A/N: Ta-daa! This was a look at what their relationship was really, and why they weren't together presently. Yet. Much love to LyricsArePoetry, Eryaforsthye, and Catelly for reviewing.
Disclaimer: The Master would not have died if I owned Doctor Who. Nor would it be so successful.
The Master awoke in a bed. He sat up, surveying his surroundings. They seemed familiar, but from where?
He thought for a minute. Then it hit him. This was his room in the TARDIS. And it was exactly the same. The rooms within the TARDIS were like that. Timeless.
He struggled to remember how he got there. The last thing he remembered was… their conversation. The Doctor had called him Koschei. The last time Theta called him that…
The Master tried to shake away the memory. It was so vivid… Besides, things had changed. He had said so himself. He wanted to remember those wonderful times, but he couldn't afford to. Not now. Not ever.
Koschei sat in his room. He swallowed the lump in his throat. He was indecisive. Half of him was screaming to leave, while he still could.
The other half couldn't bear to leave without saying good bye to Theta.
Koschei was torn away from his argument with himself when the door abruptly opened. In walked Theta, a worried expression on his face.
He spotted Koschei in the corner and strutted over.
"Koschei, I got your message, what's wro-" Theta was cut off as Koschei pulled him into a gentle kiss. Theta grabbed Koschei's hands.
"Koschei?" he said quietly. Koschei sighed sadly.
"I have to leave, Theta."
"For how long?" His answer was barely more than a whisper.
"Forever." Theta stopped asking questions, from the pained look on Koschei's face. Theta pulled him into a deep kiss.
"I'll leave someday. And when I do I'll find you."
"I won't forget you. That's a promise," Koschei said. He took one last look at Theta before walking out of the room.
"I'll hold you to that," Theta whispered.
A/N: Reviews are a gift from God. Happy Easter by the way!
