A/N: Hey everyone! The tribute profile is up on my profile and tribute list as well, so go get those submissions in! We have a short POV from Aaron in this chapter and then the Sponsor System will be put down below! I hope you all enjoy!
Aaron Cane, Victor of the 75th Hunger Games.
I managed to finally drudge my way through the interview with Ceaser. A tribute has one minute of interview time during the games, and to them it has to feel like their time on stage has to be an hour. Little did they know that if they do become victor, they will be forced to have actual interviews that long. I remembered after coming out of the arena, after healing my wounds the very next day I was forced to do my victory interview. Watching the highlights of the entire games I just competed in. I saw things, horrible things I had no idea happened, but in that moment the brown eyes of Jamie slowly losing life as the poison coursed through her veins was all that ran through my mind. When that victory interview was finally over, Ceaser raised my hand above my head and declared to the capital that I was the Victor of the Third Quarter Quell.
I barely remember the moment at all.
Now, in the multiple interviews I've done they feel like they last for hours on end. After giving one more fake happy wave to the crowd I found myself walking backstage once again. Until I was to be sent back to District 7, back home for the reapings I was staying in the same suite I stayed in when I was a tribute above the training center.
I walked through backstage, looking down at my hands, wringing them together to try and calm my anxiety.
"Big Sam, Rose, Alex… Jami-." I was cut off from my list when I felt myself bumped into by someone.
"Oh, I'm terribly sorry!" A high-pitched voice rang out.
I looked up, and a tall woman in-front of me had been the one I ran into. She had on a rainbow-colored tight dress, with sky blue cotton candy looking hair. She looked like your standard capitolite but at the moment I wasn't interested in being ogled by some capitolite. I got enough of that walking anywhere in the capitol. Far too many people were just itching to get an autograph, picture or just a word with the victor of the third quarter quell.
"My mistake, please excuse me." I said quickly walking by the woman, trying to make it to the training center as quickly as possible.
I made it a few steps before her high-pitched voice came back into my head again. "Oh, my goodness you're Aaron Cane! How silly of me to not recognize you sooner, it is an honor to finally meet you in person!" She said in her high-pitched tone.
I looked quizzically at her. All the capitol citizens were beginning to look the same to me, and I certainly had no idea who she was.
"Um yes, it's nice to meet you as well." I said trying to sound enthusiastic.
She came over and violently shook my hand. Before looking back up at me brightly, "I am Elisa Auxillia, the Head Gamemaker! Last year was quite a tall task, first year as Gamemaker is the Quarter Quell! However, I am so happy that we had such a worthy victor!" She said with absolute delight.
I felt my nails dig into the palms of my hand once again, this time the nails possibly drew blood as I tried to hide my anger. This woman was the one who controlled our fates in the arena. She… she sent the mutts that poisoned her. No, it was me no matter what beast this monster of a woman sent, in the end I was the one who killed her. I was the killer, I killed Jamie.
"Y…yes thank you, I… I appreciate it." I said, my fake jovial tone finally beginning to break.
She giggled and came closer putting her hand on my shoulder. "Oh we MUST get together and discuss your games at one point. I worked for weeks on those mutts you and your district partner faced. You took them down with great skill, such ferocity! It was truly amazing." She complimented me.
I surprised myself that day. More and more of those damned mutts came from the woods, and it seemed as if the capitol was determined to kill me. My axe went through mutt after mutt after mutt… but the one I missed got to her.
I managed to choke down my true feelings and nod my head. "Yes… uh that sounds great, I'll take you up on that."
She nodded and violently shook my hand once again, before she went to take a place on stage next to Ceaser. I saw on the television back stage and heard the thunderous applause as she stood on stage. No matter how long I spent in the capitol I would never understand their love of death. I looked at the innocent looking blue haired woman on stage laughing at some horrible joke Ceaser made. It was almost impossible to believe.
She had the power of life and death in her hands.
