I finally got this chapter done guys!
It took me about three days to get the whole thing written up and about an hour to edit. I have a direction I am wanting to go with for this story and I believe it will be quite entertaining for you guys.
Since this fic will be taking place in a modern high school scenario, there will be actual music and I will be mentioning artist names and songs. I will also have different animes that will be discussed when Jaune and Yang actually become friends and start hanging out.
Jaune decided to attend one of the unofficial practice sessions being held today. This practice was not required or any for that matter until the next week, but Adam said everyone attended it so Jaune thought he would go. He needed to get a jumpstart on the team workouts before he would start doing two-a-days. Couldn't fall out of shape just as the season began. It was basically summer practice too, so Jaune wasn't complaining.
The one thing Jaune didn't enjoy about Vale was the humidity. It was nearly forty degrees outside, and it felt like it was fifty degrees. Jaune was probably not used to the high temperatures because he lived in Northern Sanus, a relatively cool environment that didn't get above thirty degrees. In summary, it sucked complete ass.
Jaune skipped out on a shirt today in favour of just wearing his running shorts. Everyone on his last team did pretty much the same thing during summer workouts and scrimmages. He was in pretty damn good shape too, so there was nothing to be self-conscious about.
"Aye, Jaune, you showed up," Adam called out from behind him. He was also shirtless with a pair of red shorts matching his hair. The taller faunus gave Jaune a fist bump and leaned against another car next to Jaune's. "Everyone should be here soon."
"So does the whole team really show up to these or is it just the starters," Jaune asked with a bit of hesitation. Usually, starters are zealots when it comes to practice and almost never miss the opportunity to impress coaches.
"Everyone," Adam insisted. "Even the second-string. There are only like sixteen players on the men's team, so it's pretty easy to know who doesn't show up. Blake and Pyrrha also bring the women's team as well, so we all practice together even though they don't start until the spring." Adam snorted, "Hell, even the cheerleaders workout with us."
Cheerleaders, huh. This was probably his chance to find some cute girl to talk to and get her number. For some reason, every girl at this school was incredibly hot, like metal slide in the middle of July hot! Even the worst looking of them blew every single childhood crush he had out of the water! Jaune was afraid he was out of his league at the academy. Not that he was bad with girls, of course. He could hold a conversation with anybody and even flirt with them if need be.
However, due to Jaune's busy schedule, he just decided to "forgo" the dating scene in his first two years of high school. Jaune moved at least twice in the last two years too, so there was no point in trying to attempt a long-distance relationship either. Now that he was staying in Vale permanently, Jaune could begin fishing for a girlfriend.
"Hello~," a voice called out with a musical undertone to it. Jaune whipped around and saw Pyrrha standing there. She was wearing a red and black sports bra and tight black shorts showing off her amazing abs and her voluptuous figure. She turned really quickly to wave at someone off to the side, and Jaune got a fantastic view of her ass. It was a perfectly sculpted marvel that looked as though it was carved out of marble.
What... Jaune's a teenage male, of course, he would look. It's not like women don't stare too. Don't judge him for it!
When she turned around Jaune's face immediately looked upwards and focused on her eyes. "So Pyrrha, you're the co-captain of the women's team?" Jaune was asking in a vain attempt at getting to know her and to make a move-hopefully-eventually if she was single, of course. It may have been cheesy, but it was an excellent way to break the ice.
"Yes, both my boyfriend and I are co-captains," she replied in a polite tone. Well, there went a potential girl he could try dating. She didn't sound displeased at him asking. Pyrrha either didn't care about Jaune asking, and she knew what he wanted, or she just thought he was curious.
Blake arrived with another dozen footballers, and Pyrrha went to go deal with the crowd. Jaune turned around to see Adam giving him this look. The look you get when you're trying to hold in a laugh or when somebody is doing something embarrassing nearby, and you're trying to shield yourself from the contact shame. Adam facepalmed as Jaune said, What?"
"You're really obvious when it comes to staring at girls," Adam began. "And really, asking if she was the co-captain after I told you yesterday!" Jaune was feeling attacked. He couldn't help himself sometimes and ended up bungling what should have been a simple conversation.
