Chapter 2
A new day.
I woke to my alarm clock and stretched out my arm to turn it off- "AAH!". I quickly opened my eyes to see a tiny marine slammed down on my alarm clock.
"The hell man? Are you okay? Are you hurt?" I asked in worry.
"I'm fine." He stood, shaking off the slamming of my hand on him.
"What the heck are you doing here?" He was about to answer, however I saw two terminator squads and two predator tanks in my room. "You were watching me in case I decided to attack you?!"
"No lord Conner, not you. The xenos cannot be trusted, Sargent Leonidas told us to keep watch over you, should the vile beings decide to end your life while you slumber."
"Oh…uh thanks. Sorry I freaked out on you." The marine simply shrugged.
"A suspicious mind is a healthy mind." …wait what?
I exited my bedroom knowing that my brother is completely asleep. I went over to check on his room and saw a whole station of tanks, soldiers and marines. "Are you also keeping guard?"
"Yes lord Conner, we had insisted that we kept guard on the inside but he simply refused. He stated that it would be best if we stayed out the door. We also took a few assault marines on the roof to keep watch over the windows in the event that the xenos tried to enter through them. Also he said not to look through the windows." The green armored marine informed me. He then asked. "May I ask? What may possess him to give us such orders?"
"Well, he's a teenager with raging hormones, you can guess. And also he sleeps naked. Found out the bad way."
"Oh…" came the marine's surprised response.
"And he undresses even while sleeping, so I bet he's naked right now."
"Ah. Okay." The marine answered, wanting to change the subject.
"By the way, did you have trouble setting up your bases last night?"
"There were minimal problems with the task. It became much more facilitated when Lord Justin provided us with those multicolored plas-steel blocks." Plas-steel? Oh he must mean the Lego blocks.
"Well if you need anything, just ask. We can try to help."
"Thank you lord Conner."
I woke up and looked around the room. "Good, they listened." Time to get off and get dressed.
Done that I knocked on the door a couple of times "Guys, I'm moving out now, clear the door range. You have 20 seconds before I open."
…19…20. I opened and was greeted by a small contingent of space marines and guardsmen stationed by the door. "Morning." I greeted.
"Morning Lord Justin. Your brother has already awakened and is by the kitchen. The tau have not committed any acts while you slumbered." The raven guard informed me.
"And have you against them?" I asked. The marine looked to one of the imperial sergeants to his right.
"No Lord Justin. However there was a small incident where a guardsman went to their base and nearly started shooting. We found out later he was inebriated." Oh boy.
"Did anyone die?"
"No" A small sigh of relief.
"Good. Thank you for the report."
I was preparing an omelet when Justin came in, I greeted him morning and continued. Thinking to myself on what will we do with the minis running around the house. It is thankful that they had some of their initial rations with them, but they said that it won't last for more than a week, even on conservative use.
My train of thought became interrupted when a tau devilfish carrier hovered into the kitchen. "Gue'la Justin. We have completed the repairs to the so called television."
"Wait what?!" I asked in surprise. "Did you actually manage to fix the TV? Just overnight?"
Justin looked at me with an incredulous look. "Seriously? They are a futuristic civilization; of course they could fix the TV."
"I meant so quickly. Damn, only a single night, AND ON THEIR SCALE!"
"To be honest Gue'la Conner, it was rather easy to repair it as most of the technology was easily recovered by the copious components. The tech priests were fast at making the damaged components reusable and we made those that could not be reused. It also helped that we had hover drones."
"See." Justin poked in.
I went over and witnessed their handiwork. All I could do was give a slight whistle "Wow, and it looks new…and are those tinny candles around the TV?"
I looked back at my brother wanting an explanation but a little white robed cyborg guy beside the television screen spoke before him. "It is to appease the Machine Spirits. We also thought that to amend for our transgressions we had to give it an adequate checking." Came his synthetized mechanical voice.
"Oh… okay." Machine Spirits? I need to check more about these guys. I will have to ask Justin to give me a detailed explanation of all this madness.
