Author: Here is the second chapter. I own nothing except my little OC, Nico.
Yuu's POV
I watch as she runs out the door. Her features looked so gentle and innocent. "Like a fairy..." I whisper to myself. The petite girl makes her way back into the room and asks: "What is like a fairy?"
"Nothing is."
"Alright..." she replies and turns to get something out of the medical kit.
"You're a very strange kid y'know?"
"Why is that?" she questions looking up at me with big, soft blue eyes. They're gorgeous…
"When a stranger attacks you in the dead of night you're not supposed to go along with it. What do you think this is a freaking tea party?! Did you tell your parents about me? Won't they go berserk?" I interrogate, hoping to get some normal responses out of her.
"They sent me away..." she replies sullenly, her features twisting into an expression of hurt. Talk about a land-mine. She looks so heart-broken. I instantly regret my callousness. I feel my face heat up, and I turn my head in shame. I peek through the side of my dirty, sticky bangs to see what she's doing. She's playing with a very long needle.
"W-what's that?!"
"It's anesthesia, it's a numbing agent."
"Get that thing away from me!"
"It'll only hurt for a second! I think..." she says confidently with her soft and calm voice. "You think?! I won't let you stick that thing in me! I'm tired of all these damn needles!" She rests a small hand on my forearm before looking at me reassuringly.
"I promise to be careful!"
"No way in hell!"
"I'll take care of your injuries and feed you whatever you like, so please just relax!" she pleaded with the tease of a pout on her small, pink lips. I lift my chin in defiance. I take in the sincere expression she's giving for a few minutes before I sigh in defeat.
"Try anything funny and I'll cut you into a million tiny pieces." she disregards the threat and her face brightens. "Let's get to it!" she states then starts her new task. For a while, she's quiet. I observe her progress; I think my staring makes her nervous, but if it does she doesn't say anything; she just keeps working. She's so small and frail. How is it she came to live alone? When she's done, she shakes the cramps out of her little hands and smiles contentedly at me.
"Well, I guess I should start on dinner."
"Hm..." I feel a huge weight on my chest. As she rises to her feet, I grab her wrist and pull her to face me. "Why are you helping me? Don't you know the danger that could come with helping strangers?"
"Why yes I do mother dearest, I also know you need somewhere safe. A boy like you must have his reasons for running. I'm not a fool; I know there is something more to all this. You were brought here for a reason. I'm just here as support." I stared at her then, awestruck that people like her actually existed. "You're really something, you know that?"
"Oh, I know!" Okay then...she certainly is self-assured. "You're quite pleased with yourself." I grumble. "Oh, I didn't mean that to you silly! I wasn't paying attention. Now what were you saying?"
What the hell? Pay attention when people talk, kid! Even if you weren't listening you don't need to be so honest about it. Scratch conceited off her character; this kid's a ditz.
"What did you mean when you said ' I know'?"
"I was thinking about what to make for dinner."
"You're an airhead." I tease with an irritated smirk on my lips.
"And you're rude!" she puffs out her cheeks and scowls at me and I can't help but smile at her childish behavior.
I pat her head and smile facetiously at her. "You sure are interesting, short-stack." I say slyly, and my smile widens into a grin as her light mocha skin flushes into a deep pink.
"What's the matter? Did I Hit a nerve?" I question coyly; lowering my voice to a mocking whisper as I slowly inch my face closer, her cheeks become an even deeper shade of red until resembles a ripe tomato.
"N-not short… back up…" she begins to mumble.
"What was that? I can't hear you with that mousey voice of yours! Speak up." I command, being sure to speak over her with an impish grin on my face. The little girl sucks in a breath and squeezes those blue orbs shut as she shouts right back "Please back up! Don't call me short-stack!" my grin switches to a satisfied smirk. That's much better. I wonder what such a small kid is doing alone. I ponder on the thought for a moment before asking "why did your parents leave you here?" she sends a quick glance my way, before completely facing me. Her head is down and her long hair covers her eyes so I can barely see her face, a light pink graces her cheeks. "They didn't leave me here. They were trying to protect me. I'm wanted for some kid of testing; I'm not sure how serious, but it must have been bad enough since my parents felt the need to hide me..."
"Your parents must love you very much..." I replied bitterly. She slowly raises her head and looks me in the eyes. "Where is your family, if I may ask" she asks quietly. I glare down at her and she looks slightly guilty. "That's none of your business." I respond harshly. "Guess not, huh? I mean, I am a stranger after all..." she trails off, looking down at her feet. Pregnant silence fills the air. She refuses to look up; I worry that I have hurt the poor girl. "I'm sorry for bringing up something so troubling." she apologizes, though it comes out as a soft whisper. She looks up me with a soft smile and sad eyes before changing topics. "I'm Nicolette. Would you please listen to my story, and then if you like, would you tell me yours?" I looked at her a bit bemused "I thought I made myself clear? We are strangers."
"I know but these encounters are rare. Plus I would like to know about the boy who dropped into my life out of the blue."
"Weird girl…" that was all I could think to say as she lead me into the kitchen.
Author: So the next chapter is going to explain their different backgrounds and maybe even shed some light on their governments' intentions. Please leave a comment and let me know what you think! Until Next time~!