"Hey, I had to break the ice somehow," Jaune whispered to Adam trying not to attract attention. "And I'm not always this awkward! I just don't have that much experience with girls!"
"Don't worry dude, with the way some of the girls are looking at you right now. You might be getting some more experience than you bargained for!" Adam subtly gestured over to some of the women's footballers. Three of the girls quickly darted their heads in the other direction when Jaune looked over, and a thick red dusting covered their cheeks.
"Oi, Adam," Ivon, if Jaune remembered correctly called out to the captain. "Both of the football teams are here."
"Don't forget about the cheerleaders too," A shorter woman with long black hair called out from behind the hulking teenager. Her eyes were a deep amber colour with one of them being covered by her hair. She wore a deep red tank-top with black running shorts. The aura about her felt off the moment Jaune glanced at her.
The girl looked Jaune up and down and strutted over to him. "And who is this! I've never seen you before!" She got really close to Jaune, uncomfortably close. The girl knew this and seemed to derive joy from it.
"Uhh, I'm Jaune. Jaune Arc," he mumbled and rubbed the back of his head. Her expression brightened up even further, and a toothy grin stretched across her lips.
"And I'm Cinder Fall," she replied with a sultry tone. Ok, Jaune was officially creeped out by her now. He just needed to get away from this creepy bitch as quickly as possible.
She traced one of her fingers up his abs and settled the digit on his chest. "I feel that we need to get to know each other sometime." Jaune felt goosebumps form all over his body. A lump in his throat formed and he couldn't even begin to develop a response.
Adam tapped on his wrist telling Cinder they were short on time, and she rolled her eyes and strode back to her group. Making sure to shake her hips as Jaune watched her leave. "Is she always like that," Jaune exhaled and took a second to calm down. He was glad Adam saved his ass from the creepy women.
"If you mean: creepy, sadistic, and a complete psychopath. Then yes," Adam began, shaking his own goosebumps off his body. "Whatever you do, stay away from her. That woman's a black widow. Once you get caught in her web; you're stuck there, and you won't be able to get away." Fuck yeah! Jaune was not about to get involved with her! Everything about her was wrong and the fact she was really hot too, made it even worse! You know that thing about the hottest looking people being the craziest? She fit that description to the 'T." Sure Yang and a few of the other girls were hot and not crazy, but Cinder was just that! Hot and completely fucking insane!
Adam jumped up on top of the car he was leaning on and whistled. The entire crowd turned to him and grew silent. "Ok, ladies and gents! We'll start out with a fifteen-kilometre run, and then the teams will break off and do their own thing. It's really hot out here so take it easy and if you need a break, take one."
...
Jaune threw on his earbuds and pulled out his scroll. If there was one thing he hated, it was running without music. He didn't expect to have a full conversation while on this jog, so music was his best option. It helped keep his pace too since he could run to the beat. If it helped him to conveniently not hear Cinder, also; then he was going to listen to some beats.
Scrolling through his playlists, Jaune skipped over the anime soundtracks he had downloaded and settled on some EDM. The first song on his playlist was Beautiful Now by Zedd. Personally, it was one of his favourites and his favourite among the house genre.
He was into a bunch of different music genres. So long as the music itself sounded good and the lyrics weren't complete trash Jaune would consider adding it to one of his categorised playlists. His sisters and even some of his friends dogged on him for his choices in music, specifically electronic music. EDM has something of a stigma attached to it: raves, drug use, wooks, and many considering it just to be bad music.
Jaune started the jog around the front of the group. He was used to running half-marathons, but most football games typically required him to run an entire 15k in ninety minutes. If Jaune didn't have some random stroke in the middle of the jog, he could probably finish the whole thing in less than an hour, maybe before the fifty-minute mark if he was lucky.
Footballers are basically superhumans anyways. Being able to run nearly fifteen kilometres usually without being subbed and chasing a fast moving ball required any footballer to be nothing less than a superhuman. Gridiron Footballers could be subbed in and out two or three times if necessary because of the large team sizes, but football teams such as Beacon's or most professional teams had somewhere between thirteen to thirty people playing for them.
