Previously: "I have to try Bugenhagen-sama," answered Sakura as she was wearing pink skin tight shorts to her knees, orange shirt and a red jacket, brown travel boots and her mother's armlet on her left wrist. "I'm afraid that monster Hojo might be doing horrible experiments to Master Nanaki. I have to go save Master Nanaki, otherwise he'll suffer just like my mother suffered even after we escaped from ShinRa Tower and Midgar."
Bugenhagen sighed as he said, "Then I wish you luck in your journey. Stay safe and out of ShinRa's reach if you can."
"I will Bugenhagen-sama," replied Sakura as she bowed to Bugenhagen before leaving.
After traveling for three months, Sakura finally reached the city of Midgar. Sakura took a big sigh as she looked upward at the plate of Sector 5 and then to the gate that would let her into the city controlled by ShinRa and what she considered to be the heart of darkness.
"Don't worry Master Nanaki," Sakura said to herself after using moisture to force the gate into Sector 5 open, "I'm coming to rescue to you from that monster Hojo."
Little would Sakura Hisato know that she would she be caught up in struggle for the life of the Planet.
1: ShinRa Tower Chronicle
Nanaki's POV:
My time in ShinRa Tower wasn't the best highlight of my life. I acquired tattoos and was experimented on by Hojo. But it was also the time that I met rest of AVALANCHE and reunited with my student, even though I had instructed her to stay in Cosmo Canyon where she was safe from ShinRa. Nonetheless, I was glad to see Sakura. But what surprised me was how she got to the ShinRa Tower and even Midgar itself.
3rd Person POV
Beneath Don Corneo's Mansion
Sector 6 Sewers, Midgar
Sakura Hisato huffed as she had been stuck in the sewers for two days after Don Corneo dropped her in the sewers because she wouldn't be his 'bitch.' Sakura had survived constant attacks from the local inhabitants of the sewers and they backed away after the 42nd Sahagin was slain with his two other companions by a Comet2 spell that killed them off easily. Sakura rolled her eyes after the next batch of Sahagin ran away from her in fear or after hearing three voices coming from the same chute that she fell down in. Sakura then pulled her sword out ready to attack whoever came out of the chute. She placed herself at the corner of the elevated walk way. When the three owners of those voices came down the chute, Sakura readied to attack. As she readied to attack, Sakura saw tow of the people from her dreams from 7 years ago as she saw two flashes from her dream and then shook her head and put her sword away and approached the trio slowly and noticed the blonde spiky haired guy helped the ladies with him.
"You alright?" the blonde spiky haired named asked the young woman in a pink dress, red jacket and traveling boots named Aeris.
"Yeah, I'm fine," answered Aeris as she got up off the ground.
Then Cloud turned to the other young lady with him wearing a white tank top shirt, a black skirt that went down to an inch above her knees, a leather belt, suspenders, teardrop earrings and red boots and red and black gloves that extended from her hands to her elbows. The young woman's name was Tifa Lockhart and she was face down on the ground after falling from the chute. Sakura was quick to approach the three as they were getting up off the ground. Cloud and the two ladies with him noticed Sakura approaching them and became tense as she approached them. Before Cloud could draw his sword, Aeris gently laid a hand on Cloud's left shoulder to get his attention.
"She's not an enemy, Cloud," stated Aeris. "But there's something about her that seems familiar to me."
"I'll take that as a compliment," Sakura said to Aeris as she jumped to the ground trickling water from the raised area.
"Just who are you?" asked Tifa.
"My name is Sakura," answered the 14 year-old teenage girl as she bowed to the party. "I'm Sakura Hisato. I was born in Wutai and live in a village overlooking the red dusted canyon."
"Nice to meet you Sakura Hisato," Aeris said as she gave Sakura curt nod. "I'm Aeris Gainsborough."
"I'm Tifa Lockhart," replied Tifa as she gave a curt nod and small smile to Sakura. "The spiky-haired blonde guy is Cloud Strife." Cloud just rolled his eyes and shook his head as he either didn't care or the thought having a new party member was going to slow him down.
"At least the worst is over for now," Aeris as she tried to liven up the mood.
As Aeris said she thought the worst was over, everyone heard a loud roar coming their way. This roar echoed throughout the sewers. Sakura was quick to draw out her sword and said, "Sounds like Corneo had a little pet waiting for those who wouldn't be his 'bitch'."
A large monster then smashed through a gate eager to have its next meal. This creature looked like a deformed minotaur.
"Let's talk later, right now you could use my help," Sakura said to Cloud and the other two ladies as she readied her sword and was already prepared for battle. Cloud just rolled his eyes and sighed as he looked to Tifa.
"Can you sit this fight out?" Cloud asked Tifa. "I guess we should see how strong she is."
"It's fine Cloud," Tifa replied as she gave a thoughtful nod and moved out of the battlefield to a raised walkway.
Sakura then placed herself in the third slot and then noticed that her the gem in her sword was glowing as if it could sense something important. The deformed minotaur then unleashed what appeared to a tsunami of dirty water. Before either Cloud or Aeris could react, Sakura made the first move as she stood in front of them. She placed her sword in front of her and began to concentrate on the aquamarine gem in her sword as it was glowing a brighter aqua blue.
"Not happening today," Sakura said to the creature that unleashed tidal wave of dirty water at the party.
Sakura's sword then absorbed the dirty tsunami coming at them by absorbing it into the sword. Sakura then gave a grin as she sent the attack as a powerful tsunami attack using the water that had been purified as well. This was a shock to Cloud and his companions as they saw Sakura absorbing the tsunami in her sword and sending it back at the creature and gave it quite a shocking surprise to see it's attack was purified and sent back at it.
"Whoa," Cloud said in awe of Sakura's power.
"She's powerful if she was able to absorb that creature's attack and send it back," observed Aeris.
Sakura then took a deep breath and returned to her fighting stance and gave a nod to Cloud and Aeris as they went into battle with the creature as the creature as still stunned for the moment. Sakura then decided that she showed a little too much of her power and moved to the back ranks providing defensive support like casting Wall, Haste, and Reflect and using her Enemy Skill Materia and casting White Wind whenever someone was injured. Aeris was the first to use one of her Limit Breaks against the creature.
"Seal Evil," called out Aeris as she instantly inflicted the Silence and Stop status on the minotaur-like like called called Aps, according to Sakura as she apparently had a Sense Materia equipped on her armor. Cloud was next as he used his next best powerful Limit Break on the Aps creature.
