The 13th Olympian Chapter 2
A/N: Hello There Everyone! It's your boy Slugboy934 here with the new and improved second chapter of The 13th Olympian! (Hoorah) again, a few changes, and just overall better than last time. It's also a hell of a lot longer! So go my friends! Read on!
Previously:
…Ares just glowered at Percy for the way that his girlfriend was fawning over the Son of Poseidon and flashed away, to wherever angry Gods go. Before finally there was one last Olympian left to speak to Percy. The Goddess of Wisdom. Athena.
"Congratulations Sea Spawn, It will be interesting to see how you cope with being an Olympian." And with that Athena prowled off through the crowd, her aura parting those before her as if she had the plague.
Percy sat back down on his Throne and relaxed, taking it all in and sighed.
'Yeah. I could totally get used to this' thought the 13th Olympian…
End Previous:
"Ugh my head" Percy groaned as he brought both his hands to his head, trying his hardest to remember what happened the night before, but all he could recall was flashes and lights and very… VERY, loud music.
"Damn Apollo and his taste for loud music, my head feels like I've gone 12 rounds with Kronos… again'
Percy hauled himself up from his place on the floor of the Throne Room, strewn around him were numerous Minor Gods and Goddesses as well as some Olympian *cough* Apollo and Hermes *Cough*. Everyone seemed very out of it and a few of the Gods and Goddesses were coming to.
"Too bright" whimpered the Sun God as he covered his eyes, unable to stand the brightness of the Throne Room as it seared his hungover eyes. Both Apollo and Hermes sat up groggily, rubbing bleary eyes and took a look around, noticing all the unconscious Immortals they laughed and high fived.
"I think that takes the cake for best Olympus party we have ever thrown dear brother of mine" laughed Apollo as he sprung to his feet, ready to flash away to do his duties as the Sun God.
"Oh and Hermes? You can tell our dear cousin about his fabulous attempts to get the attention of a certain Goddess" Apollo laughed once again, and then took a few steps before taking of in a dead sprint for the side of Olympus, before leaping, flipping and Swan Diving down out of sight.
"Apollo! What the fu-" Percy cried out seeing his cousin going towards, while not a fatal fall, would still hurt.
"Don't worry Perce, he does this after most Parties… It's his way of waking up" Laughed Hermes at seeing Percy's face.
Sure enough a dull roar was heard, before steadily growing louder and louder until it sounded like a C-17* was flying directly past Olympus, when suddenly a Beautiful Fiery Red Decatti Ferrari Enzo soared past, breaking the sound barrier and shaking the foundations of Olympus as it flew higher and higher, before Apollo shifted into a higher Gear and disappeared from sight as he drove the Sun across the sky.
"Huh, I thought he would have stuck with the Bat-Mobile for a little while…" Hermes cocked his head in thought before decided he didn't really care and spun to face Percy, who was still pondering how Apollo got that car.
"So little Cousin, how long have you had an interest in Athena?" Hermes asked, a small smile on his face as he faced the 13th Olympian.
"W-What? I don't have an i-interest in A-Athena, what are you talking about Hermes?" Percy questioned, head snapping towards Hermes, stumbling over his words in confusion.
"Oh please Perce, we all saw you, you spent the night trying to catch her eye, hell, you even tried to give her your drink several times, top effort for trying bro" laughed Hermes as he patted Percy on the shoulder and got up to leave.
"Now while you stew in your confusion and embarrassment, I also have duties to get to, so until next time Perce… toodaloo" and with that Hermes vanished, leaving behind the faint scent of fresh pressed paper.
"What the hell was he talking about, I never tried to get the attention of Athena… Did I?" Percy asked himself as he too got up off the ground.
"I think you will find Percy baby, you did" A very girly, very giggly voice entered Percy's head
"Aphrodite… What have you done? And get out of my Head!" Growled the Son of Poseidon
"Uh Percy, if I get out of your head, then how will you ever know what it is that I have done? And as for what exactly that is, well… I merely unlocked the hidden feelings that you had been trying to deny, I told you before my dear, I was going to make your love life very interesting." Giggled the Olympian Love Goddess as she finally left Percy's head.
