For the following days, the students and professors of Beacon went about their days as usual. Students would begrudgingly head to class, while the professors thought of the upcoming class plans for the next few days. It wasn't until Professor Port's class, did anything out of the ordinary happen.
"Alright class, today we will witness one of your fellow classmates battle against the Grimm of the day! Instead of the usual pickings, I will have you all attempt to guess what kind of Grimm we will be having in class today. Now, take out a sheet of paper and write down your guesses."
The classroom was soon filled with the sounds of rustling paper and the scratching of pen and pencils. A few minutes later, everyone had handed in their answers to Professor Port who was swiftly going through them.
"Ahem." All eyes were on the short man. "It seems as if we have a tie!"
No one seemed surprised since the man didn't exactly bring a variety of Grimm into class lessons. But that's where the normalness of Beacon took a turn down an abandoned path.
"With the permission of Professor Ozpin, and allowing him to view in on today's class," Everyone looked to the far corner at the front of the classroom to see the man sitting calmly in a chair, sipping from his ever present mug. "I was able to get a Grimm that we have yet to discuss or battle against in class."
Allowing the students to have this piece of information sink into their heads, a rather large cage was brought into the front of the class.
"Would Miss Ruby Rose and Mr. Cardin Winchester please come forward!"
Ruby skipped next to Professor Port, while Cardin made his way up to the front as well with a smirk on his face. Yang's fiery reluctance of having her precious baby sister fight alongside the cocky idiot, was quickly made quiet as her book loving partner slapped tape onto the blonde's mouth. Weiss could only shake her head at her team mates' childishness, and slightly wondered where the cat faunus had gotten the tape from.
"Now, when things are starting to get too difficult, remember to call out so that either Professor Ozpin or I can step in."
Cardin only rolled his eyes as he brought out his mace, Ruby only grinned excitedly as she brought out Crescent Rose.
"Ah that's what I forgot." The both of them, as well as the rest of the class looked at Professor Port. "You will be fighting this particular Grimm without the help of your weapons."
Silence filled the room as both Cardin and Ruby reluctantly handed over their beloved weapons. Although Ruby's tears seemed to set their reluctance apart.
"Now, when I say begin, the Grimm will be let out, and then it's all up to you two to bring it down." Eyeing both of his students for any questions, Port nodded his head once before standing next to Ozpin.
"Begin!"
Not even a second after the word left Port's mouth did the Grimm show itself. Even though both Cardin and Ruby had managed to guess correctly, they still were unprepared for the real thing.
"Please tell me that you are joking." Cardin couldn't help but growl out.
"It's so…cute." Ruby was too shocked for any other response.
Not a moment later, the baby Beowolf grew five times its size, towering over the two students.
"Never mind, I take that back. It's not cute, it's cool…and scary."
"Shut it Rose and run!"
Ruby didn't take long to follow Cardin's orders, she felt helpless without her Crescent Rose, as did Cardin without his mace.
"Got any plans Cardin?" Ruby called out, barely dodged sharp claws.
"At the moment? I just want to keep myself from getting torn to pieces!" Cardin yelled out as he back flipped onto the cage, out of the Beowolf's sight.
"If only I had Crescent Rose, this would be so much more easier." Ruby complained as she continued her dance of dodging the now irritated Beowolf.
Meanwhile, the students and the two professors watched as both Cardin and Ruby tried to figure out a way to take down the Beowolf, without the use of their weapons.
"Damn it." Yang swore as she gripped her pencil tightly.
"Poor Ruby, she seems lost without Crescent Rose." Nora chimed.
But Yang was too focused on her sister's increasing distress to hear Nora. In her mind she could only think of the worst possible outcomes this could cause.
"Damn it." The yellow haired huntress in training swore once again.
"You alright Yang?" Blake questioned her partner, worry in her gaze.
"I have no idea why the hell Ozpin agreed to have their weapons taken away." Yang growled.
"What do you mean? Ruby will be fine, she usually is." Weiss sniffed. "Besides, what's the worst that could happen?"
A deep, yet slightly feminine sounding growl interrupted the group's conversation. Everyone looked to where Ruby was, her head was down and she was backed right up against the wall. The professors stood up, ready to jump in, but what made everyone freeze was the same growl being heard throughout the classroom.
"Ruby." Yang stood up, ready to make her way to her sister.
Ruby's head still hung low and her body was shaking. Yang could only hope that nothing bad would happen, but she knew it was only wishful thinking. She knew what was going to happen next, and she would be too late to stop it.
A pained sound came from Ruby as she slid to the floor the Beowolf let out a low whimper. Silence rung out in the classroom as everyone waited with baited breath.
"Hey Red!" Yang turned to look at Cardin, who was still on top of the Beowolf's cage. She had completely forgotten that the boy was also going against the Grimm. But it seemed as if she wasn't the only one who had forgotten.
A pained howl captured Yang's attention as she, and the rest of the class, focused on Ruby and the Beowolf. Eyes widening, Yang let out a small gasp. Standing in front of Ruby was the smaller version of the Beowolf, like it was before. But what really caught her attention, and luckily no one else's, was her sister's eyes. Her eyes, which were once a beautiful silver color, was now a deep grey with specks of red. And her grin showed fangs that were not there before. Tired of waiting, Yang jumped over her desk and grabbed Ruby and pulled her to her chest. Blocking anyone from seeing her sister's unusual change.
Yang did not pay attention as Professor Port and Professor Ozpin put the Grimm back in its cage, while Cardin hopped down. She only paid attention to her sister who now lay limp in her arms.
That was way too close. Was Yang's only thought as she carried her sister to their room. Blake and Weiss following behind as Professor Port dismissed the class, worry for their leader who looked very pale at the moment.
