He didn't waste time. He couldn't. His bare feet slammed against the broken and chipped concrete of the sewers, and his breathing turned to short and quick gasps for air. His large hands tightened around the small frame that he cradled in his arms, and he swore he felt her body curl towards him as he'd scooped her up.
At one point in his panic, even though she'd only fainted, he'd wanted to pause. Just to know she was real and the girl he'd found wasn't just another dream girl. She needed to be real. He didn't want another dream, to turn into a nightmare.
Against his desires, he pushed through the tunnels of the sewer, towards the one place he called home.
As soon as he saw the familiar rusty turnstiles, he bolted towards them, wasting no time in pushing through them. The terrapin instantly headed for the pit in the middle of the room, to lay the brunette gently on the wrap-around seating area.
He turned his head and screamed, "D-Donnie! Sensei!" Pausing to catch his breath, he heard his family members run towards him and the girl, but it wasn't Donnie or Sensei who rounded the corner first. Raph had appeared, sais out to fight.
His brother's green gaze ran over the room in a frantic zigzag, before ot landed on the back of his brother's head, and he lowered his sais. "Mikey! Where have you been, bro? You have got to stop a-"
Mikey didn't answer. He merely shuffled over, the peaceful body of the brunette brought into view. Raph's eyes widened, and as the others joined them, he was already walking towards the two.
The green-eyed turtle watching how his brother gently brushed the hair from her forehead, gaze never leaving her face. Mikey had a smile on his face that Raph had never seen before.
He lowered himself onto his the balls of his feet and let his gaze wander over the girl. Her hair was a mess, dirt clung to her skin and clothes and the two necklaces she wore under her shirt had spilled out onto her chest in a jumble. Still, his brother stared at her with the same look in his eyes.
Raph's hand came to rest on Mikey's freckled shoulder. "Who is she, bro?" Raph didn't need to see their reactions at the way his voice quivered. Raphael was terrified of how this girl had seemingly, made his brother finally stay quiet at the one moment he needed him to talk.
Mikey didn't answer, but he gently released his wrist from where he held it captive by his chin, and turned it over, so the lighter side of his wrist was on show. 00:00:00 ran through over the skin, making the older terrapin's mouth drop, as well as his brothers. A smile appeared on Master Splinter's face at the faraway look in his youngest's eyes.
"Whoa,"
"This can't be possible," muttered Donatello, eyes wide as he stared at the markings on his baby brother's wrist. As he went to touch them, to see if his brother was playing yet another trick, the wrist was snatched back, and with worried eyes, Mikey turned to Donnie.
"D-Donnie, I...she fainted, and she might have hit her head. Can you check her, please?" His bright blue eyes pleaded with his brother, and he gently moved aside as Donatello moved his way through his gaping brothers to the brunette that lay unconscious on their couch.
Soon, after Mikey had refused profusely to move from her side, Donnie smiled. "She's alright, just passed out from shock, I guess. Mikey, it's best she gets rest, so why-"
"Why don't you take her to your room, my son, so she can rest peacefully without the interruptions of your brothers," Master Splinter interrupted, placing a hand on Donnie's shoulder.
Almost instantly, the youngest jumped up, scooping the girl into his arms effortlessly, and pushing through his family to get her to his room. Master Splinter almost chuckled.
It took a moment for the group to recover, to come back to reality, before Leo whistled lowly. "Wow. Never thought that would happen, and so soon - especially to...Mikey!"
Master Splinter shot a look towards the blue masked turtle sharply. "Leonardo! Do not talk of your brother in such a way. He had as much of a chance of finding his mate first as you do. It is not a race," he scolded, before his eyes softened and he said, "but I must agree, I did not believe it would happen so soon."
"Sensei," a timid voice interrupted his thinking process. It surprised them that it was Raphael, who stared at his Sensei with worried eyes. "The, girl..she was wearing a necklace. It had a boy's name on it...would she be with someone?"
A worried expression overtook the family, missing a member, who was currently holding his soul mate close in his bedroom. With a glance towards the red-masked turtle, he muttered, "It...is a possibility, my son."
Meanwhile, in Mikey's room, he was making a mental note to clean it up later, but before she woke up. As he dodged capes and Lego buildings that crumbled at the seams, he made his way towards his bed. He gently slipped her onto the bed, kicking away some old soda bottles and action figures.
He stood next at her bedside for a few minutes, before pulling up the bed covers and wrapping the girl in them, a sigh escaping him.
The turtle lowered himself to the floor by the bed, watching as in her temporary sleep, her fingers curled. How a small smile appeared on her face, how her other arm wound around his pillow.
He smiled as well, settling beside her and fall fast asleep as well.