"Cross Slash," Cloud called out as inflicted multiple slashes on the creature and paralyzed it.
"Cosmo Fury," called out Sakura.
Cloud and Aeris watched Sakura with interest as they saw Sakura using her Cosmo Fury Limit Break on Aps. She had cast herself in the Fury Status, gathered up Fire elemental energy to her sword blade and swung it at the Aps creature causing the it shriek in pain and clutch it's chest.
"Amazing," commented Aeris she saw the Aps double back in pain.
"Be amazed later," suggested Cloud, "He's pissed!"
Once more the Aps creature summoned a tsunami of water from behind the party. Sakura however huffed in frustration as she held her sword out, turned to the tsunami and absorbed it once again to shock of the Aps creature. Instead of sending the water back at the creature, Sakura then used the energy of the attack to form a healing barrier around the party.
"Damn, she's powerful," remarked Cloud after he lunged at Aps and took a swing at it.
Aeris did not reply, but cast a Fire Spell at the Aps creature and was close to killing it.
"I'll finish it off," said Sakura as she looked to the Master Magic Materia in her sword. "Contain! FLARE!"
An immense flame struck the Aps creature, killing it at last and dropping a Phoenix Down for the party.
Once the creature was dead, it returned to the Planet and Sakura took a deep breath as sheathed her sword.
"Well, that was easy," Sakura said with a grin on her face before taking a knee. "Wouldn't you guys agree?"
The older party members silently nodded in agreement as they quickly got over the shock of seeing Sakura finishing off the Aps.
"You're really powerful," commented Aeris. "But it must take a lot out of you to use so much power."
"No kidding," agreed Tifa.
"It does take a bit out of me," Sakura said as she caught her breath. "But I need to ask you for a favor. You don't have to accept if you don't want to."
"A favor?" asked Cloud. "It's kinda odd that a stranger is asking for a favor from us."
"Don't worry, I'll pay you guys back somehow," assured Sakura. "I'm good on my word."
Aeris looked to Cloud as she replied to Sakura, "I don't think it would be a problem for us to help you out with your favor.
"Right Cloud?" asked Aeris as she looked to the ex-SOLDIER with Tifa looking at him as well.
Cloud face palmed himself as he sighed and said, "Alright you can join us. Just don't slow us down."
Sakura just smiled and replied, "Don't worry, I won't slow you down."
In the ShinRa Tower, Nanaki sighed as looked around to see multiple research assistants in lab coats doing multiple things in different directions. One person in particular approached the glass container with an evil grin on his face. This person was the head of the ShinRa Science Department, Hojo.
"And how is my precious specimen today?" Hojo asked Nanaki, but got no reply from the lion-type creature. "As soon as we get that Cetra girl, you'll be part of a glorious experiment."
Nanaki narrowed his eyes at the mention of Sakura's heritage as a part of the Cetra race. He knew about the Cetra from the elders of Cosmo Canyon and even his grandfather.
'Sakura, I just hope that you're not here in Midgar,' thought Nanaki as Hojo walked towards one of the Turks.
"Yes Hojo?" asked the leader of the Turks, Tseng.
"Yes, I need you to retrieve the Cetra girl," Hojo answered as he pinched the bridge of his nose. "We need her so that fool, President Shinra can have his Neo-Midgar project on schedule."
Tseng sighed as he closed his eyes and shook his head hoping that he wouldn't have to bring in Aeris for the Neo-Midgar project. He tried to get her cooperate willingly and then kept a close eye on her as she was younger. Tseng was hoping this time that Aeris would come quietly and cooperate this time with the Neo-Midgar project.
Back in the slums, the party exited the sewers and entered the Sector 7 Train Graveyard with Sakura going ahead of the party scouting ahead while the others exited the sewer.
"Aeris, I got you mixed up in all of this," Cloud said to the flower girl as he, Aeris and Tifa exited the sewers.
"Don't tell me to go home," pleaded Aeris.
Before anyone else in the party could speak up, Sakura jumped down from the train she was standing on and keeping a watch on.
"Looks like we can just follow the trains that are lit up and get the heck outta here," said Sakura.
"There are too many ghosts here and there's something else here." Sakura reported to her three older party members. "But we can make it through here provided that we remain quiet like shadows."
"That's gonna be difficult to do," commented Cloud.
"I picked up a few items while I scouted the area," continued Sakura. "Got a Hi Potion, Echo Screen and a Tent to use at rest points to recover and heal our wounds."
"Not bad," whistled Cloud.
"There's more to my little treasure hunt," Sakura informed the party. "I managed to also get six Ghost Hands, six Graviballs and stole a couple Ethers too."
Tifa was marveled by the items that Sakura had acquired and gave a giggle as she said, "Guess we have a full time treasure hunter. I think Barret would like her."
"Worry about that later," said Sakura. "Let's move before the enemy gets the drop on us. I left a trail for us to follow."
Cloud give a slight nod as he let Sakura take the lead as she blazed a trail to the next area. Once they got to the next area, Sakura then heard noises familiar with the enemy she warned her fellow party members about.
"Guys, watch out!" Sakura called out to the Cloud, Aeris and Tifa as a specter, riding on a semi skeletal horse attacked the party.
The other party members saw the enemy approaching them and Cloud had to duck out of the way which caused him to be out of party and Sakura was quick to fill in the void and cast the Big Guard Enemy Skill on herself, Aeris and Tifa.
"Huh?" asked a dumbfounded Tifa. "Why do I feel much faster?"
"That's the Big Guard Enemy Skill," answered Sakura. "It casts Barrier, MBarrier and Haste simultaneously."
"That's incredible," replied Aeris as she cast an Ice spell on the enemy specter.
The specter lashed back at Aeris by casting the Silence spell and effectively shutting down her ability to use magic spells.
"That's just great," huffed Tifa. "Aeris is our primary magic user."
"Not to worry my friend," Sakura replied cheerfully to Tifa, "I've got that problem taken care of.
Sakura then used another Enemy Skill, this time on the party again.
"Enemy Skill, White Wind," called out Sakura as a healing wind of white erupted from the ground and gently enveloped the party, healing them completely and removing any status problem.
Aeris got back on her feet and took her battle stance. She glared at the specter as she wanted to get back at the specter for shutting down her magic usage. But Tifa was first to strike at the specter and its steed. After Tifa struck the specter, Sakura came in and mugged the undead creature, successfully stealing a new weapon for Aeris.
