A/N: Sorry for how short that last snippet was, it was awkward if I kept the chapter going because it switches focus to Casey and Alex in this chapter, but here's a bit of a longer one, and I promise they will get longer as the plot begins to unravel. Enjoy!
"Assistant District Attorney Casey Novak, how may I help you?"
"Uh, Case, don't you have caller ID?"
"Oh shit, hi Liv, sorry I wasn't looking, I'm late to lunch with Al." Casey pushed open her office doors as she said this, holding up a finger at the blonde who had eagerly jumped up to greet her, making her smirk and sit back down.
"Oh great you're with her. Cragen told me to call you, we've got a new case and apparently it's bad enough that we need both you and Alex to work it, I don't really know the details, Rollins and I are headed there now." Olivia laughed as she heard a groan from Casey's side of the line.
"Great. Now Alex is gonna kill m- ouch, Cabot! Anyways, so do you need us to come to the crime scene?"
"No, you probably won't wanna see this if it's as bad as Cragen is saying, we'll call you after to have you meet us at the precinct."
"Okay, bye Liv." Casey hung up and glared at Alex, although a small smile crept up in the corner of her mouth, "Really, Al? I didn't even tell you yet and you're already abusing me!"
"Calm down, Case, I tapped you. What'd Liv tell you?" The blonde rolled her eyes at the redhead as she sat down next to her on the couch, her legs immediately coming to rest on Alex's lap.
"We caught a case. Apparently it's bad and they need both of us to work it. Liv said she'd call us soon to tell us to come to the precinct." At Casey's words, Alex groaned, letting her head fall back and thump dramatically against the couch, Casey rolling her eyes and giggling at her friend.
"Did you ever think when we first met that this is what we'd end up like?" Alex asked, gesturing to Casey's legs in her lap, and her own hand that had started playing with the rings on Casey's fingers.
"Well the first time we met I was scared shitless of you because I didn't wanna fuck up the trial and be another reason why you couldn't come home."
"Ugh I meant after that you dork, when we started working together. And you did great, by the way."
"Thanks Al. I guess I didn't expect to have much of a relationship beyond a professional one, I was intimidated by you, I thought you wouldn't like me, but somehow you do, and I'm glad." Casey smiled at the blonde, lifting her hand to softly run a finger across Alex's cheek.
"I do like you, very much. I think I'll keep you." Alex's smile broke out into a full grin at the dopey look in her friends eyes when she said that, Casey smiling back at her, eyes sparking. The phone rang, making them snap out of their hazy flashbacks.
"Yeah, Liv?"
"C-Case, you and A-Alex gotta get down to the precinct, we just left the crime scene, it's, god, it's awful." The shaking of Olivia's voice made Casey extremely worried, not much rattled the brunette detective, which is why Casey leapt up, pulling Alex to her feet, and gesturing to her coat.
"We'll be there in 10."
"Case? What's wrong?" Alex took in the worried look in her friend's eyes, a similar look starting to form in her own as she watched Casey grab her coat and start out the door, Alex copying her and running after.
"That was Liv. She sounded really shaken up, and you know that's hard to do with her. Something really bad must've happened, Al."
