Barktail looked nervously at her kit. Shadekit still had to open his eyes. Violetkit had opened her eyes that morning. She walked over to the medicine cat den.
"Waterbreeze, shouldn't he have opened his eyes by now?" She asked.
"He will open them when he is ready, Barktail," Waterbreeze replied.
Barktail sighed. "I know. I just want to see his eyes. I want to know if he looks like his father, Snakestar." She headed back to the nursery to watch her kits.
In the nursery, Barktail greeted Lionclaw, who was keeping an eye on her 2-moon old kit, Poisenkit.
"Hi, Lionclaw!" She greeted her.
"Hi, Barktail." Lionclaw replied.
Violetkit jumped around Barktail's feet excitedly.
"Can I go outside, Barktail? Can I? Can I?"
Barktail smiled at her kits energy.
"Not until your brother opens his eyes." She said.
Violetkit walked over to Shadekit. She prodded him in his side.
"Open your eyes! Don't you want to see the camp?" Violetkit asked.
Shadekit did want to see the camp. He tried to open his eyes, but he couldn't. Eventually, he found the right muscles, and forced his eyes open. Unfortunately, they were facing the sun. Shadekit blinked and shook his head to adjust to the brightness.
Violetkit stared at him.
"You opened your eyes!" She said. "I have to tell Barktail!"
Violetkit ran to Barktail.
"Barktail! Barktail! Shadekit opened his eyes!"
Barktail looked at her kit.
"You have!" She said. "Now you two, go meet Poisenkit."
Shadekit walked over to the other kit.
"Hi!" He said.
"Who are you looking at, shrimp?" Poisenkit said.
"N-never mind." Shadekit said, nervously backing away. He decided to go play with someone nicer, like Violetkit.
