"Come along, I'll take you home"

-MONDAY-

The rainy weather had taken a toll on Mami's body, as she was prone to sickness. As much as she wanted to stay home, she knew she couldn't. With a test and two assignments due, she would definitely suffer consequences if she didn't show up.

Mami begrudgingly got out of bed, and went to the washroom. She felt extremely hot and cold at the same time.

"Geeze Mami, look at yourself. You look like crap. But at least you look like cute crap." She giggled to herself.

She brushed her teeth and washed her face in an effort to wake herself up. When she finally felt a bit more refreshed, she decided to pat some light foundation on her face to cover up her fatigued features. At this point, Mami felt like she would get through the day fine.

When she arrived at the school gates with Shigure, whom she usually walks with, the dizziness got to her. It was apparent at that point that she was spiking a fever. Shigure almost didn't realize until she tripped. It was minor and she was naturally a clumsy girl, but he noticed how weak she was while trying to get up.

"Mizuno-san, are you okay? Do you need to go to the hospital?" He looked at her, noticing her extra rosy cheeks.

"Y-yea, I'm fine. Thank you for worrying but I don't need to go to the hospital" she responded with a frail and half-forced smile. Dang he was good-looking and caring. If only he didn't fall for that glass eyed lookin girl.

Shigure helped her up and smiled at her,

"It's unusual of you to say that… You're usually more than willing to find any way to get out of class if you can." He joked, trying to get a genuine smile out of her.

"Hehe, I have responsibilities too you know~" She joked back.

They separated into their own respectable classes. Mami dropped her bag onto the floor and plopped onto her chair. She was already feeling the fever and class hadn't even started yet. Her eyes scanned around the classroom for the silver-haired boy as if in secret. When she spotted him, she turned her head away almost instinctively. She took a deep breath and slowly turned her head back around to get another glimpse. However, what she didn't know was that he was already watching her from the moment she entered the classroom. When she turned around, his face was only a few centimeters away from hers.

"A-ah, Shimotsuki-kun" she was flustered.

"Good morning, Mizuno-san" he playfully greeted her.

"G-good morning! Shimotsuki-kun!" she responded just as playfully. Her stuttering made it obvious as to how nervous she was.

"Huh, the exam is starting. I guess I'll talk to you after" he waved at her and went back to his own seat.

It was a painful 2 hours of solving math problems. Mami wasn't particularly good in math but she knew she had to at least get a 70% on this exam. If she doesn't, she can wave bye-bye to university. After she handed in her test with 50% confidence, there was a bit of time left before the end of class. A washroom break was much needed.

As soon as she began walking over to the washroom, a surge of dizziness waved over her. She really was not feeling good. Not long after, she fell onto the floor and lost consciousness in the hallway. A bystander who witnessed her fainting episode ran over to her.

"SOMEONE PLEASE HELP! A STUDENT FAINTED" The student yelled for assistance.

Most of the students in the class had already finished the exam, so they all peaked out the door in curiosity to see what was happening. Akira, who just completed his exam, walked over to the crowd. There wasn't enough space to see what was going on, so he just sat back down.

"H-hey, isn't that Mizuno-san?" one girl gasped.

Akira stood up and ran to the doorway, shoving off all the other students. However, by the time he reached Mami, Shigure was already tending to her.

"Mizuno-san, please wake up!" Shigure was panicking. He was trying everything he could to wake her up but she wouldn't budge. Damn it, he should've forced her to go to the infirmary earlier when he had the chance. But he thought she was fine- and was obviously fooled by her act. He thought he knew how to tend to her.

Akira ignored Shigure and picked Mami up. His immediate goal was to get her to the infirmary. While pretty boy Shigure was taking his sweet time assessing Mami, Akira needed to get her help from a nurse ASAP.

"What are you trying to do?" Shigure snapped at Akira with hostility

"What does it look like? I'm bringing her to the infirmary. You took too long to do that" Akira responded with the same tone.

With Mami in his arms, he ran to the infirmary as fast as he could and set her down on the bed.

"Oh my goodness, what happened?" The nurse asking, as she ran checks on Mami.

"She fainted. I think she has a fever." Akira replied as he ran his hands over Mami's hot forehead.

