AN: Okay, so... there was like a two month period where I didn't really think about this. Admittedly I wrote most of chapter one in a single night and posted it before I could chicken out. I will keep updating this, hopefully faster than this one came out, but It won't be anything regular as of yet.
Once again, I appreciate any feedback.
Taiyang had just decided he was not a fan of bullheads. This mission was the first time any of the teens had ridden in one of the aircraft, and Tai would have been happy for it to be the last. The goliath of a boy found the interior too cramped and low for his liking, smacking his head into the roof every time they suffered turbulence. Needless to say he was happy to be off the thing, rolling his shoulders and cracking his neck as he clambered out.
Summer looked up at him, smirking at the display, it was rare to see the normally exuberant blonde in a bad mood, needless to say, and she intended to capitalize on the moment.
"What's the matter big guy?" she mocked, "too small for you"
Taiyang shot her a glare, "I really hate you right now"
His redheaded partner's only reply was a burst of laughter. Taiyang sighed, he'd learned by now that Summer was ruthless in her verbal assaults; the moment she saw a chink in the armour she'd pounce on it.
Stepping onto the tarmac the group were met by two men; both looked fairly young, only a few years older than them. One had short, clean cropped black hair; the other's was spiked and untamed. The two were dressed in identical uniforms belonging to the vale police corps. As the hunters approached the spiky haired officer stepped forward to greet them.
"You guys must be the hunter team that beacon sent" he yelled to be heard over the bullhead's engine's
Ozpin offered an unamused stare; they were the only flight scheduled to arrive at the small landing strip for the next hour and a half, of course they were the team from beacon, "Obviously." He stated.
The officer, either ignoring or not catching Ozpin's displeasure, gave a wide smile, his hair whipping around in the wind, "Well allow us to introduce ourselves, I'm officer Hayman, and that" he said, nodding to his partner, "is Officer Burns. We were sent to escort you to the station."
The green-clad huntsman nodded, "Lead the way."
With that answer, the officer's began walking in the direction of the nearby van with the Vale PD's insignia printed on the side.
"I just wanna take the chance, on behalf of the rest of the VPD, to thank the lot of you for helpin us out with this gang" Hayman spoke over his shoulder at them, "We're a bit understaffed at the moment and these guys, their slippery bastards."
Summer waved her hand dismissively, "it's nothing, ya know. We do this sort of thing all the time; catchin rouges, dealing justice, protecting the innocent. It's sort of our deal" She finished, shrugging in a unique blend of nonchalance and arrogance.
Glynda barely restrained herself from face palming at her friends proclamation, settling instead on rolling her eyes
Hayman grinned back at the hooded girl, "That so?" he asked, one eyebrow raised
Summer shrugged again and nodded. All parties present clearly knew she was full of shit, but as long as nobody called her out on it, Summer was going to keep up the act.
"Gotta apologize for this but you're gonna have to ride in the back of the van together." Burns said as they drew near it, "The precinct could only spare one vehicle from patrols thanks to the budget cuts lately." He eyed Taiyang, easily the largest of the group at 6'10", "could be a little cramped"
The blonde groaned, earning another burst of laughter from his partner.
"Maybe you'd fit better if you curled up into a little ball on the floor" Summer suggested, "The rest of us could use you as a foot-rest" she continued, " course that could be even more uncomfortable if you've got a thing for that."
The entire group, the two officers continued, stopped dead in their tracks; all eyes swivelling to face the pair. Summer's shit-eating grin didn't waiver in the slightest.
Taiyang's violet eye's locked with his partner's Silver pair, on any other day he would've been able to take everything she could throw at him and give as good as he got. But today had been stressful, as excited as he was for their first field mission, Taiyang couldn't help but be a little anxious about the whole thing. Adding the uncomfortable ride over to that had made him decidedly vulnerable, to the point where he could only muster up a single response to her lewd comment.
"I really Really hate you right now."
The white cloaked girl's semi-permanent smirk grew even larger as she stepped into the van. This day was already going great.
Summer took it back, this day turned to shit. To start with, Taiyang had seen fit to get avenge his wounded pride by trapping her next to Port for the entire drive to the station; who'd been happy to spend the whole half-hour telling her the correct method by which to peel a cabbage, apparently the method differed depending on region. Once they'd arrived at the station it appeared that Hayman had overstated the VPD's gratefulness, they'd gotten little other than dirty looks and mutters of 'damn hunters, trying to do our jobs for us'.
Once the captain had finally been able to see them and give them the mission brief, they learned that the police only knew the general area the thieves were operating in. So now they were going to be wasting a perfectly good day searching for the perps before they could get to the fun 'explodey' part of the mission. Worst of all was that she had been paired with Ozpin; if she'd been paired with Tai or Glynda then she'd at least have someone to talk to, hell even Oobleck would've been better, in his coffee powered bullet-time state he'd probably be worth a few laughs.
But nope, the universe had decided to flip her off, proudly presenting her with Oz. Summer's frown deepened, Ozpin had given reasons for each of the pairings; but in truth, she hadn't really been listening at the time having gotten bored and started inspecting her weapons. She couldn't imagine any good reason for the two of them working together. It certainly wouldn't be because of any amount of respect for her skill, unless she was mistaken he still held the opinion he'd had of her at initiation, that she was 'A hyperactive bundle of raw mayhem, who presents a danger to both herself and anyone she was working with.' She scoffed inwardly, she'd only set him on fire twice, and both times she'd killed the grimm she was aiming for.
Regardless of his opinion of her; they were partnered for the rest of the search, so she may as well make the most of it by making small talk. Besides, if that didn't work she could always just annoy him.
"Soooo" She started.
Ozpin turned his head to her, his face passive.
"…"
"Were you going somewhere with that?" he questioned, his mouth curving into a scowl
Summer rubbed her head, "I was trying to make small talk"
"You said a single word then remained silent; if that is the extent of your skill with speech I'd suggest you just stick to staying quiet."
Summer's eyes narrowed, She managed to stop herself from saying what she wanted to, namely 'I will beat the crap out of you with the stick you've got shoved up your own ass', and settled for fixing a glare at the silver-haired teen.
She crossed her arms and scowled, "we can't find these people soon enough."
Vitreous found his quarry on the roof. The black-clad boy was lying down, his eyes closed and his legs dangling off the side of the building swaying in the light breeze. Vitreous approached and sat down, eyeing the other teen.
The boy lazily cracked open an eyelid a fraction, "You need me for something?"
"They're coming for us again tonight." Vitreous answered, they both knew who he meant by 'they'.
"I'm not worried; we'll send em packing like we did the last lot."
"I'm afraid that's not gonna be so easy this time."
The boy raised an eyebrow, "why not?"
Vitreous ran a hand through his curly, off-white hair, "Because… They sent some hunters-in-training this time"
The boy's eyes opened fully, "You're sure?"
"Flax, heard it when he was watching the police station. Apparently Beacon's sent a first year team." Vitreoues elaborated, nodding in confirmation
A grin broke out across the other teen's face, "Well" he said, getting to his feet and rolling his shoulders; his hood falling back and revealing hair as black as the shroud that had hidden it as he did so. He looked out across the city, gazing in the direction of the great school perched on the edge of the cliff. He turned to Vitreous, determination and anticipation present in the teen's glowing crimson eyes.
"This ought to be interesting."
