Summary: [RoyEd] Follow the years as Roy and Edward's friendship slowly shifts to something more.

In the two years that followed the two things that he clung to was his hope and Roy's words.

Hope that he could fix his brother and the promise from Roy that he could help him find a way.

That hope lingered in his heart spurring him on in the moments that he thought he couldn't go on any longer. When the pain of the new limbs attached to his body became too much all he had to do was look at his brother. The brother that no longer had a body and his promise that he would restore that body and the hope that Roy had given him for that promise to be fulfilled.

He could admit to himself - only to himself though - that due to Roy Mustang's words he had had his hope restored and in his mind he became something more than just a man, he became a goal. His goal soon turned to become like Roy Mustang, if he was like Roy he knew he would be able to return his brothers body.

After the agonizing pain had subsided and he was able to move the heavy weights that were now his limbs. He began to use his body again. For a normal 11 year old boy the recovery would have taken years, yet he improved quickly. He looked at his brother, the suit of armour that would never be able to show emotion ever again. It didn't matter that Ed couldn't see what his brother was thinking, their bond was too strong and he knew that he was suffering.

Roy.

He needed Roy Mustang, and so he strove on and continued to train with his brother and was rewarded when he, once again, could perform Alchemy. Roy Mustang was whom he thought of instantly after every time he saw his brother. Soon the thoughts of Roy came at exactly the same moment as he looked at Al, like they were joined together. A problem and a solution, he would think of Roy like someone that would be able to fix his younger suffering brother. Roy was a man that had saved Edward and would do it again. He wasn't only a dog of the military, he was a saviour. He was his idol.

Roy Mustang was who he needed, who he wanted to be.

Surely, there could be no other person more deserving of Edward's respect than Roy Mustang?