"Hey Aeris, I just got you a new weapon," Sakura announced to her comrade. "Now let's put it down for good.
"Agreed," replied Aeris and Tifa as they gave their young comrade a slight nod and readied themselves.
"Seal Evil!" shouted Aeris as she struck back at Eligor, as the creature was called thanks to the Sense
Materia she used on the creature.
"Beat Rush!" exclaimed Tifa as she continued to ride the momentum that Sakura had created. "Somersault!"
Once Eligor was struck by the final blow, it died and left behind another item for the party. The three girls high-fived each other.
"Alright, we rock," Sakura said happily.
"Oh yeah," agreed Tifa.
"Girl power," Aeris added cheerfully.
"Uh, when you're done patting yourselves on the back, can we get to the pillar?" Cloud asked the girls, earning him a dark glare from them that could've killed him in an instant. [Yes readers, even Aeris can get pissed off]
Cloud was quick to rejoin the party and the group quietly filed out of the Train Graveyard and to Sector 7 where there were people gathering around.
"We made it, the pillar's still standing," Tifa said with a sigh of relief.
"You guys hear something... above us?" Cloud asked the ladies.
"It sounds like gunfire," answered Sakura for Aeris.
After Sakura had answered Cloud's question a person then fell 20 stories from the top of pillar. Cloud looked to see and found out it was one of his companions from the past two jobs he did with AVALANCHE. Once Cloud was informed that his 'boss,' Barret, was on the top of the pillar, he ordered everyone to clear out of Sector 7.
"Aeris, Sakura, do me a favor," began Tifa, "I have a bar called '7th Heaven' in this neighborhood. There's a little girl named Marlene there..."
Sakura gave Tifa a reassuring wink and grin as she proudly informed Tifa, "No worries. We'll get her to safety."
"Wait, you're not going with them?" Aeris asked Sakura in confusion.
"No, they don't need my help right now," answered Sakura. "I'll go find the little girl, you stay here and see if you can tend to him."
Aeris gave a nod as Sakura entered the slums went to the 7th Heaven bar. Sakura looked to find a 6 year-old girl manning the bar, but was quaking in fear.
"Is your name Marlene?" Sakura asked the little girl.
"Y-Yes, who are you?" asked a frightened Marlene.
"I'm a friend of Tifa Lockhart," answered Sakura. "My name is Sakura and she asked me and another friend to come get you to a safe place."
Marlene was a bit hesitant at first to go with Sakura, but took her hand and they left the bar. They were quick to rejoin Aeris as she shook her head in sadness as Wedge died. Sakura showed Aeris that she got Marlene.
"Now where do we take her?" Sakura asked Aeris.
"We'll take her to my house in Sector 5," answered Aeris as she took Marlene's hand and lead the way to back towards her home in Sector 5.
While Cloud and Tifa battled their way up the pillar, Aeris and Sakura were close to approaching Aeris's home when ShinRa troops suddenly began to pursue them. Sakura turned and saw the enclosing ShinRa troops and narrowed her eyes at them.
"Take Marlene and go," urged Sakura as she shoved Aeris to the passage to Aeris's house, "I'll hold them off while you get to your house.
Sakura then took her Materia and the pouch she had with her, equipped her Materia to Aeris's weapon and armor and finished, "I want you to take this Materia with you. I'm trusting you alone with the pouch and Materia equipped in it."
"But what about you?" Aeris asked with great concern. "You'll need Materia if you're going to fight ShinRa."
"I have a special ability that I've had since the day I was born," replied Sakura with a grin on her face. "Now go, both of you. Get to safety while I hold them back."
Aeris looked to a frightened Marlene and then back to Sakura, who gave her a reassuring nod before drawing her sword and taking a battle stance as people living in the slums took cover to avoid getting caught in the crossfire of the incoming battle. Aeris then gave a slight nod to Sakura and hurried off with Marlene to safety. As Aeris and Marlene ran towards Aeris's house, Aeris took one look to Sakura and shook her head. The black-haired leader of the Turks appeared in front of Sakura along with some of the ShinRa Tower's best guards. Guards in red and black armor and packing heavy firepower. There were four of the red and black armored soldiers.
"Don't you think that's a bit excessive?" Sakura asked the leader of the Turks.
"Really?" countered Tseng. "And you don't think you're being overconfident?"
"No I'm only here for one reason and that's to get my master out of that god awful tower," lashed back Sakura. "But enough talking. On to brawling with you ShinRa bastards."
Tseng just gave a slight grin and motioned for one of the armored guards to charge past Sakura and go after Aeris and Marlene. However, Sakura saw this and intercepted him by slicing his right arm off. The guard cried out in pain and viciously swung at Sakura trying to kill her for losing his right arm. Sakura skillfully dodged the vicious swings and impaled the armored guard through his chest, effectively killing him.
"Like I said, on to brawling with you ShinRa bastards," snarled Sakura as she took a fighting stance.
Tseng then studied Sakura for a moment as he said, "You resemble her. Much like a younger version of Aeris."
Sakura then took advantage of Tseng's momentary lapse and made a run for it with the three remaining guards shooting at her and bringing Tseng back to reality. The leader of the Turks followed the three armored soldiers shouting to them that they were not to kill their intended target. The fighting then reached Aeris's home as Sakura then stood in front of the door blocking it from the ShinRa soldiers and Tseng.
"Out of our way," ordered Tseng. "You're not our primary target for capture."
"Really, then I guess you'll just have to capture me... INSTEAD!" shouted Sakura as she used her power and formed a large wall of water that crashed down and swept two of the armored soldiers away in the mighty torrent and knocked Tseng off his feet nearly sweeping him into the torrent as well. Tseng widened his eyes in shocked at Sakura's display of power. Sakura however took a knee while leaning on her sword for support as she used a lot of her power. Tseng was quick to get up as Sakura eyed the Turks leader.
"Look, you can take me as your hostage and let my friends walk away," offered Sakura much to Tseng's surprise. "I know ShinRa wants someone from the Cetra, so you might as well take me because I'm one of them as well."
Meanwhile, an hour later at the Sector 7 Pillar, AVALANCHE had just finished fighting against Reno of the Turks, ShinRa's elite spies.
"Cloud! I don't know how to stop it," Tifa said to Cloud as she tried to out what to do with the emergency plate release. "Try it."