However, since Jaune plays as a striker, he is responsible for scoring goals and has to be one of the most mobile players in the game. Strikers also spend the most time in full on sprints whereas the midfielders cover the most distance due to them being the link between the offence and defence. If Jaune had a choice on the most challenging position to play, it would have to be the goalkeeper or the midfielder.
Goalkeepers have, mentally, the most challenging job since they could easily be the 'GOAT' or end up choking and letting the other team score a goal. Midfielders as already described have the most physically demanding job. Many midfielders run between five kilometres to around or more than fifteen kilometres in a single game.
All footballers practice as hard as possible no matter their position. Football is possibly the most physically demanding sport, bar a few exceptions. So every player needed to be able to handle it while training for their specific position.
[An hour-ish later]
Jaune was the first to arrive back at Beacon. He clocked in at precisely fifty minutes, and he felt like he was going to cough up his left lung. Jaune also had a strange tingling sensation down by his groin. That probably wasn't anything too serious, right?
Ivon was the second to finish around three minutes later. He nearly collapsed and used a chain link fence to hold himself up. "Shite, mate," he exclaimed in between breaths. "You're a fucking monster!" He took a swig from a blender bottle that sat in the shade.
"I'm a little slow too," Jaune coughed. "I can run a five-minute mile! I should have been here a few minutes earlier." Jaune grabbed his own bottle and downed about half of it. He didn't care if he threw up. The water was just too good to pass up. After getting his fill, he dumped the rest of it on his head.
"Don't worry mate! You sprinted the entire thing! Adam couldn't even keep the lead."
Adam, Blake, and Pyrrha arrived shortly after. Blake looked utterly exhausted; her bangs clung to her face as she held onto Adam for dear life. Pyrrha took a few steps and stretched her arms upwards and popped every joint in her body before laying down in the shade.
"Jaune," Adam gasped for air. "Why don't you play midfield?"
"Ball control, I've always been good at it," Jaune answered as he tried to take another drink from his water bottle only to find it empty. He felt like a dumbass now for dumping that out onto his head.
"Oi, Adam," Ivon smiled. "He good at handling balls!" Adam burst out laughing with Blake eventually losing control of herself and began to giggle. Jaune couldn't help himself but join in and take that 'L.'
"Fuck you," Jaune laughed and gave a light push to Ivon's shoulder. It was funny, and he fell right into it. Rouge got him with the same joke when Jaune began talking about ball drills and other parts of the usual training session during dinner.
"Yeah Ivon, I think that's more Sage and Scarlet's thing," Adam said as he managed to get Blake to let go of him. He stretched his arms upwards and then touched his toes.
"Speaking of balls," Sun spoke up. Jaune had no idea where he came from, but he wasn't about to ask. "Does anybody else have that tingling sensation down there?" Several other guys who showed up and heard that question nodded their heads. Ok, so he was not the only one to have it.
Groin injuries were not uncommon in football. Field hockey players had it worse, with groin pulls making up a little more than ten per cent of the injuries. The tingling sensation was probably something related to having an appendage swinging around down there while your legs are constantly moving. Jaune wasn't a doctor so he couldn't give an actual diagnosis.
Neptune and Weiss were among the last of the forty or so students to show up to practice. The moment they arrived, Weiss bent over and threw up into the grass away from the group. Neptune grabbed her hair as Weiss retched, and Pyrrha and Blake ran over to go check on her. There was a short conversation between the co-captain and the captain before Blake pointed up at the field house.
Pyrrha ran back over to where Adam and Jaune were. Before she could say a word, Jaune spoke up, "Is she okay?" Weiss could have been going through heatstroke or exhaustion. Both were severe conditions, and there were no coaches here or trainers that could begin treatment. If it came down to it, Jaune had the fastest car and could haul ass to the nearest hospital.
The red-head looked back at the girl. "Yeah, she just pushed herself too hard. She'll need a minute and some water." Pyrrha finished and ran up to the field house where Jaune presumed the water was stored.
