Blood ties chapter 2
Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter
I only own Lavinia Riddle.
Chapter 2
Lavinia struggled to pull her heavy truck, threw the crowded hallway.
"Little firstie, must not remember she can do magic. Maybe she's a squib." The two older boys snickered at Lavinia. Lavinia stopped pulling on her trunk. Lavinia could do magic, she didn't need to hide it anymore.
Lavinia pulled out her wand. The two older boys guffawed loudly again.
"She thinks she can do magic. Little squiby can't do it."
Lavinia remembers the spells she read about.
"Wingardium leviosa." Lavinia swishes and flicks her wand. Her truck floats lightly off the ground. The two older boys stop laughing and watch open mouthed as Lavinia walks the rest of the hallway head high.
Lavinia peers into the compartments. Not seeing any friendly faces.
"Lavinia, there you are. I was looking for you." A booming voice calls from a compartment.
"Rubeus how glad I am to see you. Shall we sit together?" Lavinia smiles at Rubeus. Rubeus grabs Lavinia's trunk and leads her into the compartment. Lavinia sits down. Rubeus places her trunk on a shelf above her.
"Thank you Rubeus that was very kind. How was the rest of your summer?" Lavinia asks.
"Oh great! Me and my Da went fishing. I caught a big one it was at least this big." Rubus holds his hands out about 2 feet and a half. Grinning widely. Lavinia and her new friend talked until a women with a trolley opened the door.
"Anything off the trolley dears?" She asks. Lavinia walks over to her.
"Rubus what's good?" Lavinia asks him.
"Oh uh . . . Cauldron cakes, chocolate frogs, licorice wands, pumpkin juice, oh and my favorite peppermint mice." Rubus tells Lavinia.
"Well I'll take two of all of those things please." Lavinia pays the woman. And sits back down.
"You didn't have to do that." Rubeus's face turning very red.
"We're friends beside I wanted to share. Good food and good company are two things I never pass up." Lavinia hands Rubus a peppermint mouse. Rubus smiles brightly. They ate their treats and chatted with each other.
"And then I brought it home." Rubus finished his story about a phooka.
"Wow my grandparents would never let me do that." Lavinia exclaimed. "It's getting dark perhaps we should change."
"Oh right of course I'll go change in the bathroom." Rubus walks out of the train car.
This is a line break
The train had come to a stop. Rubus and Lavinia stepped off the train. A gruff looking man was calling to all first years.
"First years over here, follow me."
Rubus and Lavinia listened to him.
The man lead them to a lake that had boats floating on it.
"Four to a boat. Four to a boat."
Rubus, Lavinia, a girl with a calm face and a boy with jet black hair sat in a boat.
"I'm Jill Lovegood, and all of you are?" She asks.
"Rubeus Hagrid." Rubus says.
"Lavinia Riddle." Lavinia says.
"Cyrus Black." The other boy says.
They reached the school. It was an amazing sight to behold. Lavinia gasped, the magic surrounding the place was so pure and powerful. The boats came to a stop. Everyone steps out.
"This way, the deputy headmaster will explain." The man pointed at the entrance hall and left.
Albus Dumbledore stood in magenta colored robes.
"Hogwarts is a place for learning. There are four houses, one of which you will join after tonight. Your house is like your family. House points are awarded for good behavior, points are lost and detention assigned for bad behavior. Your house prefects will be able to answer any question you have for later." He claps his hands.
"Now please follow me into the great hall. I will read out your names for your sorting."
The children follow Professor Dumbledore into the great hall.
There are four big tables filled with students. Lavinia looks around nervously.
Dumbledore walks up to the front of the room and grabs a long list and a dirty old patched hat.
The hat starts to sing. Lavinia was so in shock of the talking hat she didn't pay any attention to the song it was singing.
"Black Cyrus." Dumbledore calls out.
Cyrus walks to the stool and sits down. Dumbledore places the hat on his head.
There is several monuments of silence. The hat opens its mouth and shouts.
"Slytherin!"
Cyrus walks over to the green table. His new housemates clapping politely.
Dumbledore calls out few more names.
