Chapter 2: Arrival
In the hospital of Forks, Washington, Dr. Carlisle Cullen's head snapped up suddenly from his clipboard as a familiar-though strangely foreign-scent assaulted his senses. He hurried in the direction of the main doors just as a young woman with flaming red hair stumbled in through them, looking pale as a ghost. Blood was dripping down her abdomen, and had already begun to travel down her leg over and into her boot, making a half boot-printed trail behind her. Someone screamed, and Carlisle shouted and ran towards the wounded woman.
Light and faint voices reached at Lauralithia, trying to pull her from her slumber. Why were they trying to wake her? Didn't they know she needed to sleep? She was so tired. They must have given up, because to her relief, silence reigned and everything went dark.
Something was making a strange chirping sound in a steady rhythm, and next to her something else was dripping. For a moment she thought it was her stone alarm bird going off, but that couldn't be right. She'd escaped-hadn't she? Opening her eyes, she looked up at a white ceiling from a strange kind of bed, and her brow furrowed. Groggily she rubbed at her eyes and frowned. She felt odd; like her head was fuzzy. Her blue eyes weren't fairing much better; and it took a couple rounds of rubbing them and muttering a mild clarification spell to remedy it. Even so, the spell would wear off and she'd have to collect ingredients to make her own healing solution. Sitting up slowly, she felt a slight twinge like a stomach ache in her abdomen and lay back down with a groan.
Putting her hand to her stomach, Lauralithia looked in surprise at the strange, unflattering blue dress she was wearing. Pushing the blanket down, she examined it with concern. Where were her own clothes? The strange chirping increased and she looked over at a strange contraption with lines going across it like a range of mountains. A new mountain popped up each time there was a chirp, and right now there were a lot of mountains. The sound of shuffling feet brought her attention to the door where a man in blue garb and a thin white coat entered. There was a strange thing around his neck like a two headed dragon snake with a silver pendant on the end, and he carried a thin board of wood with white parchment attached to it.
The man approached her, smiling, and stopped beside the strange dripping thing next to the strange chirping thing. He was tall with dark blond hair, and skin that was so pale it was nearly translucent. He had golden eyes and sharp features that were startlingly beautiful. He looked to be in his early to mid thirties, but his eyes held the wisdom and kindness of someone much older. "Hello. How are we feeling today?" Carlisle asked with a smile.
The red head just looked at him blankly as he fiddled with the drip. "I don't wish to alarm you-but because of the seriousness of your injury, we had to put you in a medically induced coma. You've been unconscious for about a week and a half, now." He said, studying her closely. "You'll be experiencing some blurriness right at first with your eyes-getting used to the light again. Are there any dark or light spots in your vision?" He tugged a small grey tube-like object from his front coat pocket and clicked the end. A light shone down from it, and she stared at him in amazement while he checked her eyes briefly. "They look good, but should you experience anything odd, let your regular doctor know." He straightened and the light vanished with a click of his thumb before he put it back in his pocket. She stared at the pocket in fascination, still wondering at the odd tube with light inside it. The man gestured at her abdomen, "It's healing very nicely; you should be able to leave here tomorrow if you feel up to it."
He watched her carefully from his clipboard as she gazed around the room, looking at the things around her curiously. She acted as though she'd never seen a hospital before. The chirping decreased it's rhythm and she looked at it again, causing it to speed up and then return to normal. "Oh how rude, I didn't even introduce myself." She looked back up at him and then down at his hand which he held out to her. "I'm Doctor Cullen."
She hesitated, looking up at him as though she were asking permission. A little amused at such an idea, Carlisle nodded and smiled reassuringly at her. Her gaze turned back down to his hand. Pursing her lips, she spoke one word reluctantly, raising a shoulder in a shrug, "Orathè..." His eyebrows rose in surprise at the odd language, and before he could ask her about it, she reached forward and with a firm grip clasped his hand. Carlisle gasped as what felt like a thin tickle of something like static electricity shot up his arm. He could have sworn he saw a brief, faint blue glow around her hand as well; and when he jerked away in shock, Lauralithia immediately released him, looking regretful, her face wrinkling in apology.
Carlisle stood staring at her, eyes wide with shock. Lauralithia smiled apologetically up at him and said softly, "I'm sorry about that; I must've collected some static electricity from lying here for so long." She laughed lightly, then said, "Hello Carlisle, my name's Laura."
Just before this all occurred, a young and beautiful pale woman with short black hair and gold eyes, looked up suddenly with glazed eyes at the room's occupants before her. From off to her right, a young man who looked to be about eighteen, with wild blond hair and eyes that were also gold, sat at a grand piano. His head jerked over to stare quizzically-and apprehensively-at her. She had had a vision, and through his own ability to hear and see other's thoughts, he viewed it at the same time she did.
A read headed woman stumbled through Forks' hospital doors, an odd aura about her, and blood oozing down her side from a large wound. Carlisle who had been nearby, caught her before she hit the ground, and the man called loudly for assistance. The image seemed to change then, showing the same woman sitting with the Cullen's and enjoying a sunny day in the forest, a wide smile gracing her lips, and he was stunned to see that despite his family's sparkling skin, she seemed entirely unconcerned.
The man's stomach stirred with very faint-and very confusing-butterflies. He looked frowningly to the woman across from him. "Carlisle!" She whispered, meeting his gaze, and the boy scowled and sped down the stairs and out the front door so fast, that he was rendered invisible. Thoroughly concerned, an older woman with almond brown hair looked to the young woman in alarm. "Alice! What's wrong? Is Carlisle alright?"
A/N: Here's Chapter two. Is it any better from last time? Let me know what you guys think! :) Also sorry it's so short.
*Oh, btw, "Orathè" is a word I made up that means "Alright/Okay". Almost sounds like "Alrighty", haha! Anyway; so when she looks at him as though asking for permission, and he nods, she's like "Okay...", all hesitant because she doesn't know how he'll react when what she does occurs.