Adam turned to Jaune. "Weiss has always had problems with her endurance. Neptune's been working with her the entire summer and even during the last season to get her into shape." Damn, that must have been rough. Weiss was probably a sprinter like Jaune, but he could at least run several kilometres without nearly dying.
...
Practice went on for another two hours. Those were possibly the most gruelling two hours of Jaune's life. Several others threw up and had to take breaks, Jaune almost threw up after the suicides. Any workout regimen Jaune had gone through before seemed light-weight in comparison to Beacon's.
Adam called it the "Valish Death March," and he was pretty spot-on with the naming. After a prolonged cardio session, the team would run sprints until the coach deemed fit for the team to stop. Then they would go to ball drills and technical skills.
Finally, Jaune finished with a walk-through scrimmage. Adam walked through plays and how each player should compensate for his teammate's weaknesses and other appropriate strategies. Then they played a short game with the women's team for fun.
The guys lost by one point, sadly.
Blake even led a yoga session after the game was done. Jaune was slightly disappointed none of the girls were wearing yoga pants. But he joined in none the less and chatted with a few of the women's footballers as they did their stretches. Jaune was pretty sure he impressed one of them with his flexibility, or he just made himself look like an alien that could contort itself into all manner of awkward positions.
Jaune stepped out of the shower and threw on his spare clothes. He was wearing a grey hoodie with the crest of Vale printed on the front and a pair of black tech-sweats with black and white basketball shoes. This was his style, not the stuffy uniform that he was crammed into all day long.
"Yo, Jaune," Adam yelled from across the locker room. "Some of us are going to get together and hang out. You in?" Of, course he was in! Jaune had nothing else to do today, and there was no homework being assigned yet that he couldn't do before class.
"Yeah, uuhh, come over to my place," Jaune suggested. His house was large enough to host parties with dozens of people attending so having a few people over wasn't going to be an issue. His mother or sisters might be surprised, but they wouldn't complain about it.
"Gotcha, send me the address, and we'll meet you there!" Adam slid out of fieldhouse through one of the metal doors. Presumably, he was going to 'hang out' with Blake before joining the rest of the guys.
Jaune pulled out his scroll and sent Adam the information. A few guys were hanging out by the field house and talking to their friends or flirting with the female footballers or cheerleaders. Jaune passed through the crowd without anybody bothering him with conversation and got halfway to his car.
He noticed Yang standing by the school. She was wearing her standard uniform and still had her hair tied up. Yang carried some of her books in her left hand, and a case sat on the ground. Jaune might have gone over to talk to her, but she had her scroll out and was talking to somebody.
"Hey, mom," Yang spoke to the person on the other end of the call. "Can you pick me up? I'm done with practice, and there are no buses here." She grew quiet as the other person was responding to her. "What! You're stuck at the base!" She stopped talking as another response came across. "Mom, I-I don't feel comfortable walking home from here! Fine... I'll try to find somebody who can give me a ride!"
Jaune wasn't going to ask outright if she needed a ride. That would have implied he was eavesdropping on her conversation. Although technically, Jaune was not eavesdropping and was in hearing distance of the other blonde. But Jaune didn't want to seem like that guy. You know, the awkward person who dives in and tries to be the knight in shining armour. Sure he did it yesterday because no one else was there or willing to help, but that was different. Jaune wouldn't turn her down if she asked him for a ride either. Yang already knew him and was quick to trust him despite her shy nature, and it wouldn't be right to break that trust. You understand his logic?
She looked up and saw Jaune sitting in his car. He left the door open and was sitting in the front seat with scroll in hand. Jaune heard several clicks from the heel of her shoe as she strode up to him.
"H-Hey, Jaune," she meekly asked. Jaune looked up at her, and she pulled her books up to her chest again. It was adorable whenever she did that.
"Sup', Yang," Jaune replied. He set his scroll in his centre console and turned back to her. He already expected what question would be coming next. Jaune felt a little guilty for listening in on her phone call. It was supposed to be a private conversation after all.
"I-I was wondering if you could please give me a ride," she meekly said. There was no way Jaune could deny a request from a pretty girl, right? Time to be the knight in shining armour.