"Lovegood, Jill."
"Ravenclaw."
"Hagrid Rubeus."
Rubeus stumbles up to the stool and almost misses it.
"Gryffindor!"
Finally after what seemed like forever her name was called.
"Riddle, Lavinia."
All of the chattering stopped, student turned around in their seats to look at her. She nervously walked up to the stool. But didn't like anyone see it. Riddles didn't let anyone see weakness.
She could feel a cold glare on her back she found the stare when she sat on the stool. An older boy, who the spilling image of her father. The hat was dropped onto her head and covered her eyes.
'Well, another Riddle, this is surprising. But not an heir of Slytherin. Hmm . . . where should I put you? Hmm . . . you would do good in Ravenclaw, but I can see your brave, also loyal, and you can be cunning.'
'I'd like to be where I can keep being friends with anyone I want.'
"Hmm . . . Better be Hufflepuff." The hat shouted. A few Slytherin's laughed and whispered about her. Her half brother eyes burned intense holes in her back. She shivered maybe she shouldn't get too close him. She slowly walked to her new table.
"Hello I'm Sarah Bones. I'm the Hufflepuff prefect." She held out her hand.
Lavinia shook it.
"'Ello I'm Evan O'connell we're going to be in the same year." He waved.
"Thank you for welcoming me." She said using the manners her grandmother had drilled into her.
"So are you related to Tom Riddle by any chance?" Three older giggling girls asked her.
"I don't know yet." She answered causally.
"Oh." They turned away
disappointed.
Lavinia ate her food and soon it was time to head the dorms.
Lavinia followed Sarah Bone to the common room. A quick meeting about rules and then Lavinia got ready for bed.
She dreamed of many things, a boy with blood red eyes haunted her dreams that night.
This a line break.
Lavinia was up early then any of her new housemates. She dressed and left to find the great hall. She passed a humped back witch, now sure she was lost.
A hand darted out to grab her.
She could feel her heart wanted to jump out of her chest. She turned to fast her attacker. It was her half brother, Tom. His pale skin and black hair made a striking contrast. Along with his dark icy blue eyes.
"I thought you would want to talk." Lavinia says.
Tom looked her over, accessing her.
"What is your name?" The older boy asked.
"Lavinia Riddle." She tells him.
"And your name is?"
"Tom marvolo Riddle." He narrows his eyes at her.
"I assume your father's name is Tom Riddle too?"
"Yes, and are you Merope Gaunt's son?" Lavinia asks.
He shoves her against a wall.
"How do you know about that?" He roared.
"Maybe we shouldn't talk out here in the open." Lavinia suggests.
Tom gives her an appraising look. He takes her by the arm and drags her to a girls bathroom. He locks the door, Lavinia is a little fearful of being trapped in here alone with him.
"Talk." Tom orders while he fiddles with his wand.
"What do you want to know?"
"Everything." Tom's eyes take on a manic look.
"Merope Gaunt, gave father a drink to make him fall in love with her. And from what I heard she felt bad and stopped giving it to him. Then father woke up no idea where he was and he left Ms. Gaunt. He was terrified and Ms. Gaunt told him she was pregnant but father didn't believe her and he left." She stopped at the look he was giving her. He took a deep breath and wave his hand for her to continue.
"Well when he came home Grandfather was furious. He said that father had a duty to his child and the mother to take care of them. And I think grandfather was worried what people would say if Ms. Gaunt's claim was true and it would make our family look bad if father didn't take responsibility. And grandmother was rather mad too." She took another breath.
"And where do you come in?" He his lip curled in hate.
"Six years later father married an American woman my mother, and then when she was pregnant with me. A villager was bored and decide to stir up trouble by telling everyone that my mother had a great aunt who was hung for being a witch.
Father didn't take it to well and told my mother he wanted a divorce. But he never did, she died with my birth. And he's only just started talking to me. But a lot of it was, that I wasn't really his daughter. But he stopped that after grandfather hit him once." Lavinia stopped talking and looked at Tom. He was silent, it looked like he was thinking hard.
