Chapter 1

"So, how's the confessing going along?" A short boy with black hair and brown eyes asked his friend who was tall, muscular, had long black hair, and wore cracked sunglasses which hid his blue eyes.

"It is going along very horribly, I am sad to say..." The tall boy said with a slight sigh, as he let his gaze go to the ceiling in the small room that the two are in.

"Oh, I'm sorry dude…" The short boy said and his tall friend looked down to him, and patted his head and he looked up at him.

"No need to apologize, I am the reason that she has yet to know that I am in love with her." His tall friend said and the short boy gave him one of his rare smiles.

"You know that I can help you, right Equius?" The short boy said

"Yes I am perfectly aware, but I am not asking you for the help KarKat. I am simply trying to do it myself." Equius said getting up from his seat, and fixing his shirt.

KarKat sighed and rolled his eyes "I have to go fall flat on my fucking ass some more now?" He said as he grabbed his hockey stick.

A small smile quirked at Equius' lips "You are not bad at hockey or skating. I would hope that you know of that."

"Yeah, yeah I know, but I fall flat on my ass every start of the game because it takes a while to get adjusted to the god damned ice." KarKat said getting up and being careful not to trip over his skates.

"And that is something I admire about you. You are an excellent player with small adjustment issues." Equius said and KarKat hit Equius with his hockey stick slightly.

"You are so stupidly annoying, but you are a great friend. I promise that wasn't sarcasm" KarKat said as they exited the small room to go to the ice rink.

"Well good luck with practice, I will be watching." Equius said as he went to his usual seat at the top.

"Go take a seat you fucking stalker." KarKat said as he skated on the ice and nearly falling several times.

Later after practice KarKat met Equius outside and had begun talking to him when his cell phone chimed "How fan-fucking-tastic, looks like I'm walking home." KarKat said not really caring about his situation.

"Would you like a ride?" Equius asked, and turned to look at KarKat who let his bag full of his hockey clothes drop to the ground.

"Sure, I don't care" KarKat said, shoving his phone back into his pocket, after sending his grandmother an 'OKAY'.

"Hello boys!" A voice chimed, and both KarKat and Equius turned around to see who was speaking to them.

"Hello father" Equius said, and KarKat could have sworn he saw him stand to attention. It was like he was a soldier or something.

"Hey Coach Z" KarKat said, and Equius' dad patted the two boys on the shoulder.

"Good job at practice KarKat" He said with a big smile. KarKat looked at the man's smile, Equius hardly ever did that, but Equius' dad seemed to just be happy all the time. He could never remember seeing the man frown once. It kinda weirded him out in all honesty.

"Thanks coach" KarKat said and gave a small smile. It was hard to see, but Coach Z could see it like always. KarKat then remembered that he needed to ask permission for a he didn't have to, but it was always polite. "Mind if I ask for a ride Sir?" He said.

"Not at all, hop in" Coach Z said, unlocking the doors to his car and KarKat proceeded to get in the back seat, while the other two were in the front.

Once Equius and his father got into the car they made their way to KarKat's house, which is in the country. KarKat usually got bored in such a quiet place, but he always enjoyed it all at the same time. He lived with his grandmother in a small house, but the land was pretty huge, and KarKat would say that his life was pretty decent. His grandmother though, made it the most enjoyable place believe it or not.

"So KarKat, how's school?" Coach Z asked.

"Good, it just gets really boring a lot of the time." KarKat responded giving a grunt, and Coach Z chuckled.

"But we all know that every teenager gets bored with school." He said

"You can say that again" KarKat said rolling his eyes.

"I guess I could" Coach Z said and they all gave a laugh. KarKat gave a smile at him, his coach was like a second father to him, and Equius was like a brother, he felt like he had a family when he was with him. That didn't mean he didn't care for his grandmother, he loved her to pieces. She was like a second mother, and ever since that day the three had been his life.

Once they pulled into KarKat's driveway they all said their goodbyes, and KarKat walked into his house waving one last time at his friend and his coach.

"He…Hmmm he seemed a little distant from me today." Coach Z said rubbing the back of his neck as he thought about the events during practice.

"What did he do exactly?" Equius asked looking to his father, who was trying to keep his smile but failing.

"Well one, he would seem a little down even though he was doing wonderfully. I asked him what was wrong and just said it was nothing so I didn't push him for that, because I could understand. But the second he starts getting upset about knocking into other players and I ask him if he's fine he says it's nothing, which made me a little concerned." His father said actually frowning for once.

