Just in Time
The red and blue lights of the police have since bothered him when the police came to tell his family that her mother got caught into a terrible accident. He grew out of it in time and with the help of friends and family, his paranoia but after hearing that his fiancee went missing, everything from that frightful night crawled into his very skin. Those lights were suddenly blinding him, the same way it did when he was just a boy. The thought of him losing someone so close made his heart sank.
"Sir! Sir!" it appeared to be some medical technician of some sort. His vision was trying to focus on the name embroidered on her uniform. It must be from the shock. His reading ability suddenly turned dull.
"Wha-what?" He must have sounded dumb as he saw her slightly shake her head. She scribbled some words on her notepad then tucked her pen on her ear.
"I guess we'll have to go back on you when you're better." she said. He can only watch her retreating form. A thousand thoughts came rushing in his head. His fist clenched and unclenched. He was grinding his teeth, he badly wanted to hit the wall but surpressed the urge. He looked at his wall clock and wondered if it would stop if he had stared at it.
They only reported her missing. Who was it? Some Matsushima? Matsuoka? Matsunoto? Something Matsu woman who she was last seen with. He's bad at names.
"We're doing the best we can, Mr. Kurosaki." Assured the Abarai detective. He looked at him, acknowledging that he had heard him. The detective resumed talking on his phone. Everyone was busy yet he's here doing nothing as if he was frozen in an ice column.
What day was it? Ah, it's supposed to be their wedding day tomorrow. Nope, it's past twelve so it would have been hours from now. Where could she be at a time like this? He knew the police is doing their job but he wanted to do some independent searching of his own. Perhaps he could find her someplace they have been before. If only he had been with her the whole day today, she would love that but then she would feel miserable if he had to leave his job in the process. She would always say that she can handle it and that he doesn't have to bother in a few trivial things such as fetching a gown. He should have insisted and had someone else handle the class for him then he'd have had the time to be with her and protect her. Wait. When did he entertain the thought that she got herself in danger. DARN IT! If only... if only...
"ABARAI SIR!" a boy with droopy eyes and shabby hair ran. He was one lousy boy; he alsmost tripped at the coffee table. Ichigo did not bother to turn his way. He was too absorbed in his own thinking. He did not even bother picking up his mobile phone which by now must have vibrated a couple of times through his pocket.
"What ya got me, Hana?" The staff who was named Hanataro gave him the phone.
"It's a call fom the headquarters."
He saw the red haired detective approach him and took the phone. Renji nodded several times and dropped the call then faced Ichigo.
"They've found her." he said.
"Wha-what?" He had learned to not raise his expection. Often, it lead him to hurt terribly. Like how he wished his mom would just walk through the door unharmed. But she never came.
It felt so unreal. The detective flipped his wrist to check the time. Ichigo did his own time check and looked at his wall clock. It read 1:07 AM
"Where is she now?" he asked a bit tepid. He doen't want to abandon his defenses just yet.
The detective, although his apparance leaned more to the outlaw side, was in fact a nice guy. He offered him a ride which he politely declined.
"I'll get my keys." Implying that he's driving his own car.
When he peeked through the blinds, he saw him mount a chevy. In the distance, a trail of blue and red disappeared on the corner. He has never driven so frantic before. Not that there was anything that could make Kurosaki Ichigo frantic nowadays. His life was in a stood still until the cop gave him a wakening call.
He arrived at the station where he was lead to the front desk.
"You must be Mr. Kurosaki. This way please." He was lead into one of those interrogation rooms. She found her sitting with a cup of choco. She did not notice him so he stood by the door frame, studying her. It was a relief that the detective led him to the station and not some hospital. For god, if she's hurt in anyway, he swears he's gonna kill the bastard.
She must have felt the raging aura eminating from Ichigo. She faced the door and was surprised to find a certain carrot top.
"Kurosaki-!" she forgot calling him by his first name. Perhaps it was something to do with the experience. The officer was right, she's not in her right mind yet.
"Ichigo." she said weakly. Ichigo kneeled over to rest his head on her lap. His arms encircled her waist in a loving embrance.
"Hey..." He hated it when he's like this. But she liked it when he'd be childish for awhile. She gently entangled her fingers in his hair, slightly ruffling his orange mane.
"Hey."
While she did so, she saw a flash of raven hair in her mind.
Where is he now? She wondered.
What was wrong with her? She's with her fiance and her mind was at somewhere else- or someone else. Why was she thinking of him right now? It has got to be the trauma. That can only be the rational explanation for this. Perhaps it had something to do with what he said. Then again why bother? Everything's back to normal now. She's now with Ichigo, where she belongs. And she's happy. Isn't she?
Again why was she bothered? It has been two years of dating and knowing one another. There's not much she doesn't know about him. She has known a lot about him even before they started dating but that's beyond the point. She's not throwing away everything just because of some stranger speaking something so...
"..Do you love him?" Her head repeated his words.
"Of course!" the rational part of her brain screamed.
"Orihime." Ichigo whispered, calling her attention and interrupting her trail of thought. Her name in his lips sounded so strange. Perhaps, the first name basis still hasn't sunk into her. She'll just have to get used to it.
"Yes, my love?" she answered.
"Let's get married."
"I would love to."
Her words sounded empty in her ear. Isn't this what she has always wanted? Her childhood sweetheart, on his knees over her. She should be happy, ecstatic even yet, why is her heart betraying her? The more she tried to silence her whims, the louder her heart revolted against her chest. She hoped Ichigo would not notice the violent drumming of her heart.
It was quite unfair. She was troubled enough to begin with and suddenly someone crashlands into her life to suddenly leave like abducting her was no big deal. And now this stranger, this lonesome... strange intruiging young man who had the most striking set of emerald eyes...Why had she met him? And despite his absence, why had he not left her thoughts. It was maddening.
"But love,"
but
That word always has a weight on it that no matter how much a good the statement was, it can only end with the extreme opposite.
Ichigo looked her in the eye, his arms slumped over ever so delicately until he held both of her hands.
"Can we not get married?" she finished. Ichigo's world felt like crumbling. He's even more miserable than when she was missing awhile ago.
"What do you mean?" His grip on her hand tightened in concern.
"What I mean is not today." she corrected or hope she think will erase up the hurt she sees in his amber orbs. His brows furrowed. He's been up all night and it made him a bit slow.
"I'm just tired that's all." she said. She tenderly shook his hand away and placed both of her hands on each side of his face. She loved doing that and she knew it relaxes him.
"You also need much rest." she said.
"We can stay in bed all day." He suggested.
"Oh no not like-"
"I'm not going to do anything, promise." he said, sounding reassuring.
"I know."
I know