"I suppose now I can be sure of my parents' names." He muttered more to himself than Lavinia.
"Your mother's not alive?" Lavinia asks.
"No! She is not." He eyes flashed red, but Lavinia was sure it was just the light playing tricks.
"Oh . . . I'm sorry." Lavinia shrinks away from the angry boy.
"You will not tell anyone our discussion. Do you understand?" Tom glares at her.
"I won't tell anyone, it's none of their business." Lavinia looks insulted that Tom would think she's spill any family secrets.
"Tell no one we are related." Tom orders.
"But . . . people, they've already assumed that we're related. Because of our shared name." Lavinia tells him.
Tom curses.
"I'll take care of it. Until we meet again don't tell anyone anything." Tom orders, waves his wand the door unlocks and disappears behind the door.
Lavinia sags to the ground his magic was so . . . intense he was powerful. Even more than professor Dumbledore.
Lavinia's stomach growls, she gets up off the floor and walks to the dining hall.
This is a line break.
"Today I want you to transfigure this toothpick into a needle." Professor Dumbledore tells her class. The Hufflepuffs were paired with the Gryffindors, Lavinia sat by Rubus.
"Please begin." Dumbledore says.
Lavinia stared at her toothpick focusing on a metal sewing needle. As she begins to say the incantation.
She could feel her magic focus on the toothpick, change to metal ,change to metal. She closed her eyes picturing one of her grandmother's needles.
"Ah . . . Ms. Riddle's done it, on her first try no less. Very impressive, Ten points to Hufflepuff Ms. Riddle." Dumbledore smiles warmly at her.
"Wow! On yer first try." Rubus beamed at her.
"Don't suppose you can help me with mine?"
"Of course I'd be delighted too." Lavinia grin back at Rubus.
"Just picture a metal needle in your head. Keep it there while you say the incantation and then let your magic flow." Lavinia teaches him.
Rubus says the incantation and his face screws up in concentration. It slowly becomes a metal toothpick.
Rubus opens his eyes and smiles.
"Well I changed it at least!"
"Keep trying I'm sure you'll get." Lavinia smiled.
The next class was charms. It was taught by a tall man blond haired man, named Professor Ian Starlet.
"Now class I want you to repeat after me, Wingardium leviosa. Remember to swish and flick with your wand. And now begin I want you to make your feather float." The teacher waved his hand for his students to start.
Lavinia stared at her feather.
"Wingardium Leviosa." She says as she swishes and flicks her wand. Her feather rises above everyone's heads. Lavinia smiles at her feather.
"I see you've managed to do it Miss . . . ?" Professor Starlet raises an eyebrow.
"Lavinia Riddle, sir." She answered respectfully.
"Any relation to Tom Riddle in Slytherin?" He looks eagerly at her.
"I don't really know Professor." She tells him.
"Hmm . . . Well in any case ten points to Hufflepuff." He looks disappointed about Tom not being related to her.
"How did you get it so fast? You're a muggleborn like
me." A very smart girl, Mira Turpin asks Lavinia.
"And you are?" Lavinia asks.
"I'm Mira Turpin, your name?"
"Lavinia Riddle." Lavinia tells Mira.
"You should have been in Ravenclaw." Mira says.
"Hmm . . . I've heard that a lot today." Lavinia muses.
"I'm really jealous that Hufflepuff got you." Jill says, from behind them.
"Hello Jill, how are your classes?" Lavinia asks.
"Oh very interesting, but there's nothing about crumbled-horned snorkack in the library." Jill sounds very disappointed.
"Oh." Both Mira and Lavinia says, neither having any idea what a Crumbled-horned snorkack is.
This is a line break.
Lavinia sat at the Hufflepuff table for lunch. Evan, the twins Thalia and Theodore Mc'Millin, Sally Bones, Bobby Rankin, Tomkin Greystone, Jenny Salamander, and Mai Chang. All of the first year Hufflepuffs sat together talking.
"You got Hufflepuff Twenty points today. Good job." Sally congratulates.
"We'll win the house cup if you keep this up." Evan claps a hand on her back, stuffing food into his mouth.
