Chapter 2: A New Home
"Servine. How far is your place?" I asked. She sighed.
"I told you, it's not far from here."
"Oh. Ok." We've been walking for who knows how long and there was no sight of a willow nor a lake. I looked up at the sky. Night. Seconds passed and I began to wonder if I had been manipulated. Perhaps her name isn't Servine. Perhaps she's just one of those serpents who-
"Here we are!" she exclaimed, dashing towards a giant willow. I watched her run, feeling guilty about my assumptions. As we headed towards the willow, I noticed a large lake beside the flexible tree with violet lilies dotting the surface sporadically. "It's not much, but I hope you'll feel comfortable." I craned my neck to see a small grassy dome shaped house, concealed by the willows emerald leaves. if she hadn't pointed out the house's location, I would've missed it. The grass growing on the house helped it camouflage. The front door was quite quaint - rounded at the top with a circular window and a rounded golden door knob. There are windows shaped as a circle on both left and right side of the house, presumably the two rooms she mentioned.
"You live here all by yourself?" I asked, stepping into the snug little house. The grassy mat on the floor tickled my toes.
"Yeah, and it does get a little lonely. Sometimes, travelers stop by here for a rest. About an hour though, so I didn't really get the chance to make friends." I heard something clattering. Pots and pans.
"So, you really don't mind me staying?"
"Not at all. Besides, I couldn't just leave someone who needs help." I wandered around the home, entering and leaving rooms, observing all furniture and such. I'm amazed, though the house seems small, the interior is quite grand. On ground floor, there's the kitchen and the two bedrooms, yet downstairs (underground) has a living room, a bathroom, a pantry, and a storage room. In the living room, there's a rounded green carpet at the center, under a large white sofa (you'd expect there to be dirt, but it's surprisingly clean!), an oval shaped table in front of the sofa, and a pokeball shaped (and colored) television. In Pokeworld, pokeballs are used to capture criminals and are considered illegal (except for criminal justice of course), for a pokeball will become one's prison that can last eternally. I shudder to think of what it's like in one of those contraptions. In the Serpent Kingdom though, all water types are considered inferior and are either taken prisoner for slave duties or slaughtered. Samurotts are killed immediately, as they are seen as potential dangers to the Serpents. That's why most of us water types take risks (even deadly ones) to earn everstones, so that we don't evolve. But the tasks...almost no one made it alive. Out of a thousand brave dewotts, only five survives. When doing the math, there is only one out two-hundredth chance of a dewott (or oshawotts, sadly, but as far as I know, they couldn't last a few minutes) to make it out with a beating heart. Shaking the gory images out of my head, I wandered to the bedroom on the left side of the front door. Sunlight sparkled though the round window and illuminated the room. There was a bed, fit for a huge pokemon ( a pignite's size I'd say, and they are pretty large). On top of the mattress was a soft looking pillow, a soft blue blanket (made from mareep's wool, by using rubber gloves and shears), and a small plush doll of some sort that looks like a box with big blue eyes and little hands attached to its body with thin black lines. Beside the bed laid a small rounded desk with a raichu lamp on top (you pull the tail to turn on and off the lamp). To the far left of the room lays a wooden rectangular desk and a comfy chair. Of course, I didn't enter the other bedroom, since it's impolite to enter it without consent. A scent of something sweet filled the hallway. Sweet scent? Who knows. I entered the kitchen to see Servine placing two plates of pink poffins on the table. Yum.
"Sweet poffins?"
"Yep. I could only find pecha berries around this area, so is it fine with you?" I nodded. Thankfully, I have my mother's love for sweets. I sat down opposite of her seat as she placed a plateful of sweet poffins on my plate. The warmth and scent of the poffins enveloped me. "I hope you like it. If you're thirsty, there's the water pitcher on the counter." I nodded, and took a bite out of one of the poffins. Mmm. The poffin is so sweet and so soft. It takes just like Mama's cooking. The outer shell of a poffin gives it a slight crunch, but underneath it is a texture of fluffy clouds. After I devoured the first poffin, I got up, poured both of us a glass of water, sat down, and continued eating. After our meal, I cleaned the table and washed the dishes (though she protested, saying that she should do it but gave up due to my stubbornness).
"Well, since the dishes are done, what's next?" I asked, putting the hand towel back on its hanger. Servine shrugged.
"Honestly, I don't know. Do you want to watch a movie?"
"Sure. It's been a while since I had last seen TV." With that, Servine trotted down the wooden steps into the living room. I followed.
"Which movie would you like to see?" I shook my head.
"Anything you want, I'm fine with it." She gave me a small smile and picked the movie starring five young humans and some sort of huggable-looking robot with a facial expression like this: (o-o)
"I think you'll like this." I smiled. It's sweet when someone thinks of you and tries to make you happy. A moment to relish. Once she inserted the disc into the pokeball television, she plopped down right next to me on the sofa and handed me a box of yellow, crunchy looking puffballs. "Popcorn. Tell me if there's not enough butter and I'll go get some."
"Yeah. Thanks."
Couple hours later...
Once the movie ended, I tried to get up. For some reason, it was hard to get up. Sleepy legs? I looked down. Servine was fast asleep, her head resting on my lap. Oh. I quietly placed the empty popcorn bucket (yes soldier, a bucket!) on the oval table and lifted Servine's head, gingerly. After getting off of the sofa, I slipped my paws under Servine (one to support her head and the other holding her lower back) and carried her upstairs into her room. To be honest, it wasn't that easy, lifting someone up the stairs while trying to make sure you don't bump their head on anything and trying to get a door open when both of your paws are occupied. Luckily, I succeeded without making her stir. I gently laid her on her bed and covered her with her soft green blanket. For a moment, I hesitated, wondering if I should kiss her forehead. I mean, it's usually what people do, but at the same time, it's weird for me, since I had only met her for (looks at clock) about fourteen hours. Well, standing around in her room doing absolutely nothing is going to offer no answer, so get a move on. I sighed and left, slowly closing the door. Then, I froze before fully closing the door shut. I quickly reopened the door, tiptoed in, kissed Servine's forehead, and left to my room. A snooze should help me prepare for tomorrow.