"Oh dear, this isn't the first time it's happened. Poor girl gets sick so easily."

"Really? I've never noticed…" Akira admitted. He was never particularly interested in Mami so he never paid close attention.

"Yeah. If you don't mind leaving for a bit, I am going to wipe her down. She's burning right now" The nurse politely asked Akira to step out

"Of course. I'll be right outside."

It wasn't only Akira that was waiting, however. Shigure was waiting too, and he looked as scared as ever. The two sat in silence while waiting for Mami.

"I should've forced her to come here this morning… Why did I think she was going to be okay" Shigure had his face in his hands, in obvious frustration.

Akira was quiet as ever. He didn't want to console Shigure yet he felt bad for him. He knew it wasn't Shigure's fault. There was no way of knowing for sure how bad her fever was.

"It's fine. I'll wait for her here. You should go back to your classes" Akira looked down at his shoes, "I'm sure Yukina-chan's waiting for you." As if to admit a bit of defeat.

"Fine. Make sure she's okay though. If she isn't, I will personally kick your ass" Shigure joked, but in a serious tone.

"You have my word." Akira responded with the same seriousness.

After a bit of waiting, the nurse got Akira to come back. She explained Mami's condition to him.

"She's stable now. Earlier, her fever was spiked to 104 degrees, which could have been very dangerous. I would like you to keep an eye on her and keep checking on her, but I know you have class. So instead I'm going to-"

"It's fine. I don't have important classes today." He lied. Kind of.

"um alright. It's your discretion but I advise not to" The nurse gave the typical response

"Yeah, thank you." Akira was adamant on taking care of Mami.

The nurse left the infirmary to tend to other things, and all that was left in the room was Akira and Mami. He watched her peaceful sleeping face and grabbed her hand.

"Please be okay, Mizuno-san. I'm very worried about you." He spoke to her as if she was conscious, "I'm sorry I didn't notice earlier. And I'm sorry I didn't know you got sick so easily. I wouldn't have let you stay out in the rain last time."

He halted as if waiting for a response, but he knew she couldn't give him one. So he kept watching over her- he couldn't help it. He slowly brought her hand over to his lips and hesitated. He wanted to kiss her hands but he didn't want to admit that he was falling for her. To him, Yukina-chan was always the one he had an eye on. It almost felt like a sin to have eyes for another girl. But it didn't matter at this point. He just wanted Mami to get better and wake up. He tenderly kissed her fragile and soft hands. And kissed it again, and again.

After some time had passed, Akira fell asleep sitting next to Mami's bed. He was then promptly woken up by a phone call.

"Hello?"

"Akira, where are you?" On the other end of the call was Yukina. The only one he had eyes for.

"Oh Yukina-chan! Im…" he looked over to Mami, "in the washroom. Why?" He lied. He wasn't sure for what reasons but he lied.

"Oh well… you promised me you would buy me food after school" Yukina replied. Sounding a bit nervous for some reason

"Oh, yeah I did, I'm sorry I must've forgotten!" Akira replied apologetically. He didn't even notice the school had already ended.

"Hehe that's unusual of you to forget about me" Yukina joked. Akira wasn't sure if she was flirting with him but he liked it.

"Well, I'll find you right now! Where are you?"

After some time had passed, Mami had woken up.

"mmm…. Where am I?" she groggily yawned. She felt a lot better, surprisingly.

"Mi-Mizuno-san? You're okay? How are you feeling?" Shigure was next to her.

"Shigure-kun... were you here watching me the whole time?" She was delightfully surprised.

"Uhh, yea. I was. I brought you here." He lied. He didn't want her to know how useless he was in the situation. He wanted her to still look at him as someone of comfort.

"Oh really? Thank you so much!" she hugged him tight, "Mami is so thankful."

"It's no problem." Shigure felt a tug on his chest.

Shigure proceeded to walk Mami home, and waved goodbye to her as he returned to his own. Mami sat down on her bed and tried to recall the events that happened earlier. She wanted to remember Shigure's soft touch. However, she could've sworn that she saw Akira carrying her. She wouldn't have known though, she kept slipping in and out of consciousness. So she just accepted it.

A part of her really did wish it was Akira who was there.

"I wish it was you"
