I know it says it's complete but then I saw this prompt and I was like "This fits so well"
Credit goes to otpprompts: What if character A was singing 'You are my sunshine' as character B slowly dies in their arms. And character B is singing with character A to comfort them as life slowly drains from their eyes.
"Hey, can you sing for me?"
"Sing what?"
"Just…anything."
"You are my sunshine," He sings, his voice warm and smooth, staring with adoration at the dying girl in his arms.
"My only sunshine…" Rin sings back quietly, her weak voice disappearing into the still air. She smiles up at him, her hand gripping his tightly.
"You make me happy," Len holds her close to his chest as she shivers, gently kissing the crown of her head. Clouds blow over the sun, enveloping the light in a dull gray.
"When the skies are gray…" she whispers in a breathy voice. Her grip on his hand loosens, and he holds her limp hand tighter.
"You do not know dear," he sings, his voice becoming quieter.
"How much I love you…" Her breaths become heavier as she struggles to continue singing. Tears fill her eyes, but she tries to maintain her smile.
"Please don't take," Len's voice cracks momentarily, and a single tears brushes her cheeks. He brushes hair from her eyes, and for a second, indigo eyes meet cerulean.
"My sunshine…" Rin lets out her last breath, the light in her eyes fading away. She doesn't hear the last word to the song.
"Away." The sun peeks out from behind the clouds, bathing them in warm, golden, light, almost as if to try to replace the light that clouds had blotted out. But it didn't.
"It's going to be okay."
"It's not okay, I'm not going to survive. I'm sorry…"
"No, it's going to be okay. At least you'll be free."
Aren't second chapters to one-shots usually the happy ending.