...
The two blondes were about halfway to Yang's house. She threw that case, and whatever was inside of it in Jaune's trunk and kept the rest of her books in her lap. Jaune tried to start some form of a conversation during the drive, but he wasn't getting much of Yang. So they ended up sitting in silence for most of the trip and listened to music. It ended up being a lot more boring than Jaune had anticipated.
Jaune also did not know this earlier, but Yang lived right down the street from him. While this was not a significant fact at the moment, it would make it easier for the two to hang out if they ever became friends and not the awkwardly forced together pair.
"So, you like The Chainsmokers," Yang asked. The song Closer was playing at the moment, and several other songs by the pair played during the ride. Wait a minute? Yang was actually initiating a conversation with somebody! *Gasp*
Jaune's brain had to catch up again. He was thrown for a loop when Yang actually asked about something that was not a request. "Yeah, The Chainsmokers are pretty high on my list of artists. What about you?"
"I like them, I guess," Yang responded as if she was not even sure about her own likes or dislikes when it came to music. "I like a lot of electronic artists, Zedd and Alesso are my favourites." A fellow Zedd fan, he was starting to like Yang more and more. Alesso, however, was... ok. He has a few good songs that Jaune liked.
"Let me guess, your favourite songs are, Beautiful Now and Sweet Escape," Jaune guessed as he took another corner. Sweet Escape was a fantastic song, and Jaune immediately had it thrown onto his playlist when he first listened to it.
"I love Beautiful Now," Yang gushed, sounding kind of like a fangirl. She immediately realised the way she sounded and grew quiet again. Jaune was afraid he might have lost her.
Jaune felt as though Yang was afraid of expressing herself around other people. That might have been why she was so quiet and kept to herself. Most of his previous friends and even his sisters were loud and boisterous. He may have had a quiet friend here or there, but talking to her was like being around a rabbit. The slightest disturbance could end up scaring her off.
Jaune pulled into his neighbourhood. The street was lined with large houses with steep ridges covering the mostly brick and mortar homes. This area was almost all military families and is where the government of Vale decided to stick every one of the soldiers they had in this suburb. It was kind of comical in some instances when driving through. White picket fences and children running around the streets as if it was something out of a movie where these places were made out to seem picturesque and almost fake in some instances.
It was nice if Jaune was forced to compliment on it. The neighbourhood lacked what Jaune considered 'character.' It felt new. His last house and neighbourhood had tall trees that had grown for almost a hundred years at this point. This new development Jaune was living in had no shade anywhere except around his house. Now that may seem as though it was a minor issue when it was a comparatively lovely place to live; it just bothered Jaune for some reason.
"This is it, right here," Yang spoke up and pointed out her house. Her house was a mixture of dark wood on both the supports and the shingles on the rooftop. It was brick like most of the other homes in the area and sort of looked like a smaller version of Jaune's house. His house was obviously built for an officer who would have a large family and by the look of her house, she was from a smaller household.
"Thanks." Yang got out of the car as they pulled into the empty driveway. Nobody looked to be home yet which was something you would expect with both parents being soldiers. Soldiers frequently had to work late hours that were mandatory. There was no asking your boss if you could leave early. You had to stay and finish your job or until you could be relieved.
"Yang," Jaune began. "If you need a ride, you can text me and ask. You do have my number right?" Yang froze for a second, seeming hesitant to answer. Jaune was afraid that might have been the wrong thing to ask. Coming on too strong was something he was trying to avoid here.
"Uhhh, no." She fished out her scroll, and Jaune handed her his. Yang put her number into Jaune's scroll and quickly gave it back.
...
Well, Jaune did something productive today. He got a pretty girl's phone number even if Yang wasn't looking at dating anybody just yet. It was still good to have her number.
He drove back to his house and pulled into the driveway. Neither of his parents showed up yet, which he expected since they both are office drones and live to work. Adam and Blake were already parked in the street waiting for him along with a few other people in their own cars.
"So has the shining white knight finished escorting his princess to the castle," Adam teased while shutting the door to his car. Jaune's face turned blood red, and he briefly considered just getting back into his vehicle. A good deed never goes unpunished, right?