'What feelings? I didn't even know that I had them… Did I?' Percy shook his head as these thoughts flew around his Godly mind. He sat in silence for a few minutes and collected his thoughts and memories as the other Gods and Goddesses, awoken by the noise of the Sun God's departure and conversation around them finally shook themselves awake and flashed back to their palaces in the Godly walk of shame.
Percy sat for a few minutes longer before a memory from the previous night floated into his head…
FLASHBACK:
"erseus… Perseus… Perseus!" snapped an angry voice that seemed to come from the Son of Poseidon's left, Percy snapped out of the stupor that he was in and turned away from the very alluring sight of Aphrodite dancing to the –slightly- less alluring sight of an annoyed Athena.
"Yes Athena? What can I help you with?" asked a still slightly dazed Percy, not quite recovering from the visual show he had just received from a still smirking Aphrodite.
"Zeus has asked me to speak with you in the coming weeks about your new palace, for I will be the one that is designing it. So what would be a good time for you Sea Spawn?" Asked the Goddess of Wisdom with a neutral look on her face, as she stared Percy down.
"Um, How does Tomorrow sound? I don't think I will be going to crazy tonight so Tomorrow should be fine… would you like a drink?"
"No Perseus. I do not want a drink. I will see you tomorrow Froth Face" and with that Athena walked away smirking at the look of slight disappointment on the face of Percy."
Of course, Percy said all this not realising that the night was still young and Apollo and Hermes had yet to guide him in the proper ways of partying like an Olympian…
END FLASHBACK:
Percy got up from his place on the floor and made his way to the entrance of the Throne Room, which had been turned into a giant party room by Apollo and Hermes the previous night. He passed by a groaning Nemesis and asked her for directions of the way to the palace of Athena.
"Ugh… Walk for, like, 5 minutes then turn left, then make another left, then turn right and you're there. Easy. Now go away. *GROAN*" mumbled the very hungover Goddess of Revenge
And so with those very confusing directions in his mind Percy set off and walked for 5 minutes, took a left turn, and then the next left turn, and then a right turn and had to stop and stare in wonder. Athena's palace was certainly a site to see. The Goddess had designed her palace to look like a more 'homely' version of the Parthenon, and by 'homely', Percy meant not half destroyed. The Palace was finished off with a Bronze double door with a large, ornate Owl knocker.
'Fitting' Percy mused, 'The Owl is one of her scared animals'
Percy climbed the stairs leading up to the door and reached out to grab the knocker, however, before he could lay a hand on the glittering Owl. The door swung open and in its wake stood the Goddess in question herself, wearing what Percy could only describe as standard teacher outfit. Athena looked at him with slightly irritated Stormy Grey eyes and said.
"You're late Perseus." For some reason the way that she said it made the God of Heroes feel like he had disappointed her, and for some strange reason, that is the last thing Percy wanted to do by coming here today.
'What is going on with me lately? Man she really pulls off that Teacher outfit. Wait what? God damn it Aphrodite Get out of my head!'
"Oh Percy you're no fun!" giggled the Love Goddess as she left the Son of Poseidon's head. It was only when Percy felt a hand smack the side of his face did he snap back to attention, quite literally.
"Pay attention Perseus, I have called your name three times now" and with that Athena left the stunned God on her front doorstep and disappeared into the largest Library that Percy had ever seen.
After spending 5 fruitless minutes trying to find Athena Percy gave up and started yelling her name to try and get her attention and remind her that he did not know how to navigate her 'maze of books' as Percy had dubbed it. It wasn't until the shelves parted and an amused Athena was stood in their place did Percy realise where he had to go, and it was only when he followed the Wisdom Goddess through to wherever she was taking him, that he did not know how he would get out of this place.
"Now Perseus, what colour would you like your palace to be?"
"Sea Green, with a bit of Sunset Orange on the roof, to symbolise the sunset over the ocean" Percy replied instantly, his mind made up of what he wanted.
"Hmmm I suppose that can be done, and on a scale of Minor God to Zeus, how big do you want your Palace to be?" Athena questioned, pencil hovering above the paper as she awaited the Son of Poseidon's answer.
