I was so disappointed. Who wouldn't be? Having to go out and pick a random Pokémon did not impress a brand new trainer. But my mom told me to always thing positive. "Remember Cody, Public nudity is sometimes the option."….. Wait wrong memory. "Remember Cody, Shit happens. So you have to go out in the world knowing it's not perfect. You have to be prepared for anything. Make the things that go wrong something useful to you. Make the thin-"
"Ow!" I snapped out of my daydream. "You okay there Cody?" Professor Sycamore exclaimed. I looked at the professor and then to what was in front of me. A Tree? I looked back to the professor who was 15 feet to my left. How did I manage to walk all the way over here and then into a tree? I touched my face and it stung. "I must have scratched myself up pretty well." I said
The professor turned and started walking towards me. "Here, take this." He pulled out a tiny first aid kit. "There is some Band-Aids in here. We should patch you up pretty quickly. We don't want to attract the wrong kind of Pokémon here." I shuddered at the thought of running from a bloodthirsty Pokémon. I took the box and cleaned myself up.
We started walking towards route 4. Sycamores lab is in Lumiose City. I took a train from Vaniville to the city to get to the professor's lab quicker. Lumiose is the center of the Kalos region and branches out into five routes almost forming a star. Route 4 takes you southeast, route 5 takes you southwest, route 13 goes west, 14 north, and 16 east.
"Do you know what kinds of Pokémon are on this road Cody?"
"Not really, why?" I asked. I hadn't given a single thought about what kind of Pokémon I'd actually find in the Kalos region. By the look Sycamore was giving, I'm guessing that's the wrong answer.
"Trainer tip #1: Always know what you are up against! There is nothing worse then going out into the woods by yourself and getting hurt!"
"I hadn't thought about it that way before. I'm sorry professor." I was a little ashamed. Starting the day with mistakes was not how I planned today.
"Its fine. At least you take my advice. Some other trainers blow me off and say that whatever I say is useless or unimportant. Most of them aren't alive to tell the story."
"Is the Pokémon world that dangerous?"
The professor laughed. "Im kidding! Im kidding!" he said sounding amused. "Usually that's not the case. 98% of Pokémon are friendly and have good intentions. It's just that tiny percentage of Pokémon that rebel and fight back cause a problem. That's why safety always comes first."
At that moment I became a tiny bit afraid. Was this journey going to be that scary? No! I'll have my Pokémon by my side. This wont be a problem. I wont be alone anymore. "So when will we find a Pokémon? We have been walking down this path for such a long time! I haven't seen anything besides a few bug Pokémon here and there"
"Haha. We are coming up upon a clearing soon and you will see."
We walked a little further down the dirt path and sure enough we came to a clearing."Woahhhhhhh!" I stared in awe. We stood before a large clearing full of grass and flowers. The smell of sandwiches and flowers petals wafted up my nose. Trainers spent the lazy afternoon battling each other or chatting while eating lunch. Trained and wild Pokémon played together like they've been friends for all eternity. One trainer in particular caught my eye. A boy around my age rested underneath a tree, his Pokémon beside him. His Zircon blue eyes are watching something in the distance, closely. I tried to follow his eyes to see what he was looking at. But I couldn't keep my eyes off of him. His eyes were magnificent. I could clearly see the color and I was pretty far away from him. His blonde locks framed his face nicely. His style of dressing was another story. He wore a baby blue jacket with a white scarf, jeans, and bright orange and blue sneakers. The random neon on the shoes seemed out of place and bothered my OCD mind. I looked back at his eyes and saw he was no longer looking in the distance like before. And he wasn't under the tree anymore either. He was looking and walking towards me.
"Are you looking for wild Pokémon too professor? The boy asked.
"Yea I am. This girl is getting her first Pokémon today. Would you care to help?"
"Sure. As long as I can get something in return." His smirk made the butterflies in my stomach go crazy. I could smell his cologne and let me tell you something right now! It smelled amazing. Just the perfect mixture of rose and honey suckle. But it had that manly sense to it too. Maybe a new line of Old Spice just came out? The professor looked at me and then back at the boy.
Then he smiled. "Oh yea! Cody this is Pudge. He is a trainer I gave Pokémon to the other day. By the way how is your uh umm…" "Budew?" Pudge asked. "Yes that's right."
"Wait wait wait wait wait! 2 questions!" I yelled. "1 why is your name Pudge?" "Its my nickname. My best friend called me Pudge because of how skinny I am. Its so contradictive that it is funny, right?" I examined him closely. He was skinny and I admired him for it. I tried to imagine what his stomach looked like without the sweatshirt on. I giggled a little bit.
"Okay then. 2 Were they out of Pokémon for you too?"
"Yea and it was really annoying. You'd think they knew how to tell people that they don't have any Pokémon at the moment."
"Oh my god! I know right? It was very annoying." The professor had an annoyed look on his face.
"Well if we are done chit-chatting here, id like to get Cody's Pokémon before I have grandkids."
"Sorry Professor" Pudge and I said at the same time.
I looked around the field for wild Pokémon. But not just ANY Pokémon, the one that caught my eye and said pick me! And I saw it. The pink fur ball that didn't know any better. Its name was Skitty.
