Chapter 2: a new beginning
Look back
It's the same old story
You left me, you left me brokenhearted
I really need a new beginning
A few days past by. Fortunate for Liz, she still hadn't seen nor spoken to Max or Maria. The only one that knew, besides Michael, was Alex. He found out after she "accidentally" bumped into him the other day. Of course she made him swear not to tell their best friend yet. It was bizarre, how much had already changed, in just a few days. She and Michael had this weird hanging-out-not-really-talking-sitting-in-silence thing going on. Which was nice, but strange. It was odd how much she actually started to like it. Maybe because it was a "new" relationship. Liz wasn't sure how she felt about it, but she knew one thing, she really liked spending time with Michael.
"Ok stop thinking about it Parker." Liz thought to herself. "Damn now I sound like him. Calling myself Parker. Who does that?" shaking her head, Liz tried to stop thinking about it or rather stop talking to herself.
Michael who changed back into his street cloth after his shift just ended, cached sight of her, as she walked down the stairs. As strange as it sounds, but he liked spending time with her lately. Liz had changed over the summer, it was the first thing he notice, since she came back. But so did he. After killing Pierce everything changed. His relationship with Max and Maria had completely transformed. With Izzy it was basically the same. And Tess. Well who knows how that will play out. But Liz. "Who would have seen that coming?" he thought smirking. Remembering the last couple of days.
"Hey." she said in a cool tone.
"What's up Parker?" Michael responded with a teasing smirk on his lips.
"Nothing much." shrugging her shoulders as she answered him. "I'm kinda bord!"
"Yeah me, too!" he said hoping they might hang out later on.
"Why it's friday night? Shouldn't you be out there or something?"
"Same goes for you. Besides Max and Co. are out there."
"OH!" stepping closer to him "you not by any chance in a let's-hang-out-don't-talk-much mood are you?"
"If it beat's going out there? Hell yeah."
"Yeah no kidding." Liz responded in agreement. "Just let me put this down first," pointing to the dishes in her hands. Michael made his way up the stairs into the living room, but before Liz could follow him, Maria came into the back room.
We can break the cycle - we can break the chain
We can start all over - in the new beginning
"Liz!" Maria screamed surprised. "When did you get back? And why didn't you call me?" Liz was shocked to say the least; she was not in the mood to talk to her.
"Oh god please let this be a dream. This can't be happening right now." Liz thought annoyed.
"Hey Maria" she put a fake smile cross her face. "I just got back today and my parents have been all over me so..." she lied.
"That's ok. Say no more. I know how parent's or rather a parent can be. Since your back, let's hang out and you can tell me all about Florida. You know Max is here too, I can get him for you if you want to talk to him?" Maria asked eagerly.
"NO! Please Maria, don't tell Max I'm back." she said pleading.
"What? Why?"
"Just please don't. I don't wanna talk to him."
"He and Tess ain't together you know!" trying to assure her that she had nothing to worry about.
"That's not it."
"Oh come on Liz I know you, of course it is."
"Damn it Maria!" Liz practically screamed at her. "You just don't get it do you? It's not about Max or Tess. This is about me and how I feel ok? And I just don't wanna talk or see him right now." Liz started to calm down. "So please. Don't!"
"Gee alright. You don't need to bite my head off."
"You right. I'm am sorry. I just wanna be left alone for a while."
"Alright. If that is what you want. But I'm working tomorrow, so I will see you than?!" it wasn't a question really, more like a notification.
Michael, who had heard everything, not that he was eavesdropping or anything, was concerned about her. Still sitting on the couch, tv on, Liz made her way on to the sofa, letting out a deep breath. Normally the other person would have asked if she was ok, but he already knew the answer to that. So they just sat there staring at the tv.
It's time to stop and start all over
Make a new beginning
The next day came way too soon for Liz. Maria was already waiting downstairs for her. After they finished talking, or more like Maria was, at least for now, Liz needed to get out of there to clear her head.
Not really paying attention were she was heeding. She literally ran into Max and Isabel. "Great! That's just great!"
"Liz".
"Hi...Max. Isabel."
"Hey Liz." said Isabel
"So...so when did you get back?" Max asked nervously.
"Yesterday," she lied again just in case he talked to Maria later on.
"You look... great!"
"Thanks."
"So how have you been?" Max asked. Liz wasn't in the mood for small talk.
"Well actually I'm ..." then she saw Kyle approaching from behind them.
"Oh my god Kyle!" she said happily as she run past Max. Kyle was overwhelmed, as Liz pulled him into a hug, he hadn't even seen coming.
"Hey Liz." he said hugging her back. Liz gave him a warm smile.
"When did you get back?" Liz questioned Kyle.
"Today, actually, my Dad forgot to pick me up. I spent like two hours waiting for him."
"Ouch. If I had known you come I would have come and picked you up. I might could have just avoid this whole day so far." she responded sarcastically to the last part.
"You couldn't have told me that sooner!" he said joking around. Max watched the reunion between the two with interest. Isabel just watched them with interested.
"What are you doing right now?" Liz asks him. She needed to get away from Max and fast.
"Nothing special. Why?"
"Well I thought we could catch up."
"How can I say no to a beautiful woman?" he replied with a smile, when he saw Max's reaction to his comment his smile got even bigger. "Hey guys." he nodded to the Evans siblings.
"Valenti." Max said sharply and looked at Liz, who just gave him a look.
"My strength fails. My vitality exhausted. I cannot find the bull. I only hear the locusts chirring through the night."
"What?" Max asks stunned.
"Nothing."
Liz and Izzy couldn't hold their laughter and burst out by the look on his face.
Kyle and Liz went back to the Crashdown, talking for hours. His new-found Buddhism, was really something. He did make her laugh, a couple of times. He loved seeing her like this again. Ever since they joined the I-know-an-alien-club, things were always so tense. He just hoped that things would stay like this for a while.
Everything for nothing
I'm here I'm leaving to a better side where I can be myself again
The moonlight was shining through the night-blue sky. Liz and Michael sat side by side on the balcony in silence, staring at the stars. As a cold breeze went through them. Liz didn't even noticed that she was shivering, until Michael put the blanket around her shoulders.
"Thanks," she said a bit astonishing. "I didn't even ..."
"Yeah I know," he said looking at her. "It's getting cold out here," glancing at her watch on the nightstand "and late." He got up and offered her a hand.
Giving him a warm smile she toke it and got up from the chair. Making sure she wouldn't lose her balance, Michael but his arm around her waist. Looking up, into his eyes, goosebumps formed over her body. Neither moving in inch, as it starts to pour down on them.
So there goes chapter 2. I hope you like this new version. Let me know