"Hey, I was only giving her a ride," Jaune explained with the blush still very present on his cheeks. If his sisters had seen a girl in the same car as him, Jaune would never hear the end of it. Hopefully, Adam was a little more forgiving with his teasing. Jaune could only take so much before his fragile male ego became damaged beyond all repair.
"So that kind of ride, huh?" Jaune's face turned a little bit darker if such a thing was possible. Blake covered her mouth as she started laughing and Adam had had the dumbest looking grin on his face. Jaune just accepted this as a part of his life now. Although, Jaune would not have been mad if it turned out that way.
Shortly after Adam spared Jaune from any more teasing, Ivon and Pyrrha arrived in separate cars. The blonde driving a grey and black hatchback which was ironic given how large he is. And Pyrrha drove a black and red sports car that easily was worth somewhere in the six figures. Whatever Pyrrha's parents were doing, it was certainly working. Jaune felt like he had been shown up since his car didn't have anywhere even close to half the value of that car.
"Damn, Jaune," Ivon exclaimed as he caught the first look at his house. "I'm kind of jealous. Your place is much better than mine."
"Yeah, Ivon, where do you live?" Adam turned to the Co-captain. It seems today was about learning where people rested their heads at night.
"The Beacon Dorms," he nonchalantly responded as he grabbed a box out of his car. Since when did Beacon have dorms?! Nobody told Jaune that! If he had known this beforehand, Jaune would have moved to Vale years ago. He was kind of pissed now.
"Since when do they have dorms!" Jaune sounded kind of pissed. Which he was, of course. He could have been playing for one of the best teams in the nation had he known this before. But somebody deigned to tell him that he could have lived at Beacon.
"They put them in last year, mostly internationals like me," Ivon explained. "Strict rules for living there too." Everything except for that last part Jaune liked.
Two more people arrived, and most of the others had already gotten out of their cars. Jaune secretly wondered how was going to keep this rabble in line. So long as they didn't break anything, Jaune was ok with having all of these people running around his house. And if they did smash something, Jaune's mother would have everyone's head on a silver platter.
Alright, you guys want to head inside," Jaune proposed and ran up to the front door of his house. The large wood and steel doors were quickly unlocked, and Jaune ushered in the eight or nine students that had been invited to come hang out. Most of the athletes just hung out in the foyer while Jaune dropped his bag near the stairs.
The beautifully decorated interior of the Arc Manor was very large indeed. The walls, which already had a ding or two due to the several small children that ran around this house; held paintings, awards, and family photos spread all over the home. The hardwood floors having scuffs and dents in them spoke for the age of the building. The home was pristine despite both its age and the mess the Arcs made while moving in. Jaune's mother somehow managed to take the time to set everything up in one and half days which was stunning for a home this size.
Jaune led the group to the dining room trying to make sure nobody wandered off and got lost in the process. The dining hall was a massive thing, the biggest room in the house. Jaune thought it doubled for a ballroom or some sort of gathering area when it was built. The large table in the centre could seat maybe two dozen people at the most and was here when Jaune moved into the house.
Ivon set the box on the table and pulled out several items all wrapped in foil. He tossed what Jaune assumed to be burritos now to each of the teenagers. Jaune took his and opened up the wrapping. The burrito had some weight to it which Jaune was pleased with since he was a big eater.
"When did you guys get these," Jaune asked out of curiosity. He really didn't care for an answer since he was starving. Jaune figured he spent around one thousand three hundred calories during practice. Eating this burrito would replenish most of it, and Jaune was going to be hungry again soon.
"After practice," Pyrrha answered. "They are all the same, too. Chicken, peppers, rice, beans, lettuce, and pico de gallo. We do this when we hang out, so not everybody is hungry." Jaune understood, and it was a pretty good idea. Expensive too, when you added all of it up.
The burritos weren't stuffed with crap such as sour cream. Footballers needed to have strict diets to stay healthy and couldn't afford to waste their time on junk foods. Cheat meals were allowed sometimes, but in small portions to keep the empty calories low. Jaune even avoided soda for the last several years to prevent blood sugar spikes.
