Ch.2: Vanilla

:::

"Mom, I'm going now…" said Sarada as she picked up her basket. Hinata smiled and nodded to her as she took a seat next to Naruto's bed.

"Thank you, Sarada-chan… have a safe trip home, you two" said Hinata as she waved goodbye to her daughter in-law and her son. Then they left.

Hinata then turned to Naruto. She smiled. "Naruto-kun, how are you today?" she whispered. Sadness was heavily felt in her chest while she took Naruto's hand and put it on top of hers. Medical report stated that Naruto had not making any progress and no sign of him waking up.

"Why? Why are you sleeping so soundlessly?" Hinata's thin lips started to quiver. And as the urge to cry started to build up inside of her, a forced smile appeared across her lips. "So, what are we gonna do now?" she muttered.

Quickly, Hinata tore her gaze to her right, towards the basket that she brought. "I brought fruits today. We can eat some while chatting…" she said softly as she took an apple. Silently, she peeled the apple. Only the beeping sound of the monitor was accompanying her.

"Ah… Naruto-kun, do you remember the 'vanilla incident'?" said Hinata. She stopped peeling the apple skin, while looking up at the sleeping blonde with a slight smile across her lips.

/Flashback

It was March 14th. "It's White Day today…" muttered Hinata, blushing. Her statement made Naruto turned to her with eyes widened.

"W-White day?" the blonde breathed out. "I almost forgotten it!" he then chuckled as he looked around the mall. "No wonder there are so many people selling white chocolate today…" he secretly thought.

Hinata squinted at him. "I want my chocolate in return…" she said, pouting slightly.

"But we start dating each other before Valentine's Day so—" then Naruto was cut off.

"I still want my chocolate!" Hinata stated with her arms crossed. "Naruto-kun… I've made you chocolate on the V-Day…". Hinata pleaded while tugging on Naruto's arm slightly.

Naruto grinned awkwardly before nodding. "Okay, I'll get you one…"

Then they both went to a stall selling variety of white chocolate. "Which one do you want, Hinata?" asked Naruto. Hinata looked at all kinds of chocolate on display.

"All of them are so pretty and looks yummy…" muttered Hinata. Then she found one that caught her attention the most. She pointed to it. "I'll take this one" she said. It was a heart-shaped white chocolate on a skewer.

"Thank you, Naruto-kun…" said Hinata happily as they walked to the park. Naruto nodded. Then they took a seat on the bench, enjoying the day in the park.

"You better eat it fast… it's starting to melt…" said Naruto while watching Hinata eating her chocolate.

Hinata shook her head. "I just wanna savor it and eat it slowly…"

"Why?" asked the blonde curiously.

"Because it's pretty and it's a gift from you…" Hinata smiled slightly.

Naruto stared at her silently. "Hey, you got some chocolate there…" Naruto suddenly pointed. Instinctively, Hinata reached for a tissue but Naruto stopped her.

"Let me help you…" said Naruto as he leaned closer.

And Naruto leaned closer. Hinata was stiffened when Naruto touched her cheeks. Then he tilted his head slightly and got even closer. As their lips were only a breath away, Hinata's breathing became slower despite her crazy heartbeat. Then their lips met in a soft yet thrilling kiss.

/End of flashback

Hinata chuckled as she stared into space, remembering her first kiss that was stolen over a lie. "A sweet little liar…" she shook her head slightly then continued peeling the apple. "There was never any chocolate on my face, wasn't it?" she said.

Then Hinata heaved a long breathe as she put the peeled apple on the side table. Her eyes were softened as she looked at Naruto.

"And you said, I taste like vanilla…"