"I want it to be large, but not Zeus large. I want it to be able to accommodate any visiting heroes, because due to my being God of Heroes, I have decided that my palace will be a sort of… safe house, for those Demigods that are visiting Olympus and have nowhere to stay. No more sleeping on the Throne Room floor."
"That is admirable Perseus, and on behalf of any of my children staying there in the future… Thankyou." Athena said, not meeting Percy's eyes, and looking very uncomfortable to be thanking him for anything.
"And last but not least, what type of theme do you want for your palace? By that I mean what do you want the main type of decorations to be, for example, for my palace, I have mainly books and architecture-esque equipment laid out, and Apollo has very bright, shiny things." Athena inquired, finally able to look Percy in the eyes again.
"Hm… I want an Ocean Theme – Hey! I'm not done!" Percy laughed as he saw Athena roll her eyes at his theme idea.
"As I was saying, I want an Ocean theme, however along the walls of my palace, going in order of time – what's the word again? – oh that's right, chronological order, I want the stories of all the Heroes you hear about in Mythology, like Hercules, Achilles, Theseus, and Perseus – not me, the other one. So that when the Demigods are here, they will have something to keep them entertained, and they can relive the adventures of their, well, heroes." Percy enthused, getting more animated with each word that he said, becoming more and more convinced that this was a good idea.
"That's all well and good Perseus, but, what about the most famous Hero of all? The Demigod who became an Olympian? Should we tell his story?" Athena left the question in the air as Percy pondered her suggestion.
"I don't think so, there are far greater Heroes than me, all the Demigods who fell in both Wars should be mentioned, no matter how great or small their deeds were, they are the true Heroes, and they deserve to be immortalized with the likes of Achilles and Theseus. I, however, do not need my story to be told for eternity, because it is not the happiest of tales. Now, is that all you needs me for Athena? I have a camp full of Greek and Roman Demigods to check up on, after all, they did just fight a War." Percy stated with a grin on his face
"No, that should be all Perseus, good bye." Athena dismissed him turning back to her papers and starting to sketch.
"Oh and one more thing Athena, can you call me Percy? Perseus makes me sound… old" Percy pleaded to an unsympathetic Wisdom Goddess.
"Good bye… Perseus" her answer as blunt as the Goddess herself, Percy knew it was time to go.
And it was just as well, for if he had stayed, he might have noticed the small smile on Athena's face.
As Percy made his way down the streets of Olympus he took a look around and noticed the looks he was getting by the assembled crowds, not quite sure of what exactly the looks meant he asked a passer-by Nymph, who looked as though she was about to feint at any second.
"Uh hi, sorry to bother you, but do you know why everyone is looking at me like they have never seen me before?"
"My lord P-Perseus, I believe it is because you are an O-Olympian, and they do not often get to see one of those up close, the other Olympians usually flash round and don't walk the Market Place like the Minor Gods do." The Nymph scampered away after that, unable to be questioned more, so Percy, uncomfortable with the looks he was getting, flashed to the borders of Camp Olympus.
As soon as he arrived, the Dragon that was guarding the border, and Thalia's Tree, rose up in challenge, ready to defend the home he was trained to protect.
"Calm yourself Peleus, it is just me." Percy soothed the beast, allowing the Dragon to nudge him and rub itself against his side, akin to that of a VERY large dog.
As he stood there overlooking the Camp that had been his home for so many years, his mind flashed back to the battle that changed everything and signified the beginning of the next Era of Peace.
FLASHBACK (RATHER LONG):
A bolt of Lightning lit up the sky, the power of the Master Bolt truly on show as the Giant King stumbled back from the blast, crushing legions of monsters with his massive scaly feet, but sure enough, righted himself and charged straight back at the King of the Gods.
However the attention of the Son of Poseidon was stolen from the Battle of Kings when a very familiar female scream wrought the air, and Percy's head snapped to the left where he watched the airborne form of Athena's Daughter Annabeth crashing into the ground with a sickening thud, the force of which would kill any normal mortal. Percy only hoped Annabeth would defy the odds, he couldn't lose his best friend.