They chat and visit.
"What do we have next?" The twins asks together.
"Potions with Professor Slughorn."Bobby takes a prim bite out of his egg salad sandwich.
"Ugh . . . Slughorn." Mai groans.
"The slug going to collect us for sure." Jenny moans.
"Collect you?" Lavinia asks brows furrowed.
"Slughorn likes to collect students. I heard he already thinks you're related to Riddle. He going to do everything to get you to join his club." Mai say matter of factly.
Lunch ended and the first year Hufflepuffs hurried down to the dungeons for class. Lavinia saw Cyrus sitting at a table. She hurried to sit down by him. Her fellow Hufflepuffs looked at her like she was crazy.
"Hello, Cyrus. How's your day been?" Lavinia smiles at him.
He looks taken aback.
"I'm slytherin." He tells her.
"So?" Lavinia is puzzled.
"You're not suppose to sit by me." Cyrus shifts away from her.
"Why not?" She asks again.
"It's just not done." Cyrus frowns.
"Don't you want to be friends?" Lavinia wonders if she missed read him.
"No I do, but To- . . . never mind. We should get our cauldrons set up." Cyrus quickly sets up his cauldron and fire.
Lavinia stares at him, did Tom do something to him? She lights the fire under her cauldron.
"Hello class I am Professor Slughorn today we're going to make a simple burn ointment potion. The best potion of the class I will give to Madam Pomfrey." He waves his wand and the instructions and the list of ingredients write themselves on the black broad.
"Began." Slughorn says cheerful.
Lavinia gets up to grab her ingredients from the table. She brings them back to her table.
Lavinia grinned potions was just like cooking.
This is a line break.
"Miss Riddle taking after your brother so quickly. I'm a bit miffed he hid such a charming sister from me. And how come you aren't in my house? Well I'm sure he'd be proud to find out how well you're doing. Best potion in the class." Slughorn prattle on as Lavinia tried to polity edge out of the classroom.
"Ah Tom I was just telling your little sister all about your school adventures. She's a chip off the old block. Your brother is Hogwarts best student you know. Bound to make head boy for sure." Slughorn sounds like a proud father. Tom had stepped into the classroom without Lavinia noticing.
"Yes I'm very proud of my sister. But I would like to ask permission from you to have Lavinia sit with me for dinner." Tom oozes charm.
"Of course Tom I dare say you need time to catch up with your sister." Slughorn beams at his favorite student.
Tom grabs Lavinia's hand and drags her out of the classroom.
Tom locked the door of an empty classroom.
"I have told everyone that you are my sister. You will tell no one of our father, and that your mother's name was Merope Gaunt." Tom dares her to challenge him.
"Yes sir." Lavinia salutes him.
"Are we going to sit by your friends?"
"They're not my friends. Hurry up."
This is a line break.
Lavinia sat next to Tom eating her food with grace as the table stared at her.
"Hello Cyrus." Lavinia waved.
"Come sit by me."
Cyrus looks like a bunny caught in a headlight.
Tom nods at him.
Cyrus nervously walks over to sit down by Lavinia.
"How did you like your classes Cyrus?"
Cyrus eyes Tom nervously before replying.
"Fine, how do you like yours?"
"Oh they are wonderful, I've only ever been taught at home. These classes are so challenging. I'm having fun." Lavinia smiles brightly at the boy.
Tom's eyes are locked into Lavinia. His glare could have soured milk. Tom couldn't understand this girl. She was far too happy for his liking.
And she was a Hufflepuff.
He was the heir of Slytherin, and his half sister ended up in the most useless house. Other than blind loyalty of course, that was useful.
She appeared to know use charm. Lavinia had the staff at Hogwarts eating out of her hand. Even Dumbledore, to Tom's utmost disgust. His followers were far too interested in his new found sibling. Tom wouldn't allow this child to ruin all of his hard work.
Still Tom mused the girl could be a good weapon against Dumbledore.
Tom took a bit of his shepherd's pie.
Turning his attention back into Lavinia's mindless chatter.
"Of course that makes sense, I couldn't get what the professor was saying, but I understand Dumbledore's lecture better now." Lavinia nodded her head.
