Also for the kiss meme. I've recently been thinking that I wanted to see a scene where Isaac and Miria are so much in their own little world that they just... embrace, as if unaware of their surroundings. Oddly, constructing such a scene also gave me an in for FiroxEnnis, which might be my favorite ship for the series.
"Miria, the twenty thousand leagues doesn't refer to depth!"
"It doesn't? Then what does it refer to?"
"Err, I think… that's right! It refers to all the fish they met! Instead of schools, these fish were organized into leagues!"
"Like baseball, right? Isaac, you're brilliant!"
That was wrong. Ennis was almost positive that that was wrong. But she didn't have the heart to tell them—not when Miria fell into Isaac's arms and he caught her and twirled her and pulled her into a kiss, as naturally as breathing. That was love, Ennis told herself. Watching them, she felt—what was this? Fondness, happiness, the barest hint of what might have been… envy.
But you weren't supposed to watch people kissing, so she averted her eyes. As she did, her gaze met Firo's. He was looking at her steadily, a hint of longing in his face. He started and blushed when he realized she was looking back. "S-sorry," he muttered, flustered.
In answer, she entwined her arm around his and leaned on his shoulder. And she, too, whispered, "Sorry."
"What for?" he asked.
"I still don't think I have it yet. I'm… getting there; I'm starting to understand, but…"
Firo squeezed her arm lightly; then, hesitantly, he shifted to face her and touched his lips to her forehead. She felt a funny flutter in her stomach and blushed with what was certainly, without a single moment's doubt, pleasure.
"Take as long as you need," Firo smiled. "Don't rush it. We've got forever, after all."