Filled with a new determination to reach the Daughter of Athena, arguably the strongest Demigod of all time, mowed his way through the Monster force until he arrived at the very still, broken looking body of Annabeth, however, through the sudden onslaught of tears, he noticed the very small, but still noticeable rise of her chest. The sign that the daughter of Athena, survivor of Tartarus, had survived this fall.
"APOLLO!" Percy screamed
It was a testament to the amount of respect the God had for Percy, when he arrived before the last syllable was out of his mouth, already crouched by Annabeth's side running diagnostics before suddenly he picked her up and flashed away, presumably to the battle Infirmary.
The Son of Poseidon now had a new target, the Giant who had dared hurt the Hero of Olympus' best friend. Enceladus.
However just before Percy was able to engage the Giant in battle, a Goddess in Silver Battle Armour got there first, furious at the treatment of her Daughter, Athena was unleashing everything she had against the Giant, her flickering from the only indication of how close she was to losing control. The Goddess and her Foe were locked in a Deadly Tango, neither getting an inch, neither falling back.
Finally it seemed as though Athena was gaining an advantage over the Giant, she was pushing him back, back into the side of the mountain. However dude to the Goddesses legendary rage, she was unable to notice the trick before it happened, and in the blink of an eye the Gant had swept the legs of the Goddess from behind her and had the tip of his flaming spear poised at her throat.
"Victory is Mine puny Goddess, did you not enjoy what I did to your daughter, it is a shame, for I am going to do much worse to you." He laughed as he raised the deadly tip, planning to ram it down onto the seemingly defeated Goddesses throat.
However it was his booming laugh, that echoed across the battlefield, drawing the attention of Ally and Foe alike, that was his downfall, for due to the noise he never noticed the oncoming cracks in the ground, he never noticed the shaking of the ground. He never noticed the Son of the Earthshaker, unleashing his earthquake powers. And so it was to the Giants ultimate shock that he was suddenly off balance, and the roles were now reversed, as the Goddess, so helpless a moment ago, was suddenly the one with the weapon in her hands, and the mighty Giant, with a spear against his throat, staring into the Stormy Grey eyes of his arch-nemesis, conceded defeat and uttered a final warning to the Goddess of Wisdom.
"You think you have won? You think we are the last? You Olympians stand no chance for who comes next. Go ahead Goddess, kill me, I shall have my revenge when you are thrown into Tartarus with me HAH-" his laughter cut short as both a Spear and Sword were plunged into his throat from point blank range, with deadly precision. The Giant was dead. Annabeth was avenged.
"Thank you Perseus, now I must go check on my Daughter, avert your eyes… Hero" Athena warned and flashed away to Annabeth.
Percy stood there with Golden Dust around his feet and slowly turned his body back to War that was taking place, no time to catch his breath, only time to fight. And it was when an almighty roar of pain erupted to his right, which he noticed, finally, the Giant King had fallen, succumbing to the combined effort of Father and Son.
Silence. Complete silence covered the battlefield, neither side daring to believe what had just happened. The Side of Olympus, wondering if they had won, if this terrible fight was over. And the Side of the Giants, unsure of whether to flee, or fight to the last man and monster.
And so it was when an unearthly shriek, and a rumbling of the Earth brought all attention to the centre of the battlefield, where a large crack had appeared in the ground and out of it, rising, inch by inch, meter by meter, was the Earthen from of the Primordial Goddess Gaea.
"You foolish Gods, You may have defeated my children, but you will not defeat me." Gaea warned, her figure emanating power, absolute authority pulsating from her voice.
And so it was with an almighty boom, that Zeus split open the skies and called forth the Master Bolt once more and unleashed a huge bolt of Lightning at the Earth Goddess, and which amazing speed the Primordial moved… spun to the right with grace that defied her massive size, however she was not quick enough, for the bolt of pure energy struck her right fore-arm and sheared off the appendage. Gaea screamed and struck the ground with her remaining arm sending a concentrated earthquake in the direction of Zeus. And thus the battle was on.