"It's nothing personal, I promise. It's just a little problem he has" Equius said looking toward the fornt door to the shorter boy's home.

"What kind?" His father asked.

"He has a type of OCD, pretty interesting type of one if I should say." Equius said.

"I see…well hopefully it goes away...somehow." Coach Z said as he pulled out of the driveway.

"As do I dad…"Equius said and they left.

Once KarKat put his bag in his room, he went to the kitchen where his grandmother sat at the table reading "Hey NiNi" He said, (he had always called her that, when he was little he had mispronounced her name and said Nini. Her name was actually Nina.) and she looked up and smiled at him.

"Why hello, welcome home. How was practice?" She asked putting her book down.

"Same as usual" He said and sighed "I gotta do homework" He said and put his hands in his pockets "I'm gonna go to bed afterwards, so good night"

"Oh, well good night sweetie. If you need anything you know you can ask" She said and he smiled at her a bit.

"I know, thanks Nini" He said starting to make his way upstairs.

"Alright, see you tomorrow" She called back as he left.

Once KarKat got into his room, he flopped on his bed and pulled out his phone looking through the contacts. There was his grandmother, Equius, and Mr. Zahhak. He then sighed and tossed his phone somewhere on his bed and stared at the ceiling. He was utterly bored, and even though he wanted to talk to his grandmother, he didn't want to risk anything bad happening to her. Maybe he was just being overly dramatic, but every time he decided to hang with someone something bad happened to them. It's like he's cursed or some shit. That thought aside, KarKat took a look out the window; it looked like it would storm tonight. Not that he minded. The rain is the only thing KarKat is willing to hang around, because it's not like it's alive or anything. He sluggishly sat up on his bed and grabbed his back pack. He began to get his homework out, which consisted of verbs and other easy shit that KarKat knew how to easily do.

When he finished his homework he got up off of his bed and began to change into his pajamas and he crawled under the covers. Maybe something interesting would happen tomorrow, if he was lucky that is. Maybe someone would come along and sweep him off of his feet and love him and stop all of his nervousness, maybe, just maybe, it would happen. KarKat rolled over on his stomach and looked out at the grey clouds hiding the setting sun, he knew it was still early, but he was flat-out tired. Then again he probably still wouldn't fall asleep anyway, he always had trouble with it. He hated how exhausted he was everyday because of it.

For nearly twenty minutes he stared out the window until he finally lay on his back again, now staring up at his ceiling. He let his eyes travel through every little crack of chipped paint, before he finally began to get sleepy and he let his eyes slid close. The minuet they closed though, he began to dream, it wasn't a terrible one, it was actually a very peaceful one. The most peaceful he had ever had since he was in elementary school.

A nice breeze blew; the sun was covering the land that was full of the most beautiful flowers anyone would have ever seen. There stood a short boy smiling, his eyes closed and he loved the feeling of the breeze going through his hair tangling it, and messing it up. Everything seemed so quiet, besides the breeze, and the boy let himself fall on his back into the field of flowers. He then watched the flowers bob their heads as if acknowledging his existence, and the shorter ones seemed to sway in a certain way that they tickled his pale skin, and it made him giggle.

Just as the boy finished giggling he looked up at the sky and he instantly smiled when he saw a face appear in front of him. The face had no eyes, only a nose and smiling mouth. The person had short black hair, and had on some black skinny jeans and yellow shirt. He was also tall compared to the short boy, and he grabbed the short boy's hand, (which the short boy took happily) and they began to dance around. Just as they stopped the tall boy wrapped his arms around the short boy's waist, pulling him into an embrace and whispering words into his ear.

"I love you KarKat"

By that point KarKat had woken up. He gave a yawn and rolled back over on his back,( he had somehow rolled on his stomach) and he grabbed his phone checking the time. 4:30 in the morning. He put his phone back and looked up at his ceiling again and began to think about the dream, it seemed so short, yet it was long. It was a nice dream, but what struck him as something odd was the man who was in the dream. He couldn't recall anyone that looked like that he knew, but he blew it off thinking it was just his imagination. He gave a smile and closed his eyes again, he felt relaxed, and he knew that when he woke up in the morning he would feel refreshed and relaxed.

One step closer

I have died every day waiting for you

Darling don't be afraid

I have love you for a thousand years
