Romeo And Cinderella ~ A Fairy Tale Untold

Chapter 2: Len Knows

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• ••••••••••••••••••••••

No! Len couldn't stop there! How did he even find where I live? Wait, he might not know this is where I live. He might even be heading to the house next door! I calmed myself down at the thought but carried on watching to see him get off his bike and walk up to our front door. Crap! He slowly reached up.

Ding! Dong!

No. No. No. Haku, don't answer. DON'T ANSWER!

The door soon opened to reveal Haku wearing her maid outfit and her beautiful, silver-white hair tied up in a bun. "Can I help you?" she asked in her sweet voice. Haku isn't always that sweet. You don't want to see her after a bottle of sake. She goes out drinking with Meiko-sensei on her nights off. You have no idea how awkward it is that your maid and teacher are drinking buddies.

"Yes," replied Len confidently. "Does Rin Kagami live her?"

Shoooooooooooooooooooooot. I'm screwed.

"Who might you be?" Haku asked with a raised eyebrow.

"I'm Kagamine Len, Rin's friend from school," Len answered.

Haku crossed her arms. "Do you have an appointment?"

"An a-apointment?!" Len said in disbelief and started to lose his cool. "N-no..."

"Then, I'm sorry. The Master and Mistress are out at the moment so they can't judge whether you are fit to enter and see Miss Rin. Even if they were here, I'd probably have to send you away anyway. Good day, young man." With that she shut the door in Len's face.

Part of me relaxed but then I gasped. Len was now walking around the house. Idiot! If he got caught he'd be in so much trouble! Wait...if he was walking around into the garden, doesn't that mean he'd see me up on my balcony? I spun around quickly to go back inside but got my leg caught around the black chair and ended up crashing into the window.

"Rin? Is that you?" asked Len who I assumed was now down below.

There was no point hiding now. I was in plain sight. I turned around, bent over the railings to see him better and said, "Oh, hey L-Len! What are you d-doing here?"

"Actually, I want to know what you're doing here," Len said with crossed arms and his foot tapping. "Could you maybe come down?"

I gulped. There was no way I'd be able to get down there. Haku would hear me coming down the stairs and I wasn't exactly going to jump. I'd been bruised enough that day. "I c-can't."

"Fine," said Len. I smiled and let out a relieved sigh. "I'll just have to come up!"

"E-EH?!"

Len pulled up his sleeves slightly and grabbed ahold of one of the pillars holding the balcony up. He tried pulling himself up and got a grip with his feet. He'd only made it about a foot up when he started to slide down. Cursing under his breath, he looked around to look for another way up. There was a big oak tree nearby with lots of branches sticking out. He ran over to it, hoisted himself up and began making his way up the tree. It wasn't long before he was level with me and reached his leg over onto the balcony railings. He pushed himself over and before I knew it, I was looking onto his bright, blue eyes.

"Ha!" he exclaimed with a satisfied smile but it quickly disappeared with a look of concern. "You're head, I would've thought you'd have cleaned it by now."

I remembered my head was injured and mentally scolded myself for forgetting. "O-oh yeah, I was a-about to!" I stuttered and rubbed the back of my head.

Len shook his head and sighed but then he got a closer look at me and his eyes widened. He lifted his hand up to my face and gently brushed his finger past the area below my eye. He brought his hand away and looked at the glistening liquid upon his knuckle. A tear.

"Rin?" Len said quietly, eyebrows tilted.

"Len," I replied, my voice cracking. I could feel more tears forming.

"Let's sit down. I want you to tell me what the heck is going on," Len said seriously and looked around for a seat. He spotted the swing chair and sat down. He patted the spot beside him. I cautiously walked over and placed myself down. That was the first time in ages I'd sat in that chair.

"Rin, you look like you're gonna break down any second," Len said softly and shifted slightly.

Why did he have to say that? Why did he have to say that?!

The tears started to spill uncontrollably and I couldn't see a thing. I took in a big, shaky breath before I lost it and started to wail again. I brought my fists to my puffy eyes and choked out, "S-sor-sorry!"

I felt something rest on my shoulder, then my neck, then my back. I looked through my fists and saw that Len was reaching out. He had his arm rested awkwardly on my back and his face was a light pink.

"D-don't cry," he said, uncertainty in his tone. He bit his lip and added, "You're too pretty to cry."

"What?!" I exclaimed. What the hell?!

"You heard," he said, a smile now appearing on his lips, "you're pretty. You shouldn't spoil it by crying."

My face burned from his comment. Why was I suddenly feeling so warm? It was a sensation I'd never felt before in my life. I couldn't believe he'd said that. I told you before, didn't I? I'm ugly and I still haven't lost my childish features. Nonetheless, I sniffed and rubbed my eyes.

"That's better," said Len with a grin. "Now, please tell me what the heck is going on."

After that...after him seeing me break down...I couldn't not tell him. He'd be pestering me even more than before. So, I did. I told him all about my parents and how I'm basically a prisoner with luxuries. I explained how I was ashamed. I couldn't tell what he was thinking, he didn't show much emotion on his face.

