Missing Vash, Again
Year 113 month 6 day 26
When I found you again, over at the Seeds ship village, I had expected that everything would be the same as before.
I expected that you would continue making those same sorts of half-hearted efforts to get away from us that you always had. And, as before, I'd expected that – with a little effort – we could still follow you.
I expected that, again, I would be seeing you every day.
But that's not what happened, is it?
You and Wolfwood left the Seeds village quietly, early in the morning, without even saying goodbye. You two idiots gave nobody any idea of which direction you had gone.
You didn't spend all morning packing up, and announce you were leaving… and then try to talk me out of following you, like you'd done so many times before. Oh no!
Instead, you sneaked out and left behind my back! You didn't give me any opportunity to choose whether I might want to follow you or not.
When I recovered from my hangover, I was furious. I'd promised to help Luida with a few things, so I couldn't leave that morning. But I told Milly to pack up, so that we could leave as soon as our other obligations were fulfilled.
That Luida, she has some nerve. When I told her that we were leaving, she had the audacity to say, "Vash's destiny is much bigger than any one of us. Jessica hasn't learned this yet. I hope she didn't annoy you too much, with the way she prattles on regarding all of her many daydreams about him. I also hope that nobody else will try to limit Vash, or restrain him, as she would. He must be free to be, and do, all that he needs to. Fare well on your journeys."
Milly made it worse, by giggling and looking at me. I know when I'm being lectured, and that woman had no right! Who does she think she is, anyway? I can see that she's a few years older than I am, but that doesn't mean she gets to act as if she's my mother!
I didn't like what she was hinting at, either. Apparently, she doesn't think that I'm good enough for you. So she was trying to talk me out of following you. Well, that's not going to happen!
I've traveled with you for months, while Luida was sitting comfortably at home in her isolated village. By now, I know you far better than she ever will.
Hmmph. Some people!
I led Milly to the nearest town, where we obtained a car. We started driving around, knowing that you couldn't have gotten too far on foot.
And I was right! Milly was driving when we passed you. Wolfwood was standing, but you were down on the ground. Did you two have a disagreement? Did he, perhaps, knock you down and humble you? Serves you right, for running out on me like that!
I took a drink from my canteen as we drove past, and saw the two of you turn our direction. I laughed as you both ran after us. Can't run alongside a car the way you can run beside a Thomas, eh?
This time, it's your turn to follow me!

I booked a room in the nearest town, and began waiting. I expected you'd arrive, with Wolfwood, by sundown.
But you didn't.
Neither of you showed up the next day, either.
Finally, I took Milly and we went looking for you. We found the two of you collapsed in the desert, about halfway between where I'd seen you before and the outskirts of the town.
We both had to work at it, but we finally got the two of you loaded into the car. Milly picked up your bag and Wolfwood's cross. Then we took you back to the town where we were staying, and to the hospital there.
I can't begin to describe how I felt when the doctor said, "They're really lucky that you came and brought them here. We almost lost them."
You didn't even bother to refill your water supply before you left the Seeds village, did you? What could possibly have made you leave like that, in such a big hurry to go away that you didn't even take enough water?
You broom-headed idiot! That's such a stupid reason to nearly die.
I'm sure that Milly would never forgive you for killing Wolfwood that way, either. I wouldn't let her.
Fortunately for you, the doctor says you'll recover. So I'll stay nearby, and get you a few treats now and then while you recover. Maybe you'll become so grateful that you'll finally quit trying to run away from me!