"I know! We should set up a study group for our year. That way you can meet our year mates since you're so shy. I've already made lots of friends in the other houses. I'm sure they'll like you once they meet you."
Tom inwardly scoffed at the rising blush on Cyrus's face. Lavinia certainly wasted no time gathering allies like flies.
"That's does sound like a good idea." Drucella Black a sixth year girl who always enjoyed shoving her unwanted attention on Tom. Tom unfortunately could be rid of her as she was of the house of black.
"As long as they are no Mudbloods, coming to your study group."
"Mudbloods?" Lavinia frowned.
Drucella rolled her eyes at Lavinia's confused expression.
"It means dirty blood, muggle blood, blood traitors, and the like. You don't want to look bad it reflects on Tom." Drucella turned to Tom smiling coyly.
Cyrus slid down in his seat, trying to not draw Drucilla's attention.
Lavinia frowned.
The whole pure blood thing sounded like nonsense to her, look at the royal families of Europe who married to close. Or the Gaunts, didn't grandmother say they married first cousins?
Lavinia nodded politely at the pompous girl.
"I'll keep that in mind, miss Black. But my brother and I need to talk about potions class so I'm afraid you'll have to disentangle yourself from Tom, like a proper young lady would."
Cyrus couldn't hide his smile.
Tom prying Drucilla's iron grip off his arm, dismissed her.
"As my sister said I'm busy, go entertain Malfoy." No sooner had he said it, Drucella obeyed. Quickly retreating to a few seats down to where a handsome blonde boy sat. Tom gave Lavinia a calculated look.
Why had she interceded on his behalf? Tom would have been able to take care of it himself. He didn't need a little girl's help. Lavinia was looking at Tom as well.
"You're my brother now, keeping irritating young woman away from you is my job as your little sister."
She told Tom quite seriously.
Tom raised an eyebrow.
"I've always wanted an older brother, and besides. I don't think miss Black is good enough for you. She's too much of an air head." Lavinia whispered. Cyrus snickered, at Lavinia's comment.
Tom could only wonder what was her game by doing this for him. Nothing in this world was for free.
This is a line break.
Lavinia had set up her study group for anyone in her year wanting to come. And it was quite successful, her year mates and herself's grades improving. The teachers sang her praises.
Cyrus had made a few friends, after he helped the group with their star charts. Hagrid was very helpful for anything about magical creatures. He and Jill got along well.
The unused classroom that was given to them by Professor Dumbledore, was quiet as student bent over desks only the sound of searching quills. Lavinia was finished with her homework. Lavinia was writing a letter to her grandmother.
Dear Grandmother, was how Lavina began. Her hands shaking. She didn't know how her grandmother would take the news.
Classes are well, I have enclosed a report from my professors on my progress. I'm doing quite well here at this school. I have also I closed a sketch of an older boy at my school.
Notice how much he looks like my father. His name is Tom Marvolo Riddle. I have met the son of Merope Gaunt. He is the most popular boy in this school. Very well mannered, the top student in school. My marks are very good as well. He lives in St. Mary's orphanage, in the summers. I asked Headmaster Dippet for permission if Tom might come home with me for the holidays. And yours and grandfather's of course.
Sincerely your loving granddaughter,
Lavinia Riddle.
The door opened.
Lavinia looked up, the classroom was empty all of the other students having left. Professor Dumbledore was standing before her.
"Miss Riddle it's late what are you doing out?"
"I'm sorry professor, I must have lost track of time." Lavinia gathered her things.
"Lavinia, you must stay away from Tom Riddle. He is not what he seems." Dumbledore warns.
Lavinia frowned.
"For your own safety I beg you."
Lavinia scowled.
"Professor I take blood very seriously. Tom is my brother. I will not abandon him."
"It is admirable to be loyal to your family. But can you be loyal to a murder?" Dumbledore's eyes glittered in the darken room.
"Murder? What are you talking about?" Lavinia's face paled.
"Tom last year set Slytherin's monster on the school. It killed a girl. He sent an innocent fellow student to prison."