"So, that's pretty much it," I finished with a sniff.

"I see..." said Len. "So why didn't you tell me this before? I really wanted to know!"

"Y-you're mad?" I panicked, my voice cracking again.

"Wah...? NO! DON'T CRY AGAIN!" Len panicked and waved his hands madly in front of his chest. "I'm not mad, just...annoyed," he sighed.

"How come?" I asked.

Len averted eye contact. "I really wanted to know where you were." He looked down at his hands and started fiddling with his black uniform sleeve. "I wanted to hang out." He sighed and looked back up at me. "I wanted to get to know you better."

There was something seriously wrong with this boy. Why'd he want to get to know me? I'm about the most BORING person on the planet. What's interesting about me? Let's see...I like fairy tales? Oh, how very grown up and interesting! Geez, I wonder why on earth Len wanted to get close to me.

"And what about Miku?" he added with a hint of venom in his voice. "Why didn't you let me help?"

I scowled at the mention of her name and said, "I wanted to sort her out myself. I could handle her!"

"Well, obviously you couldn't," Len replied with a roll off his eyes. Things stayed quiet for a moment. "So...please. Can't I see you after school more?" he pleaded. His eyes almost seemed begging.

"I can't," I groaned, "cause remember, my parents don't let me out. Don't give me that look! They'd never let anyone come over."

"Grr," growled Len and he rubbed his forehead. He sounded pissed. "Fine, but promise me something, ok?"

For some reason I was scared. "What?"

"You know the lunches I spend by myself? I'm under the sakura tree at the back of the school. From now on, you're joining me there. No exceptions," ordered Len with narrowed eyes.

"Controlling, much?" I said and crossed my arms with a pout. "But I guess I will."

Len smiled slightly. "Good. Now, let's sort your cut out." He stood up and walked over to the windows.

"OI!" I snapped. "I told you, you can't go in!"

Len smirked and replied, "Tough. I seriously doubt anyone will come into your room in the next ten minutes. You just don't want a boy in your room, right?"

I felt my face heat up again. "What?!"

"Oooh, I know. I bet you have loads of secret hentei stashed away! You're scared I'll find it!" he snickered with a mischievous grin.

"LEN!" I shrieked. Why do all boys have something perverted about them? He opened the windows and walked in. I quickly stood up and ran after him exclaiming, "Len, Stop!"

"Whoa," said Len in amazement as he gazed around my room. Being wealthy, it is rather large with lots of posh furniture. My bed is massive and oval shaped, taking up most of the room. There's a small grandfather clock in the corner, multiple pictures of me as a child around the room and I have a cream coloured floor. My walls are blue but they're decorated with paintings of fairy tale characters when I'm bored. There was Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, so many.

"Someone's artistic," praised Len. He wandered over to my bookshelf and I cringed as he read out the titles. "Little Red riding Hood, The Princess and the Frog, Snow White," he read with a grin.

"I like fairy tales... I know, I'm a baby. Stop rubbing it in!" I whined and looked to the side.

"You're not," he said and walked over to me. "Personally, I'm glad I found this as your bedroom. I've only known girls to have posters of their teenage idols plastered everywhere, gossip magazines and make up everywhere!"

"You mean," I said in disbelief, "you've been in multiple girls' bedrooms before?!"

"Oh, how nice it'd be to make you think that," Len joked. "But no, I've got two elder sisters so I was picturing your room to look like theirs. Now, let's get you sorted... COOL! YOU'VE GOT YOUR OWN BATHROOM!" With that, he dashed into my private bathroom.

"I followed him. He was looking around in awe. "Why are you so impressed by a bathroom?" I sighed and shook my head.

"We're a family of five. Me, dad, mum and my two sisters and we share one bathroom. Geez, it's so annoying in the mornings!" he chuckled and looked around some more. I must admit, my bathroom's pretty big. I suddenly started to panic when I realised something. Only I ever use this bathroom and I'm a girl. I spotted a box of tampons in the corner and died a little. Don't look over there. DON'T LOOK OVER THERE!

"Let's see, you must have something to sort your head out in here," muttered Len as he opened up a cabinet. He searched around for a moment before he cried, "Aha!" and brought out a first aid kit. I knew it was in there but I'd never needed it before.

"Sit down then," Len ordered and patted a laundry basket just to the side. "I'll do it."

I gulped and shuffled over to the basket. I hoisted myself up and waited patiently as Len searched through the first aid kit for everything he needed. With some kind of wipe, he reached up to my cut and started to gently clean it.

"It's not actually that big. The blood made it look worse than it is," he explained. At least that was something to be relieved about.

Next, Len brought out a small disinfectant spray. "It's gonna sting a little," he warned before spraying the substance on my cut. I flinched and bit my lip hard. It hurt like hell! I'd bitten a bit too hard and I'd drawn blood. "You idiot!" cried Len.

"Well, sorry," I grumbled. "It kills."