All of Olympus' forces rushed the Goddess, intent on finishing this now. However Gaea had other plans, for she slammed her foot on the ground and caused the biggest earthquake that Percy had ever felt, the whole World trembled, and the forces of Olympus fell, the only ones left standing, The Big Three – Zeus, due to his ability to fly was currently soaring upwards, to get a better vantage point to attack the Goddess, Poseidon due to his Earthshaker abilities able to stay upright in the face of impending Danger, and Hades, due to having the most control over the Earth in terms of the other Gods weathered the Earthquake, staring down the Earth Mother. Impressed by her power, but not intimidated. Jason meanwhile had had the foresight to fly upwards, the same as his Father, and therefore escaped the earthquake. And Percy, the son of the Earthshaker, imitated his Father and Uncle and stared down the Earth Goddess, preparing himself for the fight of his life.
"My Brothers! Keep her focussed on you! Cooperate and negate her powers, Jason, Perseus! Attack her legs, avoid her attacks. I will batter her with Lightning. Now my Brethren. FOR OLYMPUS!" Zeus ordered from above. Showing some of the battle instinct that was shown in the First Titan War, and thus was one of the reasons he was chosen as King.
Gaea sent another wave of Earth at Poseidon and Hades as the two eldest Sons of Kronos both concentrated fiercely and stopped the wave of Earth in its place and attempted to send it back to the Primordial. It became a battle of wills as the brothers slowly overpowered the Goddess due to the youngest Son of Kronos continuously battering her with bolts of Lightning, ripping open the Skies with each blast, craters opening up on the outer skin of the Earth Goddess.
Percy and Jason both rushed the legs of the Earth Goddess, Percy using the Earth to propel himself towards the Goddess, while Jason flew overhead, sword raised ready to attack the Earth Goddess. By the time that they had reached her mighty legs, The Tidal Wave of Earth was already a quarter of the way back, slowly being pushed further and further towards the Goddess. Percy was the first one to reach the Goddess, slashing Riptide towards her legs and drawing first blood, getting a face full of dirt for his troubles, Jason arrived a second later, attacking the other leg, however avoiding the dirt in the face, much to the chagrin of Percy.
Both Sons of the Big Three continued to slash the legs of the Goddess until they realised that it was not doing anything.
"Jase, I'm going to summon a hurricane, I need you to pour as much Lightning as you can into the Hurricane!" Percy yelled to Jason, stopping his relentless slashing for the moment.
"But Percy, what if the Lightning gets you?" Yelled the Son of Jupiter, worry etched on his features, the scar on his lip prominent on his pale face, indicating that the Son of Jupiter was more exhausted than he was letting on.
"It won't! It will work! Trust me bro" Percy flashed Jason his signature grin and closed his eyes, not a second later a fierce wind whipped up, causing Jason to focus, to prevent himself from falling, before the water vapour from the air joined the wind, completing the miniature hurricane surrounding the Son of Poseidon. Jason sighed before concentrating. Bolts of Lightning began striking the hurricane, getting caught in the flow, spinning around Percy.
Suddenly Percy's eyes snapped open, glowing with power, before the hurricane, and Percy began to rise, slowly, towards Gaea. The minute the hurricane of power touched the Goddess, she screamed. And so lost her focus on the wall of Earth, and so Poseidon and Hades pushed with an Olympic (haha) effort and the solid wall of earth began flying towards Gaea, at an almost blistering pace. Percy, exhausted, felt the hurricane dissipate as He succumbed to the exhaustion and fell. Jason, only just catching him. Still in shock at one of his best friends show of power.
The MASSIVE wall of Earth slammed into Gaea with the force of train hitting a stationary car. The Goddess went down. So hard in fact that the earth shook, again.
Within moments all three Sons of Kronos had swarmed the Earth Mother, Zeus positioned on her stomach, Poseidon to his right, Hades to his left. The three Brothers, united at last. Absolutely disgusting in Gaea's eyes.
"You cannot kill me! You can only put me back to sleep, for I am the EARTH, I AM ETERNAL!" Gaea screamed, unable to muster the strength to do anything else.
"Shut up Gaea, this war ends now." Zeus stated as he raised his Symbol of Power, Poseidon mirroring him with his Trident, with Hades raising his hands, wreathed in Hellfire.
