Lucie woke up, confused. She didn't know where she was. And then she remembered. "Gavroche?" she asked.
"Here," the boy came walking forward, smiling. "Let's go find your parents."
"Thank you," Lucie said. Gavroche and she left the elephant. They walked through the streets of Paris.
"Gavroche!" a band of men walked over to him. "Who's this girl?"
"Her name's Lucie," Gavroche said, "I'm taking her back to her family."
"What's your surname?" A big man asked. Lucie, scared, stepped behind Gavroche.
"None of your business!" Gavroche snapped. "Let's go."
Lucie and he continued walking back.
"Let's head along the Champs-Élysées," Gavroche said.
"Should we go to the police?" Lucie asked.
Gavroche shook his head, "Don't worry, I'll find your family."
They walked along the street, occasionally glancing around.
"Oh I hope I find them soon!" Lucie said. "I don't like being lost."
"Don't worry, you're with me!" Gavroche said, smiling.
Lucie blushed and the two of them held hands so they wouldn't be separated.
"There she is!" Lucie broke away from Gavroche and ran forward into the crowd.
"Maman! Maman!" Lucie cried out.
"Lucie!" Charles and his wife ran over to her. They picked her up and hugged her.
Gavroche walked over to them, "I found her, and returned her to you."
"Thank you," Charles said. "Would you like anything?"
"Some money would be nice," Gavroche remarked.
Charles laughed and handed Gavroche a few coins.
"Thank you Monsieur!" Gavroche said.
"Thank you as well," Charles said.
"Bye Gavroche!" Lucie called out.
"Bye Lucie! Visit again soon!" Gavroche said.
"Maybe when I'm older," Lucie said with a smile.
Gavroche left Lucie with her parents and continued back to the elephant, smiling.
Years later Gavroche is sitting on the street when a beautiful young lady with golden curls falling down her back and bright blue eyes walked up to him.
"Are you Gavroche?" she asked.
Gavroche nodded.
"Do you remember me? I'm Lucie."
"Lucie!" The two of them embraced, reunited at last.