Len gave a 'humph' and put down the spray. He then pulled out a bandage and put it in place on my head. "There," he said with a satisfied smile. But instead of putting everything away, he got out another wipe, bent down a bit and started to wipe the fresh blood from my lips. I blushed hard again. Why did I keep on blushing?!

Suddenly, he stopped and stared at my lips. I couldn't read his expression but it sure was a weird one. He shook his head slightly, probably realising what he was doing, gave a final wipe and then disposed of it in a small bin beside the washing basket I was perched on. I slid off the basket. That was probably the most awkward five minutes of my life.

I took a look in the mirror hanging on the wall. Luckily, my bangs hid the bandage and it wasn't obvious unless you looked really hard. Len looked at his watch. "Shoot! Dinner was half an hour ago! My dad is gonna be angry..."

We walked out of my bathroom and made our way across my bedroom, back to the window. On the way, I asked, "How do you know how to clean wounds and stuff? I wouldn't have had a clue."

"Uh, I just can, alright?" he said, not bothering to look at me. He was definitely hiding something but I decided to let it pass.

Something else suddenly dawned upon me. "Hey, how the hell did you find out where I live in the first place?!"

Len smiled smugly. "Simple. I followed your car here."

The stalker!

We went back outside and Len climbed up onto the railings. "O-Oi! I gasped. "Don't hurt yourself, now!"

He looked back at me, held up his right hand in a peace sign and said, "Laters, Rin!" He hopped back onto the tree and swung himself down like a monkey. He waved up to me one last time, ran back around the side of the house, jumped on his white bike he'd hidden behind a bush and started to pedal down the road.

I leant on the railings, resting my head in my palm as I watched him slowly disappear into the evening. Well, that sure was a startling visit. So much had changed! Len now knew all about my parents, where I disappeared to everyday and now I had to join him at lunch. Geez, there's only so much a girl can take in one day!

It wasn't long before I saw a posh, black car pull up in front of the house. My parents were home. I yawned and stretched. It wouldn't be long before Haku called me for dinner. Haku's brilliant. She cooks, cleans, and helped to bring me up. Even though she doesn't let me outside, sometimes I'm allowed to help her in the kitchen when she's making a cake or pudding. I enjoy making sweet things.

"Miss Rin!" called Haku from downstairs. "Dinner time!"

I went indoors but noticed I was still in my school uniform. My parents wouldn't like that! I sighed when I looked into my wardrobe. Most of my clothes are something an eight year old would want to wear. I quickly changed into something more casual, jeans and one of my favourite orange jumpers. It was one of the few outfits I actually liked.

I rushed downstairs, swung around the banister like I always do and walked into the dining room. My parents were already seated, eating their meal. I walked over and sat down. Today was beef stew. I picked up the correct utensil but then I spotted something. Leeks. Yuck. They really aren't my thing.

"So, Rin," said my mother, "did you have a good day at school?"

"Yes, mama. My day was normal," I replied as I carefully avoided a leak and sipped my stew.

"Any problems?" asked my father with raised eyebrows.

"All is fine, papa," I said and smiled. There was no way I was going to tell them what happened for reasons I've already explained. And worse, if they knew Len had been in my room then...bloody hell, I don't know what they'd do!

The rest of dinner was silent. I mentioned before that my parents don't talk to me much, didn't I? When finished, I stood up, nodded my head to my parents and walked out of the dining room. However, I was quickly dragged off into the corner of the hallway by someone. It was Haku.

"Listen, Rin," whispered Haku. "I don't know if you heard but a boy came over earlier. He was looking for you. His name was Len Kagamine. Do you know him?"

I pretended to act surprised. "Really? Len's a friend from school."

Haku cupped her chin in thought. "Hmm, well he seemed awfully eager to see you. Are you dating?"

"W-WHAT? NO!" I cried. "JUST FRIENDS!"

"Shh, keep it down!" whisper-shouted Haku and she put her hands on my shoulders. "It was only a question. Did you tell him where you lived?"

I decided I'd cover Len on this one. "I kinda told him earlier without realising. It was an accident! I haven't told anyone else!"

"I see," sighed Haku. "Just make sure he doesn't come around again. You were lucky your parents were out. I'm not going to tell them but if he arrives again, I'll have to think again."

I gulped and nodded. Haku then walked off and I quickly darted up the stairs, back into my room. I looked at my clock. 8:30. Whoa, the evening had gone quickly! I sat on my bed and lay back. My mind was racing and I felt exhausted. I reminded myself it would be wise telling Len not to come around again. We'd both me in deep trouble if he got caught.

I let out a big yawn. I didn't realise before how tired I was. I knew I had homework and I was still in my clothes but I couldn't bring myself to get up. My eyelids slowly started to close.

The last thing I remembered was images of Len drifting around my head.

And that's it for now! I know, there's A LOT of speech in this chapter. Sorry if it annoyed you. XS And for those of you that might have spotted this is a day late, I'm sorry! I nearly made it, NEARLY! Then I looked at my clock. 11:58 pm. I wasn't going to make it in time anyway so I just left it to the morning (in my time anyway).
