Jack rolled over and smacked into the wall. He groaned, and looked at his alarm clock. It was already 8:00, and he was late for class. He quickly shot up, and tried to shake himself of his sleepy stupor. He pulled some clothes on, and ran into the kitchen to grab an apple, before grabbing his bag and sketchpad and sprinting out the door. As he was running to his class, he ran straight into a pole.
"Crap."
He said, completely unamused. He grabbed his things, and started to limp to class, nursing his left ankle, which he had twisted when he collided with the pole. Just then, his phone rang. He quickly slid the phone open to unlock it, and held it to his ear.
"Hey, Ace." Jack said, inwardly ecstatic that Katherine had called him.
"Hey, Jack. What's going on? Aren't you supposed to be in class? I was just going to call and leave a message!" Katherine said, with a hint of worry in her voice.
"Oh, I overslept and then ran into a pole on the way to class." Jack deadpanned.
"Are you okay?" Katherine exclaimed, her voice jumping an octave.
"Yeah, I'm alright. I twisted my ankle, but I'm otherwise unscathed."
On the other line, Jack heard a little giggle, and his heart soared to new heights.
"Something funny, Ace?" Jack teased, laughing himself.
"Nope. Nothing. Nada." Katherine choked out, trying with everything she had to hold back her giggles.
"Alright, Ace. I've gotta go. We still on for tonight?" Jack sighed, really wishing that he didn't have to go to class. He could sit and talk to Katherine all day. He really loved her voice.
"Absolutely! See you at 7?" Katherine said, excited with the premise of seeing Jack again.
"Yup! Have a good day, sweetheart." Jack smiled, hoping that the day would pass quickly and it would be 7 before he even blinked.
"I'll try. You too. See ya later, hot stuff." Katherine said, giggling even as she said it.
Jack hung up the phone, and instantly felt a little colder. Katherine always made him feel warm and loved. He pushed open the door to the lecture hall, hoping that he could stay awake for his Art History lesson.