"I'm gonna check on them. Okay." Justin informed me.
"Don't take too long the breakfast is almost done." I told him as he left. Then the sudden sound of the toaster made every guardsman on the stand shit themselves. Hehe.
"I still do not trust him. That boy knows too much." The dark green chaplain commented to the command council. They were having a meeting inside their new base of operations. "He had knowledge of nearly everything of us. It troubles me deeply."
"I understand your concern brother chaplain but I do not detect any ill intention on him at all." Librarian Mithas spoke, "Furthermore he has shown willingness to help us at almost every instance."
"I agree with the librarian. He is also protecting us from the 'outside world', even giving us instructions on how to act should any titans come into his domain." Leonidas spoke. "As our guardian he needs to be protected as well. Allowing xenos into his domain is ill advised."
"Regardless his knowledge is deep, far too deep. He does not just know about the other myriads of xenos across our galaxy but he has full knowledge about the powers of chaos as well." The chaplain returned. "If he were to fall to their powers…"
"I doubt so." The librarian smiled. "I think he knows of the threats of chaos even more than we ourselves do, albeit he sees it from a different not-first handed perspective."
The chaplain was about to ask that, until the subject in question came into the room.
"Maybe we can continue our discussion later on."
"Agreed."
I went to the spare bedroom to the imperial base and see their progress. I slipped in taking in the sight of their new base. It's amazing what these guys can do in such a short time. We gave them the Lego toys I had and some other stuff. Overnight the guard built a large building complex that was about three square feet in span and a foot tall. Some pieces went higher too.
The space marine section was to the other side of the room and theirs was greatly distinct, it was not as wide, but it was taller, maybe by half a foot.
"Greetings Governor Justin, I welcome you into the Legoius combined center of operations." General Ariel spoke up a bit overly enthusiastic from his transport vehicle. Obviously he is slightly nervous speaking to me, who wouldn't be when you are speaking with a skyscraper. For some reason the guard calls me Governor. I like it.
"Morning to you General Ariel. Seems you have made progress." I greeted back sitting on the floor in the empty center between both bases.
"Indeed. We thank you for the plas-steel blocks. Their design was most excellent for the building of the base of operations."
"Need anything at all?"
"Well, yes actually. As far as we can tell we do not have enough of them to encompass all forces. We are still missing some barracks and we have nearly used most of our share of the blocks. The marines have been helpful in giving us some pieces but…"
"It is insufficient Lord Justin." A marine by the bed spoke. I recognized him as Noel Grantz the Omegamarine captain. "Although our base is mostly complete we don't have enough to allow the guard to complete theirs. Also it would seem that we made an error in the assumption of our rations. When we opened the containers we discovered that most of them were burned to ash for some reason. I believe it was due to the entry into your universe."
The general started again, continuing for the captain, "We have given the marines a portion of our rations which most did not seem damaged, thank the Emperor. However, this will cut ours greatly. I believe we will run out of food in about 3 days." Shit this was bad.
"Well, tomorrow we will hold a meeting regarding food supply. I advise you both to come. Draw up conclusions and see how we will proceed."
"Thank you Governor."
"Well I'll see you guys later then. I'm a go check on the Tau now." I was about to leave when something came to the back of my mind. "Uh, guys…weren't there like twelve tech priests who were with you… where are they?"
"Uhm, I think they said they established a link with the Omnisiah in the room furthest to ours." The general informed me.
"The room furthest-THE COMPUTER!"
"Adept, run get the candles and oils to appease the machine spirits!" One panicked adept screamed at another at the sight of absolute horror before them. The computer had an error window and had a loud roaring sound booming at the adepts. The window changed every so often as a new page opened up and or closed. The poor adepts were running amok, some had crawled up on the fetal position and cried. It was going to be their end. This machine would destroy them for their transgressions!
It was then that Justin opened the door.
"What the hell happened!?"
