Bella
Chapter 2
We have been travelling for hours until we saw some large winged creatures in the sky. I directed Midnight up into the clouds because I thought that the winged creatures were flying Erasers. God forbid flying Erasers! However, upon closer inspection, I realized that the winged objects were indeed flying people. There were six people in the group. One of them looked vaguely familiar, but I cannot recall from when or where.
The nameless winged people flew closer to me until they were flying beside me and Midnight. Midnight growled at them menacingly. He apparently did not like strangers or he was worried about my safety. Whatever the reason, I scratched behind his ear to calm him down.
"Are you a friend or foe?" I boldly called to my new associates.
"We are friends. We mean you no harm. My name is Max – Maximum Ride and this is my flock. The man with the dark black wings is Fang. The little girl with the white wings is Angel. The blind guy is Iggy. Nudge is known as the motor mouth." Nudge blushed at that comment. "And finally, Gazzy is known as the Gasman." Gazzy grinned at this comment.
I gasped and said, "They actually exist?"
"Yes, they do exist." said Fang. "We were attacked not long ago by a few of them. We saw you and were wondering whether or not you wanted to hang out with us. We know how hard it is to fend off an attack of Erasers by yourself."
"I would love the company! The more people the merrier! Since it sounds like you are in need of a place to stay, let me tell you about my current predicament." I then proceeded to tell the flock of how I was jumped by Erasers earlier this morning and what the Eraser said to me. "I was thinking that we could go live in Forks, Washington for a while. As our cover story, we could be enrolled in high school and Max, Fang and Iggy could be our fake parents."
Everyone agreed to the plan. Then suddenly, something dawned on me. "Wait a minute, Max, did you ever go to a place called the Institute when you were younger?"
"Yes," she said slowly and cautiously. "Why and how do you know that?"
"Do you remember rescuing a little girl that had wings? Whether you do or not, that little girl was me seven years ago. You saved my life Max. I promised myself that night when I ran away that I would eventually find you and thank you for setting me free all those years ago. Now I finally have a proper chance to thank you." I smiled at Max as I said all this. The flock's faces were in complete and utter shock.
Angel finally broke the silence. "You were that little girl? Wow, you sure have grown. You were so scared back then. I suppose you are not scared anymore since you fight off Erasers single-handily." Max smiled at Angel's comment and said, "You are sincerely welcome."
The flock and I continued to talk about our lives and our past. I discovered that Angel had powerful mind-control abilities and that the flock knew how to fly almost as good as hawks. I could see myself very happy among the flock.
We finally arrived in Forks after an eight hour trip. It was around 9 p.m. The flock had no idea of my sand powers yet, but I intended to show them soon. It occurred to me that there probably was not a home big enough to house all of us. Plus, we needed a place for Midnight to stay. I decided to build a house out of sand for us to live in. I had never tried to build something so big before, but it was worth a try.
I told the flock that we should land in a secluded area completely surrounded by dense forest so that no one would be able to see our activities.
"Why are we here?" said Gazzy. "There is not a house here!" I ignored Gazzy and jumped off Midnight's back. After removing my luggage, Midnight decided to take a rest and promptly fell asleep. "I will make us a house."
Gazzy quickly demanded, "How are you going to do that? It would take too long to build a house and we do not have the materials to make one. Where would we even get the materials anyway."
"Gazzy is right, Bella. How are you going to make a house out of nothing?" said Max.
"Everyone here has their own set of powers." I calmly and patiently said. "Well, mine is being able to make anything out of sand. In fact, I created Midnight out of sand this morning. If you do not believe me, let me at least try to make the house. Since we will all be living here, how about some ideas for rooms?" Everyone offered their opinions and I immediately set to work. I completed the house in a record time of 30 minutes. It would ordinarily take a construction crew several months to build our house.
The house had 9 master bedrooms with walk in closets and 6 master bathrooms. Every room was completely furnished with the selected furniture of the room owner. One of the listed requests was that everyone would have his or her own room. There was a kitchen the size of a large living room, a dining room, a safe room, a basement, game room and an attic. The house was 3 stories high and had many windows. The outside of the house had purple walls and a large black roof.
There was even a miniature house for Midnight to stay in so that he could come and go as he pleased. Everyone gasped at what my awesome sand power had created. The gasp caused Midnight to wake up. When he awoke, he saw his house and looked at me with pure adoration and love. Then he walked over to me and licked my face happily. I giggled. As these events were taking place, Iggy yawned and headed into the house to find his room. He was followed closely by the others except for Max and Fang. Midnight went into his home and fell asleep once more.
"Do you think that we should enroll everyone else in high school? Fang, Iggy and I could go to college." Max suggested. "I like that Idea." replied Fang. I silently agreed and nodded my head. I then started to yawn and headed toward the house to get some sleep while Fang and Max went off to find the high school.
I gladly settled in my bed and closed my eyes. Before I became dead to the world, I silently wondered about what school would be like and who we would meet.
