Author's note: Here's a very short bit that I decided to do in Tom's perspective. Like I said this is all sort of a teaser until I get enough feedback that makes me feel like this is worth pushing forward with. :) Please let me know what you think. Longer chapters are to follow, but I likely won't post for another week or two unless I get sufficient feedback. Lately I really feel like no one is reading, and I'm just writing for myself. :P I do very much enjoy writing these, I would just love to know what everyone thinks.

I waited impatiently for headmaster Dippet to finish his annoyingly long speech. Soon he would be announcing the choices of the prefects this year and as trivial as it was to me, it did give me power over the others, something that pleased me greatly.
That's when I noticed the girl leaving, she simply walked out in the middle of the Headmaster's speech looking both annoyed and eager. I recognized her as Marilyn Taylor, my fellow sixth year Slytherin. I racked my brain for some kind of memory or knowledge of her and came up with nothing. She really slipped under everyone's radar, which could only mean one thing: she had something to hide. A million eyes followed her as she left the Great Hall, though she didn't seem to notice or care at all.
"And now the time has come for me to announce this year's prefects. Please stand when I call your names," said Headmaster Dippet, effectively tearing me away from my thoughts," Samantha Earling and Peter Larson, Gryffindor." There was a round of applause, to which I smirked, if the Gryffindor nobodies were getting applause, I could only imagine what praise I would receive.
"Margret Dawson and Eric Lore, Hufflepuff," - more applause. I was already getting weary of being in the Great Hall and wished that he would just get on with it. "Ramona Oliver and Travis Reyes, Ravenclaw."
I watched the smug Ravenclaws get to their feet, and waited with both boredom and slight anticipation to hear my own name.
"Marilyn Taylor and Tom Riddle, Slytherin!" said the headmaster merrily," Now I trust that you shall all obey the prefects and heads of houses-"
I tuned out the headmaster, that girl was made prefect and she didn't even care to stay while it was announced to the school. That was very unlike a Slytherin and only furthered my suspicion. I left my place at the Slytherin table and left the Great Hall, perhaps if I was quick enough I could catch up to her and see what she was up to. I caught a glimpse of her rounding a corner on the second floor and followed her up to the library. It was only our first day back, there hadn't been any time for any homework to be assigned.
I felt like such a fool peering at her from behind a bookshelf, stooping to such things was not what I was accustomed to. She walked to the end of a row very eager to get a hold of something and when she passed me again I could see that she had found a book. I grew frustrated with myself, this girl was nothing important, she was just in the library for a read. And then I saw the title. What could she possibly need with a book on how to create your own spells?
I stepped out from behind the bookshelf and cleared my throat," Miss Taylor, Headmaster Dippet has asked me to inform you that we have prefect duties to perform tonight."