"JUSTIN SAVE US!" A poor adept screamed. Sighing Justin went forward and did something. And then all was at peace.
"Lord Justin has saved us from the wrath of the Machine Spirits! We owe him our lives!" One piped up, joyfully screaming.
"You idiots." Justin remarked smiling. Somehow the adepts had wound up opening a rock music file, multiple sights and clicked on a spam. The poor things… They must have thought they would have died, especially when the mouse has problems with the left button and it keeps clicking even when not being pressed. "The computer has problems, she is not angry. You should all calm down, she has no spirit. She is as simple as an overly primitive data pad." This made some of them move in embarrassment. "I still have to clean its internal files for you so get out, please."
They went along and left the room. Sighing in relief, thank goodness they didn't find my porn file.
"HAHAHA so that's why you ran so fast out the room hey?"
"Hey Loid, please don't tell anyone."
"Sure thing boss."
I continued on my detour to the Tau base the Na'a Leg'o Station, which was built on the living corridor far from the imperial camp. I also had given them lego pieces to build their base. As the design of the structures were not circular they had to make sharp edged buildings, though it still had their simplistic alien feel. Seating down I saw a familiar crisis battle suit hover down the window ledge. I recognized the man or alien inside.
"Morning commander Nightfire." I greeted him as he exited the suit.
"Greetings Justin." He greeted back. Of the two races in our house the tau are by far the friendliest. I looked on and saw the others had gotten their hands on my old phone. A Samsung Galaxy S 3 given to me on my birthday and saw they were playing angry birds. Each level passed with perfect stars. Damn now I'm feeling jealous.
"Did you encounter any problems while setting up last night?"
"-sigh- We do not want to add to the strain that we are putting on your life as it is …but yes. We lack the sufficient blocks to complete our base. So far we are missing a vehicle bay." It seems that everyone had some form of trouble with the blocks, either too few or not adequate for the job.
"Any problems with food?"
"That is also another problem. You see, when we went to open up our rations most of our food supply was burnt to ash, yet there was no indicators of the damage from outside the container." He reported.
"It seems the marines had the same problem as you. In other words your supply is cut greatly and you won't last more than a few days without aid."
"Precisely."
"Commander I will be holding a meeting regarding food supply tomorrow. I advise you to attend to draw up conclusions on how we will proceed from that point on."
"All right. Thank you Justin."
I bid the commander farewell and went on my way to the kitchen.
I was preparing the dishes out when Justin came back to the kitchen. He took a seat and I gave him his half of the omelet. "So, everything in order?"
"No." Oh great, they blew up something again. Yes again last time it was an action figure some relative of ours left here of a dragon. Little buggers thought it was a giant demon or something and blasted it in half a second. Not even the stubs of the legs remained. "It's that their food cache was mostly ruined." Oh even greater, now the financial punch I'm going to receive is going to be earlier. Great, just great.
I sat by him, "I'll buy them a sack of cheap rice or something. They'll have to get used to it." Justin seemed convinced, but something kept nagging him so I asked.
"I think you should buy some plant seeds too."
"Plant seeds?"
"Nutritional distribution, rice alone does not make up for someone's nutritional needs. Besides they have a portion of their serfs and logistics units, they could aid in the development of a farm of sorts and they could become more independent from us." He had a point.
"Okay, good idea. Anything else Governor Justin?" That made him blush, haha.
"Well…I don't know what else… I don't know, maybe we should address the problems as they arrive?" He was smiling now. Almost on the verge of laughter.
"What's so funny?"
"Nothing!" Came the rather fast response.
"Okaaaay…?" No sooner I looked down to my plate I found that half my omelet was gone. I looked around and caught sight of a few kroot running off with smaller slices of my breakfast. "You assess get back here!" I snapped my head back to Justin who was now laughing hysterically. "You little ass."
He just shrugged and took out his tongue, "It was funny."
"HAHAHA, I love your brother! He's funny!" came the deranged voice of the mad imperial psyker.
"Shut up Loid."
"Okay."
