'You are Alvena Elisabeth Kerrich, the blood of the north pumps through your veins. You are my daughter. Don't you ever forget that, little one.'
When I woke up the next morning I was feeling a bit sore. Being a waitress is actually a bit more challenging than people would think. I went downstairs to get myself some coffee. Without coffee I literally wouldn't function. For some reason I'm always sleepy during the day and wide awake at night. Elves normally don't need much sleep, but since I'm also human that doesn't really apply for me.
As went downstairs I noticed my dad's old bookcase in the living room. There was a big black box on the top shelf. I wondered why I didn't notice the box before.. It was huge.
I completely forgot about the coffee and went over there to grab the box. I quickly figured that I couldn't reach it though. 'Height.. Another elven feature I didn't inherit.' I thought to myself.
I grabbed a chair from the living room and went back to get the box. When my mission finally was accomplished I was feeling pretty excited.
When I opened the box I noticed a big pile of papers inside it. Normally I would not investigate it any further, but knowing that it was my father who placed it there, I had to. My father was always full of secrets.. And I must admit, I did wonder why he didn't want me to move to Bon temps in the first place.
After a while I was beginning to feel impatient. The papers in the box was pretty much only about old elven myths and the elven authority. All bullshit if you ask me. I hate politics, and I always tried to avoid it. I almost gave up the search but then I stumbled across a white envelope. Inside the envelope was a bunch of pictures of a man. The man in the pictures was beautiful. His striking blue eyes would have been impossible not to notice. He was a vampire, no doubt about it. His blond hair was shoulder length and he was definitely from the north like me. But why did my father have pictures of him hidden away in a box? This didn't make any sense to me. And even though I was determined to find out more about the striking blond vampire I knew I had to let it go for now. There wasn't much I could do about it anyway.
I went to the upstairs bathroom to brush my hair and get dressed for my shift at Merlottes. I always had to make sure that my hair covered my ears. If it didn't, everyone would be able to see that I'm different. It wasn't in an elf's nature to cover their ears, we took pride our pointy feature. But unfortunately, it was necessary. To humans we are forgotten, merely just a myth. The same goes for vampires, but if they ever found out the truth, they wouldn't hesitate to feast on our flesh. Thats at least what I've been told. Vampire Bill didn't seem to be that dangerous though. He might have looked at me a bit funny, but who can blame him? I don't exactly look ordinary. But it defiantly didn't look like he wanted to rip my throat out.
As I finished my hair I looked at the result in the mirror. I was happy with it. I decided to just let it fall naturally down my shoulders. I once considered coloring my hair because people kept asking questions about it. You see, my hair color is almost white. So when I told people that it was my natural hair color they didn't believe me. Now I just lie and say that it's colored. Whats the point in saying that its natural anyway? for a human, White blond would rarely be natural.. unless you are old...
Sookie picked me up around 5, so we could go to Merlottes for work.
She looked a mess. Her eyes were completely drained and she looked almost looked more pale than Bill.
"Wow, you look tired, Sookie. Are you okay?" I almost wanted to touch her just to see what had made her so exhausted. But then again, I didn't want to witness a Bill Compton sex game. So I decided keep my hands to myself. Just the thought of a sight like that almost made me giggle. But only almost.
"I haven't slept. I think bill might be in some sort of trouble with the Sheriff." she said, concern written all over her face.
"Sheriff? Our sheriff?" I asked. Of course I knew that vampires had sheriffs. But playing dumb and naive always seemed to keep you alive.
"No Al, the vampire sheriff. Every area has some sort of vampire authority. His name is Eric Northman. He's a real asshole if you ask me!" she responded.
"Hell Sook, what happened?"
"It doesn't matter Al, It's probably for the best if we don't talk about it"
'The hell it is' I thought to myself and grabbed her hand.
'Sookie was being attacked by a vampire. She was terrified. Her eyes almost went black of shock. But then it was over, the vampire exploded. There was blood everywhere. The vampire was gone. All that was left was blood and guts. And in the corner of her eye was bill. Standing with fangs exposed and a stake in his hand'
FUCK. Bill staked a fucking vampire. This was bad. Even I knew that. I tried to compose myself so Sookie wouldn't notice my sudden shock. She did though. I could feel her energy picking through my brain. It annoyed me a bit, but I knew she wasn't going to find anything. I've learned how to block out other peoples energies a long time ago..
When we finally made it to Merlotte's felt a bit relieved. I could feel that Sookie was beginning to figure out that I wasn't who I said I was. I knew she would sooner or later, since she cant read my thoughts. But I was hoping for later.
Merlottes was busy as always, and it was beginning to stress me out. I decided to go out for a smoke and enjoy the warm summer night. The stars was shining so bright, which was rare this time of year.
When I went back inside I couldn't believe my own eyes. There he was. The blond vampire from my fathers pictures. My legs felt like jelly and I almost lost balance. Why was he here? And who the hell was he?
I noticed a woman standing besides him, she was clearly a vampire as well. She looked bored, but I couldn't really blame her. Merlottes could be a bit depressing sometimes.
My eyes trailed back to the blond vampire. He was unbelievable tall. And I could tell that he was an old vampire. I must have been right when I thought he was from the north. A viking perhaps.
I know I should have ran out just then and there.. But I'm a teenager for Christ sake. I'm not supposed to be rational, and the atmosphere the viking vampire sent me, gave me a thrill. I had to stay. Just for a while.. I decided to watch from a distant though.
The blond vampire and his vampire companions started to pass around flyers for the bar Fangtasia. Fangtasia? Really.. If I wasn't afraid to blow my cover I would have laughed.
"Not him, he doesn't get one" the viking said while looking at a woman passing a flyer to a customer.
"What gives, bro?" the customer asked confused. The viking ran to him so fast that it almost made me loose my breath. He was really fascinating to watch.
"What did you do to your arm there... Bro?" he said in an intimidating, dark tone while looking at the customer. The customer looked at him nervously while hiding his injured arm under the table. The gorgeous vampire suddenly straightened up and walked towards the exit. But before he went out the door he hesitated to continue.
"Oh, before I go, a word of advice. We know when a human has wronged us. We can smell it. So do not make the mistake of letting the pretty blond vampire lady on television make you feel too comfortable. We may not have retaliated...yet."
He looked so fierce. It actually intrigued me a bit. 'Oh Alvena, your in so much trouble' I thought to myself.
"We know who you are. Have a nice night" he continued while looking at everyone at the bar. And then his eyes met mine. They stayed there a little longer than I would have liked. I couldn't read the emotion in his eyes. He just looked blank. I honestly didn't know what to feel as he looked at me. Should I be afraid? Probably. Every instinct inside my body told me to go home, pack and leave this place behind for good. But I already knew that I couldn't do that. There's something about this vampire. Something my father kept from me, and I have to find out what it is.
What do you think? This took me forever to write and I don't really like it.
I would love for you to give me some reviews, so I can do it better in the future.
See you soon
xx