Cloud approached the console and examined it, shaking his head as he had no clue on how to disarm it either.
"It's not a normal time bomb," Cloud informed Tifa.
"That's right," said the leader of the Turks as a helicopter hovered slightly above Cloud, Tifa and the leader of AVALANCHE, Barret Wallace. "You'll have a hard time disarming that one. It'll blow the second some stupid jerk touches it."
"Please stop it," Tifa pleaded with Tseng.
Tseng only laughed in their faces and replied, "Only a ShinRa executive can set up or disarm the Emergency Plate Release System."
"Shut yer hole!" Barret shouted as he fired his gun arm at the helicopter nearly hitting the young girl on her knees at Tseng's side.
"I wouldn't try that..." Tseng began in a mocking tone. "You might make me injure our special guest."
The young girl then raised her head to see Cloud and Tifa looking in horror as they thought that Aeris had been captured by Tseng.
"Aeris!" exclaimed Tifa.
"Oh... you know each other?" Tseng asked Tifa in mocking tone. "How nice you could see each other one last time. You should be thanking me."
"What are you going to with Aeris?" asked Cloud as he slightly stepped forward.
"I haven't decided yet," answered Tseng as he was feigned a smug look on his face. "Our orders were to find the last remaining Ancient. It's taken us a long time, but now I can finally report this to the President."
The young girl, Sakura, then leaned over the side of the helicopter as she said, "Don't worry Cloud... Tifa, they're both safe."
Tseng then took charge and slapped the Wutai born teenager back into the helicopter and that wasn't something she was going to let slide as she balled her left hand into a fist and punched Tseng in the one place that men hate to get punched, right between the legs. Cloud and Tifa were shocked to see Sakura retaliating and then Tifa said, "I don't think that Aeris would fight back..."
Tifa then looked to Cloud and asked, "Would Aeris fight back?"
"Yes, but not give a guy a cheap shot like that," answered Cloud.
"I dunno who she is, but I like her already," Barret said with a grin on his face.
"Look, don't worry about me," Sakura informed Tifa and Cloud. "Aeris is safe and so is the little girl. All of you need to get out now."
The chopper pilot then pulled up and away from the falling pillar as it began to fall apart. For Sakura, it seemed that things were going to plan. She was heading to the ShinRa Tower to free her master from the scientist Hojo. Within the hour, the chopper landed at the top of the ShinRa Tower. As the chopper landed, Sakura was quick break free and strike down two Grenade Combatants. Sakura then bolted down the ShinRa tower looking for her master and fighting ShinRa security along the way. For the president of the ShinRa Power Company, this was a complete embarrassment and ordered a search for her.
As this was happening, Sakura had already penetrated into the tower's heart and even so far as to go down into the vault. When it was informed that Sakura was in the vaults, President Shinra had no choice but to call on a secret group of soldiers that lived even deeper under the ShinRa Tower. As the President made the call, Sakura was having a ball causing mayhem in the vaults as she assumed that the laboratory was in the vault. As she proceeded through the vaults, she encountered display cases with Materia orbs in them and gave a big grin as she then proceeded to smash the display cases and steal the Materia in them.
"Hmm... an Enemy Skill, Slash-All, Water, Wind," began Sakura as she was ticking off her recently acquired cache of Materia. "Another set of HP Plus and MP Plus Materia, an Elemental Materia, and... eh? What's a Leviathan Materia doing here?"
"ShinRa acquired it from your homeland after defeating Wutai in the great war," said a chilling and sinister voice behind Sakura. "Now you will have to come with me. Professor Hojo is anxious to meet you."
"You're not gonna make me put the Materia I acquired back?" Sakura asked the nine foot person behind her.
"I could care less for Materia," answered the tall man behind her named Azul the Cerulean. "I do not use it and they seem to collect dust down here."
It wasn't an hour later, that Sakura was captured by Azul the Cerulean and taken to the President directly.
"You know your security sucks when you have to call on soldiers from your 'private' army," Sakura informed the President of the ShinRa Corporation before being taken down to where she was to be confined.
Azul was quick to drop off Sakura on 68th Floor and went back to where he came from.
"It's my fault she got captured," Aeris said sadly as she sat in the guest bedroom.
"It couldn't be helped," Tifa said as she tried to calm Aeris down. "At least she helped you get Marlene to safety."
It was then that Barret entered the guest room and threw the door open as he looked to Aeris.
"Yo, I hear from my little girl, you helped bring her here along with another girl," Barret said as he looked to the Cetra girl.
Aeris looked to the leader of AVALANCHE and answered softly, "Yes. But she was taken to ShinRa Tower in my place."
Barret then looked to the flower girl with a slight grin as he said, "Then I guess we 'juz go there and bust her out of there."
"I think she wanted to be captured by ShinRa," Aeris replied to Barret with a worried look on her face.
"Wha? Why the hell would anyone wanna get captured by the ShinRa?!" demanded Barret as he raised his arms and shook them violently. "It don't make no &$^#)'n sense why anyone would wanna get captured by them."
"I think she mentioned something about wanting to rescue her master from clutches of ShinRa," Aeris spoke up.
After reorganizing the party and Aeris strongly insisting that she be in the party because she wanted to join the effort to rescue Sakura from ShinRa Tower, the group then made their way back to Wall Market and with little bit of information, they found a way up to the plate and ShinRa Tower.
"Now we gonna have us a party," Barret said with a big grin on his as he looked at the wire. "Time to climb up this golden shiny wire of hope."
"Okay, bad analogy, but I understand how you feel," Cloud said to Barret.
The party then began the long climb up the wire, broken debris as they had to create make-shift bridges, climb pipes and even collect an Ether along the way up to the main plate. As they made their way to the main plate, the party arrived in the front of the ShinRa building where at first the party was 'greeted' by a trio of Grenade Combatants guarding the entrance of the ShinRa building. Aeris quickly disposed of them thanks to the use Sakura's Master Magic Materia as well as the MP Plus Materia that she was borrowing from her as well. After disposing of the Grenade Combatants, the party then had to decide on how they were going to enter ShinRa Tower.
"Come on, we gotta bust in and make our entrance," Barret said as he was ready to bust in gun-ho.
"We should sneak in so we don't have them all coming at us," insisted Tifa on the side of caution.
Aeris remained silent, content with whatever the group decided to do. For the flower girl, as long as Sakura was rescued it didn't matter to her. Barret and Tifa then looked to Cloud in what what he wanted to do.