"You will find, Zeus, Son of Kronos, that your puny lightning bolts will not be so effective in the coming years." Gaea laughed as she stared at both the Master Bolt and Zeus' slowly reddening face.
Zeus took measure breaths, and spoke, rage lacing each word.
"You want Lightning Earth Goddess? I will show you… Lightning. I AM THE MASTER OF THE SKY! NOW BROTHERS!" Zeus Roared.
The Sky lit up, splitting apart, blinding all who were watching, a clap of Thunder shook the world, as the largest Bolt of Lightning ever seen speared its way into the heart of Gaea.
The World shook as Poseidon slammed the butt of his Trident into Gaea's stomach, summoning the largest Earthquake he could, only slightly smaller than the Earth Mother's previous attempt.
The temperature of the Earth was raised as Hades unleashed the fires of Hell upon the face of the Earth Mother, searing her flesh and destroying the earth particles trying to heal her.
Finally the screaming stopped. Finally Gaea was defeated. Never to rise again. Hopefully.
FLASHBACK END (FINALLY):
Percy shook his head, as Peleus nudged his hand, trying to get the God of Heroes to continue petting him.
Percy laughed at the dragon before continuing on his way down the hill towards the camp. Towards the campers that had been his life for so long.
It was lunch time at Camp Olympus, and so it was to everyone's shock when the Hero of Olympus, and Newest member of the Olympian Council suddenly waltzed in with his goofy grin, strode up to Chiron, and pulled him into a hug.
"Perc-Lord Perseus, what are you doing here?" Chiron asked in shock
"Chiron! Please, just call me Percy. That goes for all of you! And please, don't bow to me" Percy said, addressing all the members of Camp Olympus. All the Roman and Greek Demigods slowly rose of their knees, sheepishly smiling at the Olympian.
"Come on guys give me some love!" Percy cried as he spread his arm, awaiting hugs from all his friends, and they did not disappoint.
The twin Sons of Hermes were the first to reach Percy, grabbing him in a combined bear hug that rivalled his Cyclops brother, Percy smiled as he hugged Travis and Connor. Katie Gardner was next and she gave him a hug that was just as strong as the Sons of Hermes. Percy continued on for several minutes, giving hugs to all his friends, from both Greek and Roman pantheons. Before he was standing in front of arguably his biggest rival he had ever known. The Daughter of the war God. Clarisse.
"Welcome back Prissy" Percy laughed and waited for the punch that he knew was to come, and so was pleasantly surprised when, instead of the punch he received something that he did not know that she was capable of giving. Percy got a hug from Clarisse.
"It's good to be back Clary" Percy muttered, still stunned from the hug.
"Wake up Fish Breath!"
Cue the punch. Percy grinned as he rubbed his arm. Clarisse grinned back, knowing the punch hadn't hurt, but glad he was playing along.
The God of Tides turned back to Chiron, and asked the question that had been burning on his mind ever since he walked into the dining area and not been able to locate his target.
"Chiron, where is she?"
"In the Infirmary my dear boy… she is… doing better" Chiron said his face a mask of sadness as he spoke about the Daughter of Athena he had raised since the age of Seven.
Percy grinned and said his goodbyes to the other campers, and took off towards the Infirmary. Only stopping at the wooden door that led to the hospital-esque area of the Camp, where his best friend was currently situated.
The 13th Olympian pushed open the door and walked in, breathing in the scent of the infirmary.
'Hmm lavender, that's different' Thought Percy as he scanned the room, the multitude of beds lined up, empty, all except for one.
The Daughter of Athena lay with her back to Percy, rhythmic breathing the only sign of life. Accepting that Annabeth was asleep Percy walked up to the side of her bed and glanced at her face. So peaceful. A pleasant contrast to the look of absolute pain on her face the last time he saw her, there were no bruises now, no stream of blood running from her mouth. And so Percy resigned himself to coming back another time and brushed the hair out of her face and turned to walk away, content to wait…
"Percy?" the tired voice of the greatest friend he had ever known brought the Son of Poseidon to a standstill. He slowly turned smile growing as he took in her tired, yet alert gaze, sizing him up and welcoming him at the same time, as only a child of Athena can.
"Hey Wise Girl"…
