days I miss… If only he'd stop forgetting- Matt snapped out of his train of thought as he remembered where he was, he was at his mom's! Not his dads! Right? No, stop dreaming Matthew Ishida! Idiot!
Matt sat up and bit his lip as he realized it wasn't a dream or was he dreaming still now? He got up and opened the door to the hallway, he heard the voices of TK and Nancy talking, however, he couldn't make it out. Ok brain… This isn't a nice trick if this is a dream, stop! And… I'm talking to myself, whoopdedoo Matthew.
In the hallway/what they were talking about
"You need to talk to someone," Nancy said to her teenage son
"I'm fine and I don't want to" TK protested
"No your not, and I don't care you don't talk to me so you can talk to your guidance counselor"
"Yes I ammmmm, I'd know if I was wouldn't I?"
"You say your fine but actions speak louder than words, I'll call your school," Nancy said turning to the phone
"No mom please don't" The blond pleaded
"If you let me help you stop" TK glared at her, then sighed
"Fineeee," he said although he probably wouldn't
"OK then bring me what you use" there was a small pause "Don't give me that look" he sighed
"Fineeee" TK fakely gave in and made his way to his room, he walked over to his bed, looked under it and grabbed a small box. TK opened it to reveal some pieces of glass. I don't use these anymore, there if I don't have anything so… TK took the least sharpest piece out to use as the 'yeah I'm done now have my tool" thing. TK shut the box and put it back in its hiding place and walked out of his room. He walked over to his mom and handed her the glass "here"
"Where the heck did you get the glass?" Nancy asked so she could stop him from getting more.
"Eh- I was walking and there it was.." TK told her, it was the truth too, Nancy glared at him "if you're worried about an infection I washed it first!" he reassured her.
"Because I really needed to know you were worried about an infection but not about going too deep…" TK gave a nervous laugh
"Yeah… Very important information…Heh… Nancy sighed
"Sure TK, I'll see you tonight, and if anything happens tell someone"
"Yeah yeah…"
*Later At School*
Matt made his way down the street looking off into the distance. TK started down the ground. This is the most awkward walk to school in my life… TK thought to himself. The two boys walked silently side by side until the school came into the distance. This is going to be weird… Matt thought to himself. The middle school and high were together, if they ran into each other in the halls, it wouldn't be like before when Matt didn't even know that was TK, and TK didn't even know that was Matt.
The two boys split apart without saying something, TK made his way to his locker in dread and Matt left to find Tai. Matt walked to the back of the highschool to find Tai and Mimi sitting on a bench by a tree. Matt made his way over to his friends ignoring the fact that he wasn't there yesterday. Normally the 4- or 3 now… Would sit by the tree but it February winter there was a small frost, and nobody wants to sit in front.
"Hey…" Matt said calmly and the two looked up.
"There's the man of the hour, where were you yesterday?" Mimi asked wearing a black puffy jacket and jeans under them. Matt bit his lip, he never told them about his dad, the only one who knew was- Matt shook his head don't think about it right now. "And if you say you were sick again that's taking the phrase 'Monday sickness' to a whole new level"
"I took 'Monday madness' to the max that's for sure…" Matt said calmly
"Geez, what happened?" Tai asked concerned Matt shook his head
"I don't wanna talk about it…" Matt sighed "hey what time is it?" he asked
"Thinking about heading down?" Tai asked and Matt nodded "It's 7:21, you've got about half an hour"
"I can manage," Matt said calmly
"Well I'll see you when you get back" Tai replied to Matt
"Bye Matt" Mimi interjected
"Bye guys, see you soon" Matt turned to leave and walked away from the bench. He crossed the street and walked about a block away. He made his way inside a hospital. Matt glanced at the clock 7:32 why the hospital is so close to a school was beyond sighed as he made his way to the elevator and got to floor 3. When he got there he made his way to room 318, like he had been for the past 5 months.
Matt pulled up a chair and sat next to the hospital bed. Sora's accident happened in August, she was in a coma for 5 months after. She was on the road to recovery but there's still a chance that she could just crash. Matt knew even if she did wake up, he'd never forgive himself for what happened…
*Flashback*
Date: August 31st 2001
Matt sat tensely on the couch of his father's apartment, waiting for his dad to open the door and lock him away. Matt kept fidgeting, he was anxious. He practically jumped 3 feet in the air and landed on his feet when he heard a knock at the door. Matt waited for his dad to open the door but there was just another knock. Did he forget his keys?