"Yo Cloud, whaddya wanna do?" asked Barret.
"I say we bust on in," answered Cloud. "ShinRa's got it coming to them anyway."
"Now 'yer talking," Barret said with enthusiasm. "Let's make our presence known and get the kid outta there."
The party then entered the building where a secretary looked to the incoming party with a bored look on her face.
"I must ask if you have an appointment here," the secretary informed the storming party.
Barret then looked to the secretary and pointed his gun-arm at her saying, "This my appointment. We're in a hurry and got us an emergency. We're AVALANCHE."
"AVALANCHE?!" screamed startled people as they heard the name of the terrorist group that at one time tried destroy ShinRa at one time and came close to doing it too.
Everyone in the lobby then scattered as Cloud and the others entered the building. It wasn't long before ShinRa security arrived to try and put the party down or at least apprehend them. Once again, Aeris stepped up and struck down the enemies using an Enemy Skill from the Yellow Command Materia equipped in her armor. Aeris sighed at the fact that she once again had to kill enemies. It certainly bothered her, but it was something that couldn't helped at the moment. Aeris needed to be focused on saving Sakura from the clutches of ShinRa. There was no telling what Hojo was going to do Sakura or was already doing to her. She faintly remembered that Hojo had tried to put himself on her own mother and that didn't go so well for Hojo. The professor had gotten kicked in the nuts by Aeris's mother, Iflana, and that was how she and Aeris escaped from ShinRa Tower. The party fought their way to the elevator on the second floor.
As the party got on the elevator, Aeris closed her eyes and let out a long sigh. Barret then looked to the flower girl and then said, "Hey, don't worry about it. We'll find the kid and get her outta this damn hell hole."
"I hope you're right Mr. Barret," Aeris replied. "I just hope that Hojo doesn't do anything harmful."
"Alright, let's get two things straight," Barret began as he looked at Aeris. "One, ya ain't need to call me 'Mr. Barret.' Two, we gonna get to that kid, in no time. Just need to find out where she's being kept."
Before Cloud could say something, the alarms went off and a series of battles began as the party then had to fight waves of enemies from the ShinRa security forces. With Sakura's Materia, Aeris had little difficulty dispensing the waves of security forces while maintaining her magic power with the Magic Hammer Enemy Skill.
"I'm really surprised to see that you can use high level magic early on," Tifa observed to Aeris.
"That's only possible, thanks to Sakura's MP Plus Materia," replied Aeris. "It increased my MP a bit to where I can use it."
"That's really cool," said Barret as he let out a low whistle in amazement.
"Think you could share the Materia she gave you?" Cloud asked Aeris.
Unfortunately, Aeris shook her head and answered, "Sakura entrusted her Materia to me only. I'm sorry guys."
"Yo, it's cool," Barret said in a calm tone. "I wouldn't blame the kid. Seems you're the only one who's more skilled in using Materia than all of us."
The party then exited the elevator on the 59th Floor only to run into three more ShinRa security guards in red and black armor.
"Intruders! Seize them!" exclaimed the lead guard.
The three guards were quick to pounce on the party first as they opened with an opening barrage. Aeris then used one of the spells from what would've come from the Restore Materia.
"Restore, Regen," called out Aeris as the party was then enveloped in a soft orange light that brightened and dissipated, regenerating their health gradually. Barret was eager to get into the battle as he opened fire on the three guards shouting and cursing at them. Cloud however dodged the shots from the three guards and at the first chance he got, used the Sense Materia they got at the Sector 6 playground.
"These guys are called Mighty Grunts," Cloud said to Aeris and Barret. "Got about 212 HP, not much in the way of MP though."
"That's fine with me," Barret said with a grin. "ShinRa can set 'em up and we just knock 'em down."
Aeris was disgusted with having to fight with ShinRa Security forces, but there was no other option. She sighed and then concentrated on the Yellow Command Materia, Enemy Skill, and focused it on the the three guards as their bulky red and black armor dissipated revealing that they had lighter black armor.
"Enemy Skill, Marta Magic," Aeris called out as a salvo of missiles launched from the Command Materia she used and struck the three guards.
As Cloud and the others made their way up the tower, one ShinRa executive, Reeve Tuesti, had gone up to the 68th Floor to see who Hojo had captured. To the head Urban Development, the Neo-Midgar Project was just a waste of time for ShinRa. But the only thing he could do was head for the meeting to discuss the next stage of the ShinRa's plan. Things were getting out of hand and the head of Urban Development was about to consider abandoning ship with the ShinRa. Reeve noticed the young teenage Wutai-born girl and then went strode back to the stairs and towards the 66th Floor.
After a few hair-raising moments on the 60th Floor with more Mighty Grunts, the party made their way up to the 62nd Floor where the mayor of Midgar had his office along with a huge library of ShinRa Corporation secrets and research projects. Outside the door of the mayor's office was a man in a business suit. He noticed Cloud, Aeris and Barret exploring the floor and that they were approaching him.
"Can I help you?" asked the deputy mayor. "I'm the deputy mayor of Midgar. If you have any questions, just speak to me."
The party then entered the mayor's office and met with the mayor himself. The mayor of Midgar explained to the party what he did for the ShinRa and offered to give them a keycard to up to the 65th Floor if they could guess his password of the day. The party had no idea what his password was and filed out of his office. As they left his office, the deputy mayor approached them.
"You spoke to the Mayor, right?" asked the deputy mayor. Cloud gave a slight nod to him and the deputy mayor continued, "What? A password? Oh, I get it..."
The deputy mayor then gave them a hint... after they paid him a 'good amount' of money for a hint. The deputy mayor had pointed the party to the libraries that the mayor was in charge of looking after.
"Now why do we gotta find this password for the mayor?" asked Barret in a not so happy mood.
"Because he'll give us a keycard to go up higher," answered Cloud. "We have to make sure that we find the password the first time."
"Cloud I found a book that doesn't belong here," Aeris said to Cloud as she showed Cloud and Barret the out of place book. "Maybe the password are books that are out of place."
"Now that don't make any sense at all," replied Barret as he saw the out of place book. "I thought the password would be in one of these books."
After finding the out of place books, the party went back to the mayor and gave the mayor their guess hoping it would be right.
"That's right, Mako is the password," answered the Mayor cheerfully. "Mako. I just the love the sound of that.