"Everybody appreciates some food after a workout too," Adam added in. He slid a piece of paper on the table and over to Jaune. "We also fit it into the player's conditioning and diet plan too."
Jaune scanned the paper as he held the burrito in one hand. It was pretty standard stuff, data on Jaune condition. Weight, height, BMI, body fat percentage, and information on Jaune's status as a footballer. Below that was a list of workouts and a rather strict diet that was recommended for Jaune.
"What is this?" Jaune looked up at the other players as they finished their food. Blacklight didn't do anything like this for their players. Before Jaune was merely given a speech by his coach saying the players should try to eat healthily and do some conditioning on their own.
"It is a customised workout and diet plan, used by the football team," Adam explained as he tossed his wrap into the garbage. "Developed by yours truly." He pointed to Ivon and Pyrrha as the blonde was eating a second burrito.
Funny story," Blake began. "They used their first date to set up the entire team's workout plan and even developed the regimen we use for practice." The co-captains both flushed red and tried to act like it was no big deal. Some of the other players giggled and told their own jokes among each other.
While Jaune may not have been the most experienced person when it came to dating. By experience, Jaune had absolutely none. He may have taken a girl out to a school dance, but it never went any farther than that. However, using your first date to set up a workout plan was an idea so terrible that even Jaune couldn't come up with it. And Jaune has owned quite a few bad ideas during his time.
"It was not my idea," Ivon insisted waving his hands around to make his point. "It was her's."Pyrrha lightly hit him with the back of her hand. Jaune guessed that it was the truth judging by her reaction.
"The workout regimen does work, however," Pyrrha claimed, trying to get the group back on topic. "We modelled it after the one I use, and we discussed it with Dr Oobleck and Ms Peach and refined it even further. We try to focus on endurance conditioning mixed with weight training to maintain strength. With our diet plan, we focus on a balance of proteins, nutrient dense vegetables, fruits, and large portions of carbohydrates to replenish lost nutrients and fats burned during practice. We also try to update everyone's plan making the workout more rigorous as you get used to the one you started out with." Well, it was thorough at least. They put a lot more effort into setting this regimen up than Jaune previously thought. He wondered why Beacon had not been able to win the national championships prior.
Jaune heard the front door unlock and leaned back far enough to see who was coming in. His mother walked in carrying a handbag her side and a phone in her right hand. Jaune was hoping he wouldn't have to explain the ten or so cars parked outside his house.
Claire stopped in the living room, adjacent to the dining hall where everyone was sitting. She stared at the group of teenagers for a moment before her eyes settled on Jaune. "So these are your friends? I've been waiting to meet anybody else from Beacon, but I never guessed you would bring this many people over!"
"Oh, guys," Jaune uttered as he sat up. "This is my mom, Dr Claire Arc." Some of the girls waved at Jaune's mother, and one or two of the guys did some sort of salute. "And mom, these are my friends and some of the footballers from Beacon!" Jaune went through and introduced every one of his teammates and all of the footballers from the women's team.
"Hmmm, and are any of these young ladies courting my son," Claire jokingly asked. Jaune couldn't seem to find his tongue as some of his friends burst out laughing. Adam and Blake almost fell out of their chairs because they were laughing so hard. To Jaune's amazement, he discovered he could blush harder.
"MOM," Jaune shouted in indignation. Claire laughed and hugged her son despite his protests. Jaune just went with it and let his arms go limp.
"Don't worry Mrs Arc, we'll find Jaune a girlfriend," Adam added to Jaune's embarrassment. Jaune managed to get loose and gave Adam a look of betrayal.
"I hope he finds one eventually, I would like to have grandchildren, Jaune." Claire picked up her bag and left the dining room. "I'll be in my study if anybody needs me!"
Jaune facepalmed and wiped his face. "Yep, that's my mother!"
This chapter is slightly shorter than I would have liked, but I got everything that was necessary. I will start working on the next chapter of You've Got to Use Silver and the first chapter of my new fic, Of Nightshade and Lilac.
