Warm, that was the first thought that I had when I woke up. I kept my eyes closed and tried to remember what happened yesterday and how I got to bed wrapped up in what felt like a dozen blankets. It wasn't until I realized the blankets, my hair and clothes smelled odd that I opened my eyes and sat up.
I noticed the dried mud stains covering everything and figured they were the cause of the smell. Soon everything made sense when memories came rushing back. The forest, rain, and Edward flooded my mind.
My hands cradled my head while a sob tore through my throat. I tried to stop the sound by clamping my lips together but it only muffled my cries to whimpers. My knees were now against my chest as I tried to make myself as small as possible. Reality had finally sunk in, and I realized that they were truly gone and that my life would never be same without them.
This time it was a scream that left my mouth.
"Bella!"
I knew that voice.
"What's wrong?"
Charlie. If anything, I had to keep my sanity in front of Charlie.
His hands were on my shoulders and shaking me. I finally quieted down as soon as my voice had gone hoarse and looked at him. His panicked face melted into a look of relief when he saw that nothing was wrong.
It was then that my eyes met a pair of amused emerald eyes. Leaning in the doorway of my room was a boy that looked more like a man. Dark hair curled around his ears, and golden skin covered wiry muscle. His clothes looked wrinkled and were covered in mud stains.
I was so surprised that I voiced a croaky squeak. Why was he here?
As soon as Charlie turned towards the door, the stranger's face changed from arrogantly amused to concern.
"Is everything alright?" he asked worriedly.
Everything was definitely not alright.