"As promised you can have the keycard that'll take you up to the 65th Floor," continued the mayor as he handed them the promised keycard. "And since you got it on the first time, I'll throw this Materia in as a little bonus. Why would I do this you ask? They have me stuck here keeping watch over their books and research materials. I figured that I'd stick to them this way as revenge for sticking me down here."
After thanking the mayor, the party proceeded up the tower after collecting an All Materia, a Star Pendant and another piece of armor called Four Slots, all of which promptly went Aeris since she was a the group's primary magic user. Strangely enough, the dispensing machine accidentally spit out another Star Pedant.
Cloud grabbed his overlarge sword and effortlessly hefted it over his head. "Fine then. As soon as everyone is equipped, then we can get back to rescuing Sakura." The spiky-haired blond man told the rest of his party. "We still have some ways to go before we can reach the top and rescue Sakura. And the less grunts we get to fight, the better."
"Yes, you're right." Aeris answered, checking that every piece of equipment was in place. "I just hope nothing happened to her."
"Don't worry yer head off, Missy." Barret answered, checking his hand-mounted machine gun. "Those jackasses need her live an' well, ain't that right? They ain't gonna hurt her. Still, I wanna save the kid just as much as you do."
Cloud got ready to face the rest of the climb up ShinRa Building, though he did have a few questions nagging at the back of his head. He still didn't know much about the Ancients, and he felt that a little more information would have helped clear up a few mysteries…
He suddenly grit his teeth and widened his eyes in pain as something seemed to pop up in his head, and his vision blurred, substituted by a blinding white background. A spike of pain forced him on his knees, barely aware of his comrades rushing to his side in obvious worry…
"Cloud!" Tifa exclaimed.
"Cloud, how are you feeling? Are you okay?" Aeris asked, kneeling beside the blond mercenary.
"You alright?" Barret ventured. "C'mon, snap outta it!"
"In my veins courses the blood of the Ancients. I am one of the rightful heirs to this planet." An aloof-sounding voice resonated in his head, one that was awfully familiar to the young swordsman. His vision clearing gradually, Cloud tentatively stood up and rubbed his aching forehead, a name spontaneously coming to his mind.
"Sephiroth?" he asked, addressing no one in particular. A blurred image of his former companion, with his long silver hair, his deadly sword which he wielded with horrific skill, and that trademark, aloof expression in his eyes, as if he thought everyone else was beneath him. It was only when his vision returned completely that Cloud was able to see everyone around him… especially Aeris, who placed a gentle hand on his forehead and tried to see if everything was okay with him.
"Are you all right, Cloud?" Aeris asked, a worried Tifa at her side.
"Pull it together, man." Barret grabbed Cloud's shoulder and shook him out of his reverie, to which Cloud shook his head and tried to make it look like nothing was wrong.
"It's nothing, really… I just thought I saw something I remember…" he tried to assuage his companions' fears, even though he knew he was not going to be too successful. But before the questioning could continue, there were some heavy footsteps, and something busted its way through the wall, sending debris scattered everywhere and landing in front of Cloud and the others, shocking them for a moment with its quickness combined with its sheer size! It was a Hell House, a robotic creature that looked like some sort of armored turtle with a small house instead of a shell. Cloud grit his teeth. He already had experience of fighting those things, and it was never a fun experience.
"Everyone, be careful!" Cloud warned, grabbing his sword and twirling it over his head as the huge beastly robot began moving towards them, slowly and ponderously. "This thing is never good news. It might seem ridiculous, but it packs a lot of firepower!"
"Okay, we'll be careful!" Tifa said, keeping her guard high while the Hell House came closer and closer. As soon as it was withing range, Barret fired a salvo of bullets from his arm-mounted machine gun, grunting a curse when he saw that the Hell House's armor had managed to hold.
"We're gonna need more firepower for this thing!" Barret exclaimed, recharging his weapon.
"Who needs firepower, when you have me and the Materia I possess?" Aeris asked calmly and with a slight smile. "Um... temporarily, of course."
Cloud fell face forward anime style, as Aeris mentioned that the Materia she had was only hers temporarily. Then Cloud was about to ask her something sarcastically, but squelched the thought as they had to deal with what looked like a prototype based off one of the monsters they fought in the Sector 6 slums on occasion.
"Show that bitch, ya ain't a pushover, Missy," Barret encouraged Aeris.
"Gladly," acknowledged Aeris as she focused her power into the Master Magic Materia. "Let's see you handle this! Earth, Quake2!"
Then, Earth-based magic caused a damaging tremor to hit the prototype robot causing it to short circuit and began to fail.
"You gotta be kidding me!" exclaimed Cloud as the party saw the the prototype Hell House robot had survived the Quake 2 spell.
"Never fear, Barret is here to save the day!" exclaimed the Corel Village native as then focused energy to his gun arm and sent it at the weakened prototype. "Take this you ShinRa bitch knock off! Big Shot!"
The prototype robot finally blew up as it was defeated and left behind valuable items.
"Looks like we got a Hyper, a Hi-Potion, and... the hell?!" asked a startled Cloud as noticed a Materia lying on the floor. "It's a green Magic Materia, but it looks so... rare."
"Eh, rare? How so Cloud?" asked Aeris as she stood by the spiky-haired ex-SOLDIER.
"Here, maybe you can tell," Cloud answered as he handed the Magic Materia to Aeris.
"Huh?! How did ShinRa get this Materia?" asked Aeris as she had sensed the Materia's power. "This a weaker version of my White Materia, but it's still quite powerful though."
Barret had no clue what Aeris was talking about. The only thing that Barret knew about Materia, was what he learned from others. Nothing like what Cloud tried to teach him and especially what Aeris was talking about.
"We should keep moving," insisted Aeris. "No telling if ShinRa has more of those robots roaming the building."
Cloud gave a slight nod of agreement to Aeris's statement. The longer they stayed there, the more likely ShinRa would catch them. As the party advanced to the next floor, leaving the smoldering wreckage the Hell House robot behind them on the 63rd Floor and proceeded another two floors, but not before pillaging the 64th Floor for valuable items.
"Who in their right mind leaves a Megaphone behind?" Cloud asked his two party members.
"Dunno, maybe some dumbass nut job," answered Barret.
Cloud then noticed as they came up the stairs a chest. He approached it and tried to open it with no success at all. Barret took notice and asked, "Yo, something wrong?"
"Gotta find a way to open this chest," answered Cloud as he looked at the chest.