"I heard about that. His name was Charlie Bone." Lavinia says quietly.
"Then you know Mister Riddle is dangerous." Dumbledore is trying to be gentle.
"Then all it means is that I need to stand by my brother even more. He's only sixteen. He's been an orphan all his life. And at one of the worst in London. He's not to far gone yet, He's not." Lavinia clenched her fists together.
Dumbledore's face fell.
"I see Tom has already been working his charm on you."
Lavinia was insulted.
"You think I don't see threw his act? Do you think me stupid? I know what he is, Tom is a bully. He scares his housemates, he loves
power." Lavinia wasn't just a sweet little girl. She knew how to observe people, things.
"But he's just lonely and unloved, that's what makes him dangerous. I've written my grandmother about him. She'll tell my grandfather and he'll demand custody of Tom from that orphanage. He's always wanted a grandson."
Dumbledore sighed.
"Tom is not to be trusted."
"Why not?"
"Because he is a dark wizard. And Dark wizards do not change." Dumbledore says bitterly.
"Are you speaking with experience Professor?" Lavinia narrows her eyes.
"Yes I am."
"Professor until Tom proves to me himself he is not going to change. I will be doing everything in my power to help him." Lavinia walked dismissively out of the classroom.
She walked to her common room.
"What's this a student out of bed?" A silky voice asks.
Lavinia whirls around. It was Tom.
"Hello Tom."
"What are you doing out of bed?" Tom stepped towards her.
"I just lost track of time studying that's all." Lavina took a step back from the glare he shot at her.
"Liar, what did Dumbledore want? Tell me Now!"
Tom's eyes flickered red once more.
"He warned me you were a murder, and a dark wizard. And that I should stay away from you. But I told him no, because you're my brother. And sibling should stick together." Lavinia says quickly.
Tom grabbed her chin and forced her to look him straight in the eye. Then Lavinia saw flashes of herself and Dumbledore speaking in his classroom. Tom quickly let go of her chin.
"You wrote to your grandmother about me?" His voice was low and dangerous.
"Well yes, as I said you're a Riddle. You should live with us. Grandfather will be really excited to have a grandson to leave everything to." Lavinia tells him.
"Why wouldn't he leave it to . . . Father?" Tom asks slowly.
"Oh Grandfather says Father is stain on our family Line. Because first he ran off with your mother and didn't take responsibility for it. And then acted horrible to my mother. Grandfather is really big on the family honor. He spent a long time trying find out what happen to you. But he never found you." Lavinia was babbling now.
"Grand mother will love you too, boys are just more important in the family. I mean girls can't be the heirs."
Tom was quiet.
"You gave your grandmother the name of my orphanage."
"Yes." Lavinia was nervous.
Tom had a strange look in his eyes. Lavinia thought it might be hope.
"He'll adopt me out from the orphanage?"
"Oh yes most assuredly." Lavinia nodded. Tom's hand shot out wrapping around her neck.
Tom leaned down.
"If I find out this was a lie or a trick by Dumbledore. Then I will kill you slowly." He said softly into her ear.
"It's n-not I promise. When Grandmother writes back I'll bring the letter to you so you can read it first." Lavinia promises.
Tom let go of her neck.
He grabbed her by the arm and started walking to her common room.
This is a line break.
The next week Lavinia got the letter at the morning post. She was tempted to open it there and read it but Tom's heavy gaze was fixed on her.
So she slipped it into her bag and left her finished breakfast. Tom slipped out after her.
Lavinia was waiting for Tom in the first floors girl's bathroom.
Tom flung open the door.
"See, see Tom, here it is." Lavinia waved the letter around.
Tom snatched it from her.
His eyes were wild, his shaking fingers tore open the envelop.
He eyes roamed the paper.
My sweet dear Lavinia,
Your grandfather was out the door the moment I read the address of St. Mary's orphanage. I don't know why we never thought to look there. Your grandfather was very excited. He arrived back last night with the adoption papers in hand. And his will changed, silly man. We simply can't wait to meet Tom. We look forward to the holidays, we plan on picking you both up at King's cross.
