Chapter 2 - Wow

We left the apartment at around 9am and didn't return until 8pm. It was a very long day and I was so exhausted that I could barely make it to the bed. After placing all our bags inside the apartment, Dimitri carried me the rest of the way into our bedroom. He helped me change out of my clothes and into something more comfortable for sleep. I had climbed into bed, pulled the covers up and started to fall asleep. "Goodnight my Roza, sweet dreams" Dimitri said as he climbed in next to me and kissed me on the cheek. We curled up in each other's arms and both let ourselves give into sleep.

Ring, Ring, Ring…. Ugh you've got to be kidding me! I open my eyes to reach for the phone on the night stand and catch a glimpse of the time on my alarm clock. 6:40! This better be good.

"WHAT!" I snap to the person on the other end of the phone, not even bothering to check caller Id.

"Wow, someone's not a morning person," said a very amused Lissa. "I just wanted to tell you that I was planning on going to the mall today and I got you off duty, so we can shop together. Unfortunately, I couldn't get Dimitri off as well, but he'll be coming because Christian's is."

"I thought you guys went shopping yesterday?" I asked.

Lissa paused for a moment, obviously considering her words carefully. "We were going to but we um… well we got a little distracted and never made it out of the suite" She admitted, rushing the last bit.

"Now whose going at it like rabbits?" I teased with a laugh.

"Stop it Rose!" I could hear the embarrassment in her voice at the mention of her at Christian's love life and it only made me laugh more. "Just meet us here at the suite at 8:30." And then she hung up before I could comment further.

I put my phone back on the night stand and turned back to see that Dimitri had woken up during my conversation with Lissa. He now lies on his side watching me with curiosity. As I tell him the plan for today he starts to run his hand along my shoulder and down my arm, a smile curling at his lips. I can't help but laugh.

"What is so funny?" he asks.

"You. Do you think I don't notice what you're doing?" I say and all he does is smile wider.

Rolling us over so that he is on top of me, he starts tickling me. I giggle and squirm beneath him, begging in-between breaths for him to stop it.

"Is this what you were expecting?" He asks me knowingly, and I shake my head.

He slowly gives in to my pleas and once he completely stops his attack and I regain my composure, he starts to take my pyjamas off.

"This is more like it!" I exclaim as the trail of kisses down my neck begin.

At 8:00 we were getting dressed after our morning… exercise. I wasn't really looking forward to another shopping day. I mean, we had completed the majority of our Christmas shopping yesterday, so a second day of it will be kind of boring. Though I suppose a day with Lissa and Christian won't be so bad. I haven't spent much time with them recently and there has been something I've been wanting to talk to Lissa about, but I've been putting it off.

Dimitri heads out to the kitchen to quickly whip us something for breakfast and I take the small amount of alone time to do something I should have done days ago. I reach under the bed and pull out my suitcase. I unzip it as quietly as I can and pull the bag that's inside out. Placing the suitcase back under the bed, I take the bag and head into the bathroom. I lay the contents of the bag onto the vanity and stare at them. Three boxes. Three identical boxes. You can do this, I think to myself. I open the first box.

20 minutes later, I'm sitting on the cold tiles of the bathroom floor, staring at the three little sticks in my hand. It can't be true. There has to be some kind of mistake. These tests have to be faulty.

"We should get going Roza, we don't want to be late." Dimitri calls to me through the door, pulling me from my train of thought.

I yell back at him that I need a minute. I hide the sticks and boxes back in the bag and shove it behind some products in the vanity cupboard, before heading out to meet Dimitri. My hands are still shaking a little as we lock the door and walk towards the elevator but if Dimitri notices, he doesn't say anything. The building we live in happens to be, other than Palace Housing, the most expensive apartment building at court and just so happens to be right next door to Palace Housing. How convenient? We arrive at Lissa and Christian's door and ring the bell. One of Lissa's guardians answers the door and lets us in. We walk into the loungeroom where Christian is sitting playing his Xbox 360.

"Hey Rose, Dimitri, how's it going?" he asks, trying very hard to take his eyes off the screen but just can't quite make himself.

"Um… yeah everything's good. Is Liss in her room?" I ask needing to talk to her desperately and hoped Dimitri didn't hear the nervousness in my voice.

"Yep she's doing her makeup or something." He says rolling his eyes.

"Ok thanks." I say and kiss Dimitri on the cheek before running off to find Lissa.

I knock on the door and Lissa tells me to come in. "Hey Rose, I'm almost done and we'll get going. It should only take us an hour or so to get there." She says as I walk in.

I take a seat on the edge of her bed. "That's fine." I say.

"Rose what's wrong?" she asks, concern all over her face.

"Liss I need to tell you something, but you have to promise that you won't tell anyone." I say.

She moves to sit next to me on the bed, taking my shaking hands in hers as she says, "Rose I promise, now please tell me what's wrong. You're starting to scare me."

"Do you think it's possible that when Dimitri was restored back into a Dhampir it could have altered his genetics a little?" I ask.

"Well they did all those tests on him when he returned to court and found nothing inconsistent with him being a normal Dhampir, but I suppose it could still be possible, why?" she sounds just as confused as I feel.

"Well you see, um, Dimitri and I, well you know we've slept together right?" she nods and I continue, "Yeah well I think I might be, um, pregnant." Lissa stares at me as if I've grown a second head. "Can you say something? Anything? Please?" I beg.

It feels like an eternity before she finally finds her voice but all that come out is "Wow!" ...
