A/N: Hi again. The disclaimer from the previous chapter still applies. Now we are going to look into the relationships; or more likely, the love triangles. Picture some dramatic music everybody.
The Love Triangles:
A girl must choose between her best friend and a stalker, who for some reason are her only options for a date, and does something highly dangerous during that time...
Okay, there are two things I can say about that sentence. One: Gale and Jacob are the best friends and, for ordinary human and sane relationships, are the best ones to go for. I get it that Peeta is meant to be nice and all, but there is only one word to describe 'watch you walk home every day' and it is not perfect-boyfriend (I added the dash to make that one word too). Edward: don't get me started on Edward. He's Captain Stalker, and I wouldn't be surprised that for parody's sake that was his actual last name before he changed it to Cullen.
Two: Both stories have their respective dangers. Twilight could easily have been about vampire wars just as much as the Hunger Games was about a war between the districts and the oppressive Capitol (or, if you just read the first one, between Katniss and those naughty Career tributes who dared to do what she did and volunteer. If this is the case, spoilers in previous sentences). The major difference is that the Hunger Games is not just about the romance, but that might just be because Katniss is a stronger character than Bella, and cannot be controlled by Peeta like Bella is often controlled by Edward.
Just imagine if it was swapped. Katniss suddenly gets teleported to the land of vampires (also known as Forks) like I read in some very bad fanfiction at some point, and Bella ends up in the Hunger Games. Bella goes all angsty and gets killed off in the bloodbath, and Katniss ends up being killed by Laurent coz she's hunting in the woods and she isn't friends with werewolfs so they see no need to rescue her (cough… all those other people killed by vamps… cough), as humans don't stand a chance in the world of Stephanie Meyer.
Where were we? Oh yeah, right, love triangles. If you notice something about both the above love triangles, it's that none of them are really love triangles. We all know who the girl is going to end up with, and nobody even tries to pretend otherwise. Hint: it's the boy who is the love interest in the first book. The result is something which feels like pages upon pages of filler chapters taking away from actual action. Following the pattern:
Book 2: The girl realizes her best friend wants her more than just a best friend. They kiss (as far as I can remember), and the 'conflict is added'.
Book 3: Oh no, massive conflict. Katniss has to choose between Peeta and Gale, and Bella has to choose between Edward and Jacob. At the end of each she would have made her choice, as there is no real Jacob drama in Breaking Dawn apart from the creepy Jacob/Renesmee thing.
Perfect. Those are clearly well thought out, unique, and individual stories in their own right which have absolutely nothing in common. Now forget what you have read in this chapter and the last one so you can vaguely believe that.
A/N: This is only really a story which is updated very occasionally, but I felt like updating. There will probably be more comparisons whenever I feel like it. Please review and don't forget to check out my other stories, especially the parodies, which are on my profile. :)