After a hair raising hour on the 65th floor, the chest at the stairway finally was unlocked and Cloud received the keycard for the next level and proceeded up to the next level. The next level seemed like more like an office area with a large board room. As the party explored the floor, they heard the voices of top ShinRa executives.
"Let's try to find somewhere we can listen to what they're saying," suggested Aeris. "I don't think here is a good place to listen."
Cloud and Barret gave a nod of agreement and stumbled on to a restroom.
"Looks like this is a nice place for us to get close and eavesdrop on the ShinRa," said Cloud. Aeris and Barret gave a slight nod in agreement.
"You boys go first," Aeris said to them in a sickly sweet tone as she seemed to have a dark aura behind her smiling face.
"Eep!"exclaimed Cloud and Barret.
Cloud and Barret both had a sweatdrop on their foreheads and widened their eyes in terror and nodded their heads in agreement. Cloud then climbed up first, opening the vent with Barret next and the two ladies behind them. The group then came to a stop as they saw a meeting of ShinRa executives being held in the boardroom.
"Geez, that's a lot of suits," Barret said soft enough for everyone in the vent to hear.
"We have the damage estimates for Sector 7," reported the head of Urban Development, Reeve Tuesti. "Considering those factories we already set up and all the investments, the damage is estimated at approximately 10 billion Gil.
Reeve began to make calculations and continued, "The estimated cost to rebuild Sector 7 is..."
"We're not rebuilding," President Shinra informed Reeve.
"What?" asked a startled Reeve as he looked to President Shinra in shock.
"We're leaving Sector 7 as it is," answered President Shinra. "And restarting the Neo-Midgar plan."
"...Then the Ancients?" asked a confused Reeve.
"The Promised Land will soon be ours," answered the ShinRa president. "I want you to raise the Mako rates by 15%."
Sitting to President Shinra's right was a short, fat and bald guy named Palmer, who was head of ShinRa's Space Program. As soon as he heard the ShinRa president mention a rate hike, he jumped up and down and said happily, "Rate hike! Rate hike! Tra la la la! And please include the Space Program in the budget!"
After another ten minutes had gone by, the head of ShinRa's Science Department entered the boardroom with a disinterested look on his face.
"Hojo, how's the girl?" President Shinra asked black-haired scientist.
"She's a rather feisty and uncooperative specimen," Hojo answered rather coldly. "I've have to keep a rather strong security presence just to keep her contained."
"I see," said the ShinRa president.
"Tck, why don't you just break her?" asked a sassy Scarlet. "Make her realize that resisting ShinRa is useless. No one can defeat us! Not even that pathetic AVALANCHE."
"I've tried that already, Scarlet," Hojo informed the blonde-haired Head of Weapons Development. "The more I tried, the harder she fought back and killed seven security guards and destroyed and a trio of security robots in process."
"Will this hinder the Neo-Midgar plan?" asked President Shinra. "Will it hinder our plans to capture the Promised Land."
Hojo then turned his back to the executives and slightly glared at them. But he then nodded his head as he replied, "No, but the research will take 120 years. It will claim our lives and the life of the specimen as well. That's why we're going to breed her. Create one that can withstand our research for a long time."
"This meeting is now adjourned," said President Shinra as he stood up and walked away.
The other executives followed suit except for Scarlet who looked up towards the ventilation shaft and said, "Something smells."
After Scarlet left the meeting room, Cloud and the others breathed a sigh of relief and then looked to each other.
"They were talking about Sakura, right?" asked Cloud.
"I dunno," answered Barret. "But they said that the girl was feisty and uncooperative. I really like this Sakura girl. She might be a valuable member if we can get her to join up."
"The only reason she came here was to find her master," Aeris said to Barret. "I'm sure that she's going to return to wherever she journeyed from."
Barret sighed in defeat. Sakura was sounding to be a prime candidate and Barret was going to have to let her go.
"Whatever the case is, we gotta get Sakura out of here," Tifa said to the others before exiting the vent first, followed by Aeris.
After the group exited the ventilation duct, the party then began to follow the demented scientist to the next level. Once they reached the 67th Floor, the party took a quick breather. After taking a few minutes, Barret then dug into his memories of the name Hojo.
"That Hojo guy," began Barret. "He's in charge of ShinRa's Science Department. Cloud, don't you know him?"
"No, I've never him," answered Cloud. "So that's Hojo,"
The party then proceeded to follow Hojo until they were intercepted by a few members of SOLDIER.
"You gotta be kidding me," huffed Barret. "Oh well. ShinRa sets 'em up and we knock 'em down."
The battle started with Aeris using the Big Guard Enemy Skill to protect the others and help them become faster then than before. It was Cloud that made the next move, as he stole a new sword that one of the SOLDIER 3rd Class was carrying.
"Nice, a new weapon for me to have," Cloud said with a grin on his face.
"Good for you," Barret said in sarcastic tone. "Now more fighting and less chatting."
Then the three SOLDIER 3rd Class attackers, each used an Ice 2 spell on Aeris trying to take her down quickly. Fortunately for Aeris, the barriers she had in place still held and took only half the damage from each Ice 2 spell sent at her by the three 3rd class members of SOLDIER.
"You bastards should know better then gangin' up on a lady," Barret shouted at the members of SOLDIER. "Where I come from, ya ain't getting any leniency for ganging up on a lady."
Barret was quick to use his Big Shot Limit Break at one of the members of SOLDIER, killing him. The other two then retaliated by using by repeatedly using their Boomerang attacks on Barret to retaliate for their comrade getting killed. Cloud jumped in by using Fire Materia, linked with an All Materia inflicting Fire damage onto both surviving members.
After the battle was finished, the party proceeded onwards towards Hojo until they realized that they needed to hide behind some crates. Once the party was safely behind crates, one of Hojo's assistants came walking up to the professor.
"Sir, is the specimen?" asked the assistant as he stopped at Hojo's side looking at the lion-type creature being contained.
"Yes," answered Hojo. "We're starting right away. Raise it to the upper level.
"My precious specimen," finished Hojo as he put a hand on the glass container for a brief moment and then walked away.
Once Hojo had walked away, Aeris looked to the lion-type creature with a look of concern on her face. She sighed and closed her eyes as she had a feeling something bad was going to happen. Tifa looked at the lion-type creature with a puzzled look on her face.
"Precious specimen?" asked Tifa before looking to Barret and Aeris confused.
