Chapter II
You seem to think I left everything behind without a second thought. But you should have learnt by now I don't do without thinking. This, all of this, was carefully planned and executed to the very last detail.
Were you left out of my plan? Of course not, it would be absurd to leave out something so crucial to the success of it. Just because I didn't tell you everything doesn't mean I didn't include you; I needed you to believe I was dead. Don't you see? If you believed, who wouldn't? And I knew I could leave you behind because I knew you could handle it; you have survived a war, why couldn't you survive this?
And I didn't go as far as you thought now did I? I had to hide from the public eye, obviously. But that wasn't too hard; every disguise might be a self-portrait, but when everyone thinks they won't find you, they'll stop looking. They stop observing, trusting their own eyes and senses, their own experiences, just because of what has been told them by someone else. Media is brilliant that way, if you know how to use it. You told me the press would turn on me, and they did; they never expected it to be to my advantage. Neither did you.
But tell me, how did I not predict this outcome? I thought you could've handled this. Such strong reaction on your part was quite illogical, seeing as you've been through this before, losing a friend; you were an army doctor… Yes, that's it. How could I have been so blind when the answer lay right before my eyes? Army doctor. Two different approaches to death, how could I have forgotten you were taught both? It is so obvious now; you may miss the war, but you're not in the battlefield anymore, are you, doctor Watson?
Oh I should've taught of that, should've…