Matt sighed and walked over to the door and was shocked to see someone else. "S-S-Sora?" he stammered "w-what are you doing here," Matt asked anxiously if his dad seen her with him he'd freak. Therefore, Matt kept his hand on the door handle, just wanting to shut it and wait to be locked up.
"Hey… I just wanted to check on you, you've been so distant lately and Tai, Mimi, and I are starting to get worried, I mean you've always been secretive but I mean you never acted like this your just so distant and your missing school and-and I just wanted to make sure your ok because like I said your so distant an-" Matt cut off his rambling friend desperately trying to get her to leave, lately his dad's been more abusive than ever, he's been drinking more, Matt didn't know why all he knew is he's been stressed out at work because of his boss.
"Look Sora, I appreciate your concern, really, but please, just, go," Matt said painfully looking up from the floor to the sky, shown over the raiming, the apartment wasn't blocked off, but had a railing that let the sky come in.
"Not until you tell me what's wrong," Sora said sternly
"NOTHING!" Matt said, a little too quickly, and panicked "Er- um- Look Sora I really am fine but please you have to go"
"Your shaking…" Sora stated concerned
"Just go…" Matt said terrified, last time his dad caught him having friends or talking to anyone he was eight, and he was about 99.9% sure that knife was stained red for the rest of eternity, along with his belt, his dad just didn't approve of him talking to anyone so he didn't embarrass the Ishida family.
"Matt..?"
"GO!" at this point, Matt could even tell he was having a panic attack. "Please…?"
"Ma-"
"I see you forgot what I taught you, its only been 6 years, you know better Matthew" Matt felt fear consume him as he heard his father's voice from down the hallway
"D-Dad, no- I- erm-" Matt panicked to figure something out to say while his father walked closer to him, Matt took a small step back "Were partners for a science project that's all… heh… right, Sora?" Matt asked making eye contact with her, really hoping she got the message not to say the truth.
"Um- Yeah" Sora answered, giving Matt a curious look, wondering what was wrong with her friend.
"Really?" Hiroaki asked about an arm's length away from Matt, he backed further away while his dad just got closer, with every slip second a painful chill went down Matt's back, his insides turning with every step.
"Y-yes…" he jumped as he realized he backed into a wall.
"Matthew are you lying to me?" the brunette sneered
"N-N-No" Adrenalin flew over his veins, but he couldn't manage to break free the absolute horror that had completely paralyzed him, and the more he thought about running away, or simply moving a bit, the more he felt discouraged and utterly terrified of what his father could do.
He didn't remember being that scared in his life. And that was just the beginning. That idea only made it worse. If that was even possible.
"Your stuttering says otherwise" Hiroaki's words added a tremendous amount of horror to Matt, he instantly closed his eyes as he saw his father's hand leave his side and as expected made contact with his face. "Are you going to try to lie to me right here? Was that enough? I went easy on you 6 years ago, so do I need to review that lesson again?"
"No- No- No- I didn't lie were just partners for a project" all Matt got from that sentence was another slap.
"I don't think you learned the last time!" by now he had his arm across Matt's neck pinning him to the wall.
"No- I-I-I did! I promise!" Matt was shaking and his heart could have pounded out of his chest at any given moment.
"With all due respect, that's not whats going on" Hiroaki turned to see Sora, clearly scared trying to act calm.
"Oh so your just friends?" he asked, trying to trick her Sora opened her mouth but looked at Matt who shook his head and mouthed 'were not friends' over and over, Sora couldn't tell what he was saying but his body language clearly said to say no.
"No, were partners for a project, that's all"
"Is it now?" Matt's dad moved his arm from Matt's neck and took a few steps towards Sora
"Y-Yes?" Sora said starting to panic, wheres security when you need it?
"Dad l-lets talk about this i-inside ok?" he instantly whipped around and punched Matt in the face, the impact forcing him to the ground
"YOU NEVER TELL ME WHAT TO DO!" He roared
"I-It was just a suggestion" Matt stammered
"SURE IT WAS!" he yelled, completely knowing Sora was there how drunk is he?! Matt questioned
"No, really that's all it was," Sora said, a little too demanding she noticed, but she was urgent to calm him down
"I DON'T RECALL ASKING YOU FOR AN OPINION!" Hiroaki yelled and pushed Sora.
"Dad..!" Matt cried out weakly, still in his panic attack. Sora tried to steady herself but tripped over her own feet, and the next thing you knew, she was gone. Sora fell over the railing."SORA!" Matt yelled Hiroaki's eyes widened.