While no one was noticing, Cloud had noticed that there was something in a specimen tank. As Cloud looked into the tank, he heard a high pitch noise that caused him to hold his head in pain and he double backed in trying to get rid of the pain. Aeris took notice of this and quickly moved to catch him before he fell backwards on the ground.
"Are you alright?" Aeris asked Cloud as she had a look of concern on her face.
"Be strong, Cloud," added Tifa.
"Jenova, Sephiroth's... so they brought it here," Cloud said to himself before looking into the tank again. "Did you see it?"
"See what? You okay, man?" Barret asked Cloud.
"It's moving... still alive?" asked Cloud in a dumbfounded tone.
Barret then looked into the tank to see the headless specimen moving around and said, "Where its &* ! head? This whole thing is stupid. Let's keep goin'."
Once Cloud had collected himself and stood upright, the party then found a rest point and chest nearby that Cloud opened to find a Poison Materia in. Before Cloud could do anything with the Materia, Aeris snatched it out of Cloud's hands as she said, "I'll take that. I can make much use of it right now."
Cloud relented with a sigh as he knew not to argue with Aeris as she equipped the Poison Materia with the Elemental Materia the group had gotten from the Mayor on the 62nd Floor. After taking a few minutes to rest and catch their breath, the party then advanced to the next floor using the elevator nearby. Once the party boarded the elevator, they went up to the next floor where they saw a large specimen container with Sakura inside it.
"Sakura!" Aeris called out to the sleeping Wutai born teenager.
"Oh? Sakura is her name," Hojo said before looking to see he had guests. "What do you want?"
"We're taking Sakura back," Cloud said as he and Barret to began to advance on him slowly and cautiously.
"Oh? Are you going to kill me?" Hojo asked Cloud and Barret. "I don't think you should. The equipment is extremely delicate. Without me, who could operate it? Hm?"
Just thinking about made Cloud flinch for a brief moment and say, "Ugh."
"That's right," Hojo replied coldly and in a professional manner. "I recommend that you think things out logically. Now, bring in the specimen."
The assistant did as he was told as Sakura began to stir and wake up as the specimen elevator was raised. Much to the surprise of Sakura and the lion-type creature, both of them recognized each other right off the bat.
"Master?!" asked a stunned Sakura.
"Sakura!" exclaimed the lion-type creature. "What are you doing here? I thought I told you to remain in Cosmo Canyon, away from ShinRa."
"I had to come and rescue you, Master," answered Sakura.
"We'll discuss this later, Sakura," the lion-type creature said sternly as he then looked to find a way to get both of them out.
"Barret, can't you do anything?" Aeris asked the already pissed off leader of AVALANCHE.
Barret regained his composure and then aimed at the control for opening the specimen container as replied, "Awright! Step back!"
Hojo tried to stop Barret from shooting out the control panel to no avail as the container lit up brighter then a light bulb and caused Sakura to black out for a moment as the door to container opened and the lion-type creature leapt out of the container and then pounced on the head of ShinRa Science Department.
"Now's our chance to get Sakura back," Aeris said the party noticed that Hojo was a little too distracted with the lion-type creature to notice as Tifa went into the container and got Sakura off the ground of the container.
"Thank you Miss Tifa," Sakura said as she looked to the bar hostess. "I hope that little Marlene is alright."
"Yes, she's safe with Aeris's mother," answered Tifa. "But as for you, you were pretty reckless letting yourself get captured by ShinRa."
"Well, I'm going to have to hear it from my master, later on," began Sakura as she turned to hear the specimen elevator rising up.
Cloud began to step back in disbelief as the elevator began rising.
"There's something coming up the elevator," Cloud reported to the group.
"It's not just any monster but a ferocious monster," Hojo managed to say as he struggled with the lion-type creature that was trying to maul him to death.
Nanaki then turned and said to Cloud, "It's rather strong. I'll help you out."
It was then that Tifa finally noticed that Nanaki talked and said in amazement, "It talked!"
Sakura then sighed as she said, "That would be my master. Master Nanaki is his name and I have been his student ever since they took me in after my mother died."
"We'll talk later," Nanaki said to Sakura before looking to Cloud. "Right now we should take this creature down."
Cloud and Aeris then stood forward as both of them were ready to fight and Nanaki joined them for the fight while Hojo got away.
"Alright let's do this!" exclaimed Cloud as he took the lead.
The battle then started as the large creature in the back row released a poison mist trying to poison the entire party. The creature was only partly successful as only Nanaki was poisoned and Cloud and Aeris were unaffected, thanks to the Star Pendants they received on the 63rd floor. The poison wasn't enough to slow down the lion-type creature as he lashed back by casting a Fire spell hitting the large creature and its little minions out in the front row. The creature's minions didn't like the burning sensation they got from Nanaki's Fire spell and countered back with a rolling attack, a Fire spell of their own and an Ice spell, all directed at Nanaki. This damage didn't go unchecked as Aeris was ready and a solution.
"Enemy Skill, Marta Magic!" called out Aeris as flurry of missiles came out of the Yellow Command Materia and struck all three minions and the creature itself.
Cloud and Nanaki were quick to come in and finish off the three minions. Nanaki used another Fire spell on the center minion and Cloud used an Ice spell, which he had linked to an All Materia. However, the creature wasn't going to down so easily. The creature then used a spell of it's own to resurrect it's minions.
"That's not good," commented Aeris before having an idea. "Enemy Skill, Magic Hammer!"
A large hammer appeared over the head of the creature, called Sample HO512, and struck it, taking away valuable MP from the creature. Sample HO512 roared and struck back at Aeris, attacking her as it leapt from the back row and backhanded the flower girl. However, Aeris wasn't going let this slide as she once again took the initiative and then used the only the Materia that the group had earlier won from the prototype robot that looked like a Hell House from Sector 6.
"Sacred, Holy!" called out Aeris as a pure white flash of light struck Sample HO512, killing it and causing the little minions to die with the creature.
Once the creature and its minions were dead, the combatants could breathe a sigh of relief. Nanaki then looked to his student in a weakened state after the poisoning from Sample HO512 and shook his head.
"What am I going to do with you Sakura?" Nanaki asked himself as after sighing and shaking his head in disbelief.
Author's Note: I apologize for the long wait. I was busy with other projects and some issues in real life. I thank you for your patience and hope you'll wait for the next chapter. Please read and leave reviews.