I'm glad to hear that you are doing so well in your classes. And that you are making friends. Your grandfather wants me to tell you he is very proud of both of you. Being the top students in your years very impressive.
Wishing to see you soon,
Your grandmother.
Tom stopped reading.
He felt strange.
He fumbled the letter back to Lavina who read it.
"This is wonderful, now you get to come home. You'll love the manor, I advised Grandmother to give you the West wing room. It has the best view by the lake." Lavinia chattered on.
"And grandfather will want to take you hunting, grandmother will want to take you shopping. And we can visit Morfin. Of course we'll have to keep that a secret. Grandmother doesn't like me talking to him."
Tom snapped his eyes to Lavinia.
"Morfin?"
"Your uncle, he's a bit crazy but once you get past the eating snakes bit and his smell, he's not so bad. I help him keep his house clean, and I bring him food sometimes. He's been really lonely after his father died. He hated me at first, cause I was muggleborn but now we're almost friends." Lavinia chattered on not noticing Tom's overwhelmed look.
"I mean that he doesn't try to throw knives at me, or hiss at me when I visit him."
"Will father be there?" Tom asked suddenly.
Lavinia went quiet, then she spoke.
"Perhaps, Father doesn't really have Christmas with us very often. I was born near Christmas and mother died soon after. He mostly gets drunk and grandfather told him if he wants to be a disgrace he could do it somewhere else, that he wasn't to ruin it for the rest of us. Father just isn't around much."
Tom's eyes harden.
"I see."
Lavinia noticed.
"But you'll meet him eventually. I did, he comes back for New Years. All though he does like to avoid me. I think it's because when he looks at me, it makes him feel like a horrible person. Besides, both of our grandparents are excited to meet you. Just think in four months you'll officially the heir for the Riddle family."
Tom put on a thoughtful expression.
"I need to think." He stumbled so much less graceful than usual leaving Lavinia alone.
This is a line break.
Tom Marvolo Riddle sat staring hard at his sleeping half-sister. He found it laughably easy to sneak into the Hufflepuff dorms. It was different from Slytherin, in colors, in how it was set up. Lavinia had her own room seeing as it was roomy enough in Hufflepuff for its occupants to all have their own room.
What did little Lavinia gain from all of this? If Tom hadn't looked into her mind he would have guessed it was to power.
But Tom had looked into Lavinia's mind and it wasn't what he expected. She had defended him even after Dumbledore told her how much of a monster he thought Tom was. She wrote to their grandmother to take him away from that rat infested excuse of an orphanage. Tom almost wished she was lying. So he could just keep things were they were comfortable. But she wasn't lying she meant every word.
She thought she could save Tom Riddle the demon boy. She thought she could succeed in where countless others had failed to fix him. Whether it be from beatings, to being forced to read the bible or being locked in the basement in the cold and dark. Tom had given up on finding his family long ago and now here it was forcing its way back into his life.
For the first time in his life Tom was confronted with something that couldn't be just quietly taken care of, or intimidated, or charmed.
Old fears crept back up from childhood even after so much time Tom spent trying to deaden them.
What if they sent him back? What if they didn't want him? What if they thought him a freak too? What if none of this was real?
Tom stopped shaking.
What if this was just a pathetic dream Tom had made up to-to satisfy his need to find out about his family.
Tom's hand moved of its own accord up to Lavinia's neck. Lavinia was so small, so young that Tom could fit her entire slim neck in just his right hand. Tom squeezed gently. Lavinia shifted in her sleep.
Her pulse rate thumbing, Tom could feel it beneath his fingers. Tom let go of Lavinia's neck.
She was real.
Tom just couldn't understand Lavinia. She had to have a reason. Tom just had to find it.
End of chapter 2.
I wrote this a long time ago but I've been busy. I appreciate the reviews, thank you.
I'm a little stuck with where I want this story to go. I might just make it a short story. Or maybe not I don't know. Anyway I hope everyone who read this chapter found it entertaining.
I'm glad it's being read. I don't know when I'll get the next chapter but I'll try to fin time to write it.
