Disclaimer: I don't own NCIS
1 Year later:
"Lauren! James! Hurry up, you're going to be late!" Jenny shouted up the stairs
"Coming Mom!" Lauren replied
Jenny left the twins to get ready and went back to the study. As she shifted through her paperwork she found the picture she had been reminiscing over the night before. It had been taken by Ducky in Paris and showed her and Gibbs in front of the Eiffel Tower. They both had smiles that could light up a room; they were very obviously in love. Sometimes she missed the simplicity of Paris. Now, everything seemed more complex. Her relationship with Gibbs was delicate at best and she lived in fear of somebody finding her children. Glancing at the grandfather clock she sighed.
"Are you two ready!?" She hollered
"Yes!" Lauren shouted as she came running down the stairs
"Sorry mom!" James told her
"It's fine. Now come on, you're nearly late"
The three headed grabbed their coats and rushed out to Jenny's car. James and Lauren were bickering over their being late.
"It's your fault we're late James, you take about 3 hours to gel your stupid hair"
"Yeah well you're the one that spends forever doing her make up even though it's against the rules"
"Oh get over it gel boy"
The bickering continued until they reached the school.
Jenny pulled up outside their school and the twins climbed out. Lauren went to the front seat to give her mom a kiss goodbye, just like every morning.
"Thanks for the ride mom" she said
"Yeah, thanks mom" James echoed
"It's okay. Don't forget you're walking home, I've got a meeting tonight" Jenny reminded them. The twins nodded in agreement and went on their way. Jenny smiled at the two children she never thought she'd have and started the car once more.
The drive to NCIS was a short one compared to her usual 30 minute drive. She smiled at everyone on her way in to the building and wished everyone a good morning. Climbing the stairs to her office she looked down at team Gibbs. They weren't there so she assumed they were out on a case. She looked at Ziva's desk, her old desk. Remembering the good times she'd had with Burly and Gibbs she smiled and slowly continued to her office.
"Good morning Director" Cynthia greeted
"Good morning Cynthia"
The day passed relatively quickly. The work today was mainly paperwork and Gibbs didn't come up to bother her with any issues which saved her a headache. By the time she had finished her paper work, it was 3 'o' clock. Her meeting was in 10 minutes and the twins had just finished school. As much as she hated them walking home, she couldn't miss out on this meeting and her driver couldn't know about her children.
"Director, Assistant Director Vance is here. Should I send him in?"
"Yes Cynthia"
Jenny stood from behind her desk to greet Leon. She could tell this meeting would be a long one.
2 hours later:
"I'll see you then Jenny" Vance said as he stood up.
"Thank you for coming Leon" She replied, opening the door
As Vance left she let out a sigh of relief; she never did like that man but, he'd make a good Director. The meeting had dragged on longer than expected and now all she wanted was to head home. Unfortunately, things never did go as planned.
"Director, Officer David is here to see you"
"Send her in Cynthia"
As soon as Ziva came through the door she could tell there was something troubling the young woman.
"Ziva. What is it?" She asked, worried for her close friend
"I've just received a phone call from James, asking if Lauren had contacted me or Meghan. He hasn't seen her since lunch."
"What?"
"He saw her at lunch and told her he'd walk with his friends. Lauren said she'd walk with Meghan. He assumed they'd gone to my apartment instead of straight home but he rang Meghan and she hasn't seen her since lunch either"
"Oh God, I knew I shouldn't have let them walk home"
"Jenny this isn't your fault, she might just have gone out somewhere"
"She would've told James. I've got to get home, you get to Meghan, keep her safe. If someone does have Lauren, they might come after her too"