"Bitch" he murmured and turned to Matt and picked him up by the collar of his shirt, and threw him into the apartment Matt cried out in pain as his head hit the floor hard "THIS IS YOUR FAULT! THIS IS WHY YOU DON'T TALK TO PEOPLE!" he roared Matt looked at him pained he had sat up and let anger consume him as he
"If you hadn't pushed her!" he yelled back and instantly regretted it
"What!?" Hiroaki snarled
"N-Nothing, I-I didn't mean it I swear!" Hiroaki kicked Matt back down to the ground
"You'll pay for that after!" He threatened and he walked over to a phone and called an ambulance, at least he did some sort of an act as a decent human.
*End Flashback*
Matt sighed 5 months, 5 freaking months of Sora being unconscious because she was trying to protect him. If she didn't make it, he'd never forgive himself.
"Hey…" he said weakly "It's been so long, you need to wake up… Everyones constantly worried, there still living there lives but still… I-I just really miss you…" Matt sighed "your the only one who knows- or, knew what happened, and I say knew because it's over, I think at least…" Matt started "My mom won custody, except it feels like a dream… I dunno… Things happen" he half expected her to sit up and say 'Hallelujah' but she's not going to.
Matt sighed again and looked at the clock 7:43. "I gotta head back to school now before Tai kills me for being so late" Matt joked as he stood up "but like I said… I miss you, you shouldn't be here when all you did was try and protect me…" Matt squinted his eyes tightly and walked out of the room.
*7:30*
TK made his way down the hallway staring at the floor making his way to his locker. He stared intently at his locker lock and put in the combo. He couldn't help but be glad it was winter and the school uniform had long sleeves.
TK opened his locker only to have it be slammed shut by the devil. "There's the most selfish piece of crap to walk planet earth" Aiden mocked. Aiden had red shaggy hair and pale white skin. Along with a deep green eye color. TK sighed and re-did his combo until someone brutally pushed him from behind causing him to hit his head on the locker.
"God no wonder your dad left without any problems, she got away from you," Trent said, he had darker skin that matched his hair and eyes. TK put a hand to his nose as it felt warm. Great, it's bleeding.
"So how's Matt, probably thinks its a lot better, wait till he learns he's got you as a brother" Aiden mocked as he pushed TK into the lockers again and walked away laughing. TK moved his hand from his nose to reveal quite a bit of blood. He sighed and made his way to the bathroom grabbed some toilet paper and whipped the little bit of blood away from his nose and threw it away.
TK walked over to the sink and started to wash his hands to get some of the blood off. He dried off his hands and turned to leave just to see Trent and Aiden standing there, great… "Hey there" Aiden mocked, TK rolled his eyes and went to leave and Trent grabbed his wrist to keep him from leaving, he winced because of the impact on his cuts. "Just where do you think you're going?" Trent sneered "Aiden?" he asked clearly knowing the plan.
"Gladly," Aiden said calmly and opened the stall door
"Please!" TK called and both boys just smirked as they pushed TK into the stall and his head into the toilet and flushed it, over the cold water TK could hear them laughing. They pulled him up by his hair and pushed him right back down and he hit his forehead on the bottom. Trent pulled him out and threw him against the wall of the stall by his hair.
"Bye, you worthless piece of crap!" Aiden spat and spit on TK. Both boys left the bathroom and TK curled up into a small little ball leaning against the wall, their voices echoing in his head. Selfish worthless piece of crap, waste of space, waste of oxygen. The year and a half of emotional and physical abuse had left TK feeling worthless, and unneeded, that's what eventually lead to his cutting. After about 2 months he stopped crying, he didn't have a right to cry, people had it worse than him, like Matt and other people in his type situation.
TK sighed and ran his hand through his hair, it wasn't to wet so it was ok? TK stood up and left the bathroom head down as always and made his way back to his locker to get his things, which he did.
"Hi" TK jumped hearing his friends voice from behind him.
"Oh, hey Kari," TK said looking down hugging his books to his chest, he wasn't really in the mood to talk.
"You sound soo enthusiastic" Kari jokes
"Well, gee Kari are you that surprised?" Davis said as he dragged himself over Kari's shoulders
"Not really and can you not," Kari asked annoyed, TK continued to stare intently at the floor, Kari moved her head so she wasn't looking at Davis and looked at him "are you sure your ok?" she asked concerned
"Huh?" TK looked up "Yeah fine" TK looked away again
"Okay…?" Kari replied not buying it
"Anywho let's get to class!" Davis declared walking by the blond looked behind him not turning still hugging his books to his chest
"Right…" he said shyly. The three friends walked to class together, TK still couldn't get over how they were friends, Kari being the taken girl most boys swoon over, even though she had a boyfriend. Davis being the popular athlete and TK being the shy refined kid nobody paid attention to (Unless they're doing a project, throwing spitballs, teasing him, or just harassing him in general.)
