-exactly 250 words-
He'd known, the day of the Sorting. It could only go downhill from there. Their friendship was a ship that had been doomed from the start. His love? Please, like the spirited flower could ever give the pretentious snake a second glance. Simply put, and literally too, he was the Boy Next Door. Friend-zoned from the start, a childhood fling that would deteriorate as time passed and personalities grew.
He should have known when he watched her from the fence, that the ship he was jumping on was dangerous. It was fragilely built, and heading for climates he was unaccustomed to. But the green eyes, the smile that made him forget his sadness, they pulled him on, and he forgot about the reasons why not and he sailed the most beautiful seas.
He should have known that their ship wouldn't be her only adventure. She was free to live a life on the seas, but for him, this was his one and only, for as long as it lasted.
He'd known, when Potter's ship came sailing by, that their fragile ship was falling apart. He had time to make it back, but instead he clung on for dear life, and when the ship collapsed, he found himself drowning, surrounded by the pieces of wood only held together by her love. His love, unlike hers, would never die. But fate is cruel and his love was what formed the ocean. Drowning in his own love, the love he'd spent on her.
