Walking into the house, baby still resting against her chest, Madeline grabbed the diaper bag Sam had brought over and walked into Michael's old room where she sat both baby and bag down on the bed. She could tell that he needed a diaper change, so she figured she would do it - until she got an idea. She knew that there was a good chance that Sam hadn't changed his diaper, especially knowing that he probably came right over to her house after he found out he had a kid. So she decided that Sam would change his diaper, just so he knew how to properly change one when he picked Gavin up the next day. Picking the baby back up and resting him on her hip, Madeline made her way back to the garage where she grabbed his attention.
"Sam, honey," she said. "Your son needs a diaper change." Sam turned around from the tool desk and quirked an eyebrow. She knew that he was asking her why she couldn't do it by that simple facial expression, but she wasn't going to give in. "You need to know how to change a diaper. I'm not letting you leave here knowing you have him all day tomorrow." Sam groaned and followed the woman who was a like a second mother to him into the house, knowing full well that it was best just to listen to the woman who was so much like her son.
Once they were in Michael's old room, Madeline rested the boy back onto to bed and stepped out of the way so Sam could step in. Gavin was so close to falling asleep, but he held on long enough to have his diaper changed. Sam did as he thought he was suppose to and for the most part, he did a fairly good job for it being his first time. But when it came time to put a clean diaper on, he couldn't figure it out for the life of him. He had some how managed to get it backwards. So when he picked up Gavin, who giggled at being picked up by his father, and showed Madeline his handy work, she couldn't help but to laugh.
"What?" he asked, confusion written across his face.
"His diaper is on backwards, sweetheart," Madeline replied. Sam's proud smile turned into a frown.
"This is why I don't change diapers," Sam said as he passed the baby over to Madeline. Madeline rolled her eyes and took the baby.
"Your daddy is still new at all of this," she said as she cradled the boy against her body. Sam couldn't help but to roll his eyes, but he wrapped an arm around her shoulder and pulled her in for a hug.
"Thank you again, Mad," he said. Madeline looked up at Sam and smiled.
"You're welcome, baby."
