THE GOVERNOR'S LAMENT
What happened to me? Philip Blake, The Governor, Brian, asked himself, as he lay dying on the doorstep of the decimated prison.
He had been a man with a house, a car, a wife, a daughter, and a job before the dead began to rise up and devour the living. His wife, was gone, taken away by a drunk driver. Philip regretted not answering his phone when she had called. He must have regretted it a thousand times, but here, laying on the hard soil, the regret was more painful than the sword wound Michonne had given him.
And Penny…his Penny…he couldn't save her. She was bitten, but he couldn't save her. Couldn't put her down either…because he foolishly believed her to be alive…curable. And now, he still couldn't let her go…the dying Governor could still see no wrong in his folly.
And he still harbored hatred for Michonne. Michonne had killed his sweet penny. And took his eye out with a shard of glass. His physical pain was temporarily replaced by seething hate.
Lily Chambler's face loomed over him, her eyes reading severe pain.
Before the governor went down, he saw Lily stumble into the fray, carrying the limp body of her daughter, Meghan, who was bitten and dead by a biter.
While Brian (known to Lily, her sister Tara, Meghan, and their recently acquired group as Brian) paused in his efforts to take the prison, and put a single round through Meghan's head. Brian then resumed his leading the assault on the Prison and their crew.
Brian was briefly confused by Lily's sudden look of disgust.
Lily pulled her firearm and fired a shot through his skull.
Philip Blake was no more.
