Chapter Two - What's going on?

Clary wasn't usually a morning person. But when she woke up, she was in a good mood. She had a good dream.

She dreamt about the mysterious boy with amber eyes.

She hoped to see him again. She didn't know why.

Clary pushed the thought aside. She had more important things to do.

Yesterday was hopeless. She tried to find anything related to her father, or her grandparents, but she couldn't find a thing. Nothing. Her mother wouldn't tell her anything about her father, and that annoyed her so much. She had the right to know!

If she couldn't find anything at home, then she would go to the city library. They were bound to have something there.

Right?

Clary sighed and got up. Why did things always had to be so complicated?

She picked out a plain white top with jeans and black boots. On somedays, Clary preferred to have her hair up. Today was one of those days. She put her hair up in a messy bun, a few loose strands falling on her face, which she pushed aside.

Clary looked at her phone on the bedside table. If she was going to do this, she wasn't going to do it alone.

Simon would be dragged into this too.

Clary grabbed her phone, flipping it open and typing Simon's number in. She had memorised it by now.

"Hey."

"Hi Clary. Are you still going to look?"

"Yep. I'm going to the city library, and you're coming with me."

Clary heard a groan.

"Please Simon. I really want to find out, and I want my best friend there."

Simon sighed. "Oh alright. I'll see you at the bakery."

Clary smiled. "Which one? There are loads."

"The one around the corner from the city library. I'll see you in an hour?"

"Yep. Bye then."

"Bye."

Clary pressed the red button, before putting the phone in her jeans pocket. She was very excited. And determined. She wouldn't give up until she at least found something.

Her mother was out with Luke. They said they were going shopping. Clary didn't mind, it meant that she could go to the library without her mother worrying about where she was.

She left the apartment via the stairs. The building manager hasn't called anyone in to fix the elevator, but Clary wished he would. She was fed up of taking the stairs.

It was sunny in Brooklyn. That was different. Usually it was wet and windy. But it didn't matter too much today, as the bakery was only a ten minute walk from the apartment.

Clary was sitting at a table in the bakery, one right next to the window, with a cup of coffee. She was looking at the people walking along, going to their jobs. Many were wearing suits. Then she saw a boy, standing in the middle of the crowd.

He looked awfully familiar. Wait a minute! It was that mysterious boy she had dreamt about.

He was staring at her, not moving. Not one bit. Then a person walked in front of him, and then he was gone!

How was that even possible? Clary thought. He was just there, and now he was gone. Into thin air.

Was he even real - or was her mind playing tricks? Clary wasn't sure.

She was starting to get lost in thought about him, the boy with amber eyes, when Simon finally arrived and sat in the chair opposite her.

Simon frowned. Clary looked worried, or slightly shocked, or both. "Clary?"

Clary looked at Simon. She was slightly dazed. "Hm?"

"Are you alright? I mean...you look like you have just seen a ghost."

She smiled nervously. "I guess you could say that."

Simon looked at her with a worried look, not really understand her last comment. She couldn't have seen a ghost, they don't exist!

"Are we still going to the library then?" He asked her.

Clary nodded. She had to push those thoughts aside, which luckily, she did successfully.

"Let's go then." Simon said with a small smile.

The New York City library was huge. It was the biggest library in the city. Try had thousands of books, whether it was fiction or non-fiction, or family place had everything.

"So...what are you planning to look at in here?" Simon asked her.

"Well I want to look and see if I can find any family records, or anything that might be a newspaper cutting, just anything that might be linked to him. And I need your help because two minds are better than one...do you know that saying?"

"I do know that. And alright then. I'll help you."

"Thanks Simon." She said, with a smile. "You're the best."

Simon grinned at the comment.

They decided to split the work in two. Simon would look for any newspaper cuttings, and Clary would look at family records. Her mother said that her dad was born in New York, so his records must be in here. Because the there might be something that can link her to someone who knew him. Clary sighed. This was going to take a while.

A few hours later and nothing.

Simon couldn't find anything in the newspapers related to the car crash in which her father had died in. At least, that's what her mother told her anyway.

Clary couldn't find any records either. It was like Jonathan Clark didn't exist.

She sighed. Another unsuccessful day.

Simon had to dash off, he had another band practice. She couldn't remember the name of the band, because they changed the name nearly every single week.

Clary walked down the steps of the library, feeling bitterly disappointed.

She didn't find a thing. But what she knew was that she wasn't going to be giving up that easy.

What she wanted to happen was for her mother to tell her about her father. But she wouldn't say a word. And that annoyed Clary so much.

Clary sighed and began the 10 minute walk home. The sky was turning dark very quickly, so she starting walking quicker. She felt like someone was watching her, and then she heard footsteps.

She turned around, but no one was there. Yep - her mind was definitely playing tricks on her.

Clary reached the apartment doors, and suddenly felt tired. She was going to bed when she got home.

Later that night, she dreamed about the boy with amber eyes again.

That's it for now - please review! :)
