My heart sank with the sound of his voice; his beautiful, glass-smooth voice. I close my black eyeliner-rimmed eyes and fell into a memory.

He held my hand as we walked down the hallway. Everyone's eyes were on us, as they always were. Our eyes never met with anyone else's but each other's. I looked up at him, and he was smiling and staring foreward. I traced his gaze to see that his eyes were on another girl; a pretty girl. My eyebrows furrowed and my heart raced.

"Jesse?" I uttered, my voice nervous.

He didn't respond.

I shook his hand, which was intertwined in mine, "Jesse? Are you listening?"

He looked down in annoyance, "What do you want?"

My heart sank into my stomach, "What's wrong, love?"

"You're what's wrong. It's over." He shook his arm loose and continued into the arms of the pretty blonde girl.

I stood and watched as my love slipped away. Tears formed in my eyes as I ran to the bathroom. I let go of all control once I was alone in a stall. I cried and cried until no more tears came out. Anger rose inside my body and I could feel myself changing. Yes, I was the new Iris. And the new Iris won't put up with anything anymore.

I kicked open the stall and stormed my way to the nurse's office and was sent home.

His soft footsteps echoed in the silence until he was on the stage, standing next to me, so close that I could feel his breath caressing my neck. I was still in a daze; still in a state of shock until his hand touched my face and turned me to face him.

He smiled his toxic smile and I was hooked once again, "I missed you, Iris."

"I mis-" I stopped myself. No. I cannot let this happen. Jesse St. James will never steal my heart again. "What do you want?"

"Oh, come now, Rissy, you're still not mad at me, are you?"

I cringed when he called me that. "Get away from me."

"Why, love? Don't you love me?" His smile was intoxicating as he twirled my hair in his perfect fingers.

I was losing control. Tears formed in my blue eyes, "No."

I turned to Kyle and gave a pleading look. He walked over to us and took me by the waist.

"What's going on here?" His eyes were focused on Jesse.

"Nothing, I was just saying hello." Jesse cast me a sly look and walked out of the auditorium.

I was numb. I couldn't feel anything. My eyes traced his silhouette as he left, and continued to stare at the door even after he was gone.

"Jesse.." I uttered, longingly.

"Iris..Iris..IRIS!" Kyle shook me to get my attention.

"Wha-?" I asked in a daze.

"We have to get to class, come on." He picked me up and carried me to my next class, which was music.
