Love

xXx

When Hikaru and Kaoru were asked by anyone to tell how they felt about each other they'd say they loved one another dearly, and the subject wasn't further pursued. The twins knew they loved each other, but they had always had trouble defining how, exactly.

There're different kinds of love, and they found themselves on the boundary between each and every type, never knowing which one they'd eventually settle on.

When Hikaru would kiss him, letting his lips linger near his brother's for just long enough for him to whisper those three words sweetly to him, Kaoru just knew that had to be the 'romantic' love he'd always heard about in fairytales, because that was his happily ever after. But when his brother held him tenderly at night, brushing his fingers through his hair and entangling their hands together under the sheets, it was a differently love entirely.

And so, years later, when Kaoru looked back on those days with a serene smile on his face – his brother's hand around his own, head leaning on Hikaru's sculpted shoulder, as though made to be there, and there only – he thought he should have seen it, even that long ago, that they'd never loved each other in just one way.

They loved one another in every way possible.