*A Couple Classes Later*
"Have I ever mentioned how much I hate geometry?" Kari asked Davis while picking up her stuff
"I know right why do I need to know how big a square is to play soccer?"
"Spheres?" Kari asked and Davis replied with something inaudible while walking out of class, TK picked up the rest of his stuff (some of which some certain people knocked off his desk) and walked out. Aiden bumped into him from behind making him drop all of his stuff and walked away. TK sighed and bent down to pick up his stuff, while some people kicked it further away. TK squinted nobody likes you, that's why your alone TK shook his head stupid voices… that are to true…
TK got the rest of his stuff and walked over to the stairs, by now almost everyone was gone from the hallways, it was lunch after all. TK put his stuff away and went outside and sat on a bench alone behind the school, usually it's like his 'hiding spot' nobody really goes back there.
He never really ate lunch, whenever he had one it never turned out well for him, so he just told his mom he bought now, of course, she'd give him money, he'd secretly put it back in her purse, she never noticed. "So this is where you disappear to" Trent spat in front of him TK tensed up, time for a new place, each one works for about a day to a month, usually a week, this one worked for two.
Aiden pulled TK off the bench and pinned him to the wall by his wrist, and TK's worst nightmare came to life when his sleeve for his uniform slipped down, he looked away and both boys glared at him for a second then hit him in the face. "Why don't you just go cut yourself some more and run around trying to get attention!" Aiden yelled pushing TK to the ground kicking him yelling more hurtful things. "Why don't you just get hit by a truck, nobody would care!" "The world and everyone in it hates you!" "You were born by mistake!" "I wish you were dead!" "Go kill yourself"
and other things like that
"You gonna cry?" Trent taunted "You baby! Poor me, people are brutally honest with me! Well, news flash NOBODY CARES!"
"I'd kill you just to get you off this planet!" Aiden yelled kicking him harder, causing TK to hit the back of his head on the wall, he felt dizzy and couldn't tell what they were yelling anymore, it was like he was underwater. After a while, the 5-minute warning bell for anyone outside to come inside rang and Trent and Aiden left.
TK sat up bringing his knees to his chest, his arms around his aching stomach, they'd kick him anywhere but that area seemed to be his favorite, probably because it's the most vulnerable. TK tried to calm down and bring his breathing back to normal, instead of sharp and panicky.
The bell rang signaling to switch classes, TK painfully stood up and entered the middle school through the back door that was open during lunch, it wasn't that safe but hey, it was convenient for him. TK made it to his locker and got his things and made his way to class this days gonna be as long as any other one… he thought to himself.
*2:00*
Matt walked out of school with Tai, he still hadn't told Tai what happened, he sighed.
"Hey, you still never told us what happened yesterday," Mimi said next to Tai
"It's a long story…" Matt admitted
"That's ok we can walk you home and you can tell us" Tai offered and Matt shook his head "Matt come on, your apartments right on the way to mine!" he pointed out and Matt shook his head again.
"I switched apartments…"
"Wow, such a long story" Mimi joked "you got worked up over that?"
"Well no…"
"Are you switching schools!?" Mimi gasped
"No"
"Oh thank god' Mimi said relieved
"Hey watch it miss" Tai joked glaring at her
"What?" Tai gave her a look "Jesus I don't like Matt in that way, Tai!" Mimi protested
"You'd better not" Tai joked
"Do I look like the cheating type?"
"No" Matt rolled his eyes
"You guys are like an old married couple" he joked
"I'll take that as a compliment to out thriving relationship," Tai said sassy and Matt shook his head exasperated "you never finished your story" Matt sighed
"I live with my mom now" Matt finished and Mimi and Tai gasped
"What why? I thought you and your dad got along!" Mimi asked concerned Matt tensed up and looked away
"Matt?" Tai asked and both were shocked when Matt started crying "What's wrong?!" Tai asked running up to his friend placing a hand on his shoulder trying to comfort him.
"I've been living a lie!" Matt cried out
"Matt, what happened?" Mimi asked now standing next to Tai
"My-My" Matt couldn't finish the sentence trying to calm down, he had never actually said what happened to him, ever.
