A/N: Here's the replacement for this chapter. Been a long time coming.
Disclaimer: I own only Bree.
Once I pulled into the park's parking lot, I put my car in park and turned off my engine. I gripped my steering wheel tightly then let go and leaned back in my seat with a sigh, rubbing the bridge of my nose in frustration. What a day to try and relive theseold memories,I thought bitterly as I wiped some remaining tears off of my cheeks. Pulling a pair of sunglasses out of my pocket, I slipped them on and pushed my car door open and got out, slamming the door behind me. After locking my car, I turned and looked at the park.
This park had definitely had not changed from my childhood, from the rust covered jungle gym that a few small boys were playing on to the chain link swing set that a couple of girls were swinging on, laughing loudly. I gave a small smile as I walked through the park towards a picnic table. When I reached it, I sat down and put my head in my hands. The memories of this place were overwhelming me, suffocating me like thick smoke. Closing my eyes, I thought back to that day...the day my sister was taken from me.
It was the day of mine, Bree -my twin-, and Gwen's sixth birthday. Our parents were barbecuing by the picnic tables, laughing at each other's stories of work and social lives as the kids, including my older cousin Kenny, were playing on the playground. Our imaginations ran wild back then, even with Kenny, who was now eleven. We played as knights and princesses on this particular day, Bree and Gwen saying that they were 'tough princesses like Mulan' and can fight bad guys with me and Ken.
Soon enough, we had grown tired of the game and Kenny went to go grab some food while the three of us went to go play with Grandpa Max. He was younger back then and laughed as he chased around the park in a game of freeze tag. That game ended soon enough as Gwen wanted Grandpa Max to push her on the swing, leaving Bree and me to play on our own.
Even back then, I was adventurous and my twin sister was no different. Back then, everything was bigger than we were and when we looked at those huge trees, we didn't feel a sense of foreboding like other kids would; no, we felt excitement.
"What do you think we'll find in there?" I had asked my sister excitedly.
"Maybe buried treasure!" Bree said with a grin.
"Or a witch's house!" I added. "Made of candy!"
"Yeah! We could beat the witch and take the candy for ourselves!"
I had nodded, more than ecstatic at the thought of having that much candy to eat. I grabbed my sister's hand and said, "Let's go, Bree!" And with that we had taken off into the woods, without telling anyone where we off to.
I opened my eyes and realized that I had begun to silently cry once more. Taking off my sunglasses, I furiously rubbed at my eyes before standing up and putting my sunglasses back on. I shoved my hands deep in my jacket pockets and began to walk towards the tree line that my sister and I had gone into all those years ago. Before entering those woods, I stopped for a minute and just stared at the trees. They looked foreboding now. Why couldn't have been that way when I was younger? Maybe then, we wouldn't have gone in and my sister might still be by my side today.
Taking a deep breath, I grit my teeth and walked into the trees.
