11am.
Elliot's patient has just been admitted. As it stands, even though the risks are high, he is taking a chance and has decided to prioritise the heart surgery over the brain surgery as he thinks that it is that surgery that will give her a better quality of life. But my argument is, yes that is all very well, but then it will not necessarily guarantee an extension of her life because it is a progressive disease and without both operations there is a very high chance she would die anyway due to pressure on her brain.
I wish there was something I could do… Maybe… It would be a very risky procedure as we have never preformed such a high risk operation here before, add to that the fact that I only know of one notable attempt of this type of operation not only in Europe, but in the world, in Germany, and you have a extremely revolutionary piece of surgery that could change the face of Cardio Thorasics forever. If I can pull it off that is…
Imagine Holby could become known the world over as a specialist hospital for these types of procedures and just to think I could be the surgeon who pioneered it all, who took Holby to new heights… Oh pull yourself together woman! Remember this isn't a 'Whose got the biggest ego?' contest; it's about saving peoples' lives in an efficient way by always putting the patients best interests at heart. My idea carries major risks and if I'm honest I'm a bit scared because as well as this concept being new to the patient it is also new to me, saying that it is new to the hospital as a whole. If she decides to go though with the procedure all I will have to base my instincts on will be a bunch of translated notes. This young woman is putting her faith in something that only I have a very limited knowledge of, as she knows this could be her last chance at gaining a promising future for herself, weirdly enough, she wants to be a surgeon. But without these vital operations she has no hope of achieving her dreams. This is her last hope…