"Try and calm down" Tai reassured him Matt took a deep breath and tried to calm down a little, after a minute or two he stopped crying but was still a little panicky. "Here let's go sit down," Tai said motioning to a bench and they walked over and sat down "do you wanna tell us what happened, you don't have to if you don't want to" Matt shook his head
"You have a-a right to know…" he said shaky
"Are you sure?" Mimi asked "Matt if your not ready then you don't have to" Matt shook his head "ok…" Matt sighed steadying his breathing a little
"My dad was-is an alcoholic…" Mimi and Tai looked at him sympathetically "which lead to him being abusive…" Matt said starting to shake again
"Matt…" Tai said calmly his hand still on his shoulder
"Why didn't you tell us?" Mimi asked sadly
"I was scared…" Matt said as he broke out into tears, Tai pulled him into a hug
"Its ok, your ok now. Tai said calmly when a sad thought hit him, he needed Sora now more than ever…
*6:00*
TK sat on his bed in a little ball, he had to be more careful now that his mom thought he couldn't cut anymore, he had to be extra careful, dang it. TK picked up his phone and instantly regretted it, seeing all the text notifications "your crazy! A psycho! A mistake, your worthless, get hit by a truck nobody would care, you belong in an insane asylum" and so on. TK shut his phone off and sighed, he was shocked when he heard a knock at the door.
"Can I come in?" Nancy asked and he nodded and she took a seat next to him "how are you?" Scared, tired, lost, numb, empty, alone, worthless, stressed-
"Fine" TK replied.
"Alright, I'll call you out for dinner in 20 minutes," she said as she got up, TK nodded when she left he got up and walked over to his backpack pulled out his pencil sharpener and did what he had to do.
*6:10*
Nancy walked over to the ringing phone and picked it up "Hello?" she asked
"Hi is this ?"
"Yes, who is this?"
"Its Tai"
"Oh hi Tai"
"I-I'm not stalking you I got your number from Kari!" Tai protested
"I didn't think you were, anyway what do you need?"
"Can I talk to Matt for a minute, I'll be quick I swear"
"Yeah let me get him"
"Alright" Nancy walked to Matt's room with the phone
"Matt Tai needs you' she said softly
"Huh? Um, ok..?" Matt said a little awkwardly back wearing his black t-shirt and jeans.
"I'll take you to get some more clothes tomorrow" she whispered in his ear before turning to leave
"No- It's fine you don't nee-" Nancy gave him that 'I made up my mind so don't try and change it' mother look, Matt sighed and Nancy left the room "Hello?"
"Hi Matt" Tai said calmly
"What's wrong?" Matt asked getting a little scared
"N-Nothing I'm calling for a good reason you pessimist" he joked
"It's my personality…" Matt said voice fading Tai bit his lip, he should have guessed Matt still had to adapt.
"Sorry- I didn't mean to offend you-" Tai rambled
"Huh? No- What- You didn't- Why did you call again?" great…
"Oh! Right! Well, a good thing and a bad thing… I would have told you in person but you need to know now" Tai said calmly
"Ok, now you're really scaring me…"
"...No, it's a good thing I said…"
"Well- I-I- d-d J-Just ugh, just say it…" Matt stuttered
"Well… one I'm psychic, two-"
"Why is that a good thing?"
"Maaatt it was a joke, now what I wanted to say is that Sora's condition" Matt held his breath, it's a good thing, right? "Has improved and there positive she'll wake up within a- well here's the bad news"
"What?" Matt asked now getting anxious
"She'll wake up for sure… But it could be a day to years… they don't know…" Matt bit his lip and stayed quiet "Matt? You ok?" he asked
"Y-yeah… It's just hard to think it'll be any longer than it has been…" especially when it was your father…
"I know… But at least we know she'll live…"
"Yeah… How's Kari taking it?"
"So-So she's happy and sad, Sora's like her older sister, along with Mimi but that's beside the point"
"And Mimi?"
"The same way…"
"It's sad.."
"Yeah…"
"Thanks for letting me know Tai"
"Like I said you needed to know"
"No problem"
"Bye Tai"
"Bye Matt"

Also, if your name is one of the villains in this story (Hiroaki, Trent, Aiden) it's not me being judgmental for your name it's just me naming characters. Someone in a story I wrote a while ago (I took it down) said "My names - why so judgmental?" I'm not :( It's just their names, I know two Emma's ones a jerk and one is the sweetest person in the freaking universe. So please don't say I'm judgmental.
P.S: Tai and Mimi are dating
