This is more popular than I anticipated…
Oh, BTW, I have a poll on my profile! Check it out! It closes June 30, so vote while you have a chance!
Now, on to the story…
Chara jumped as she heard the door slam.
"Girl! Where are you?!" yelled a man.
"In the kitchen, Uncle Vernon!" Frisk's voice called.
"Better have my lunch ready…"
Chara heard his footsteps and realized he was coming toward the living room. He entered the room, a rather fat man with a bushy mustache. He scowled at Chara.
"Who the hell are you?!" he snarled.
Frisk appeared beside him, a plate full of food in her hand.
"Who is this?!"
Before the young girl could answer, the door slammed again and three new voices filled the hallway. A woman, another young girl, and a young boy came into the living room.
"Who's that?" the girl asked, tilting her head. She had wavy blonde hair and was taller than Frisk.
"Someone that thing let into our home," Vernon snapped.
"'That thing' allowed me to stay here," Chara said, glaring.
"Well, she doesn't have the right to, Miss—"
"Chara."
The woman, obviously Petunia, covered her mouth.
"Oh, I'm sorry!" Vernon apologized, bowing. His wife, son, and daughter followed suit.
"It's fine. I'm only staying one night, then I'll find an apartment to rent."
For the rest of the day, Frisk was treated kindly by her family; Chara suspected it was only because she was there.
Chara saw Frisk frequently after she found an apartment. Most of the time, she was running errands. She looked a bit more tired than Chara remembered.
While she was taking a short break after a few weeks, she decided to sit by the fountain.
"CHARA! CHARA!"
She looked up to see Frisk's cousin, the girl—Olivia, right?—was running toward her.
"Olivia? What is it?" Chara asked. Olivia's expression was grave.
"It's Frisk," she sobbed. "She's sick! Really sick! I thought you might be able to help! I understand if you're busy, but I—"
"Say no more. She helped me without knowing my identity, so I'm willing to help her. Lead the way."
"She's in here."
Olivia opened the door to the guest room Chara had stayed in.
Frisk was in the bed, looking more dead than alive. Chara was shocked
"When did this happen?"
"This morning, she was doing her chores and she collapsed! Luckily, I was the only one home, so I brought her up here and went to get you!"
Chara frowned.
"Keep her as safe and comfortable as you can. Bring her some food, too. I need to go to Mount Ebott."
Olivia nodded.
The moment she was away from human sight, Chara flew to the home of the gods; her home, too.
"Asriel!" she yelled, running through the doors. "ASRIEL! WHERE ARE YOU?!"
"Chara!" he greeted his sister, coming out of the throne room. "You're home!"
"I need you to come with me. There's a human girl. She's very sick. I think she's about to die."
"What?"
"Please, just come with me!"
"Okay!"
They came back to Frisk and Olivia's home and Chara led Asriel up the stairs to the guest room. Olivia was in tears.
"I can't get her to eat!" she wailed. "She won't wake up!"
Asriel got a look at Frisk and his heartbeat quickened. Was this what the recipients of his love magic felt like when they were affected? She was deathly still, but still alive. He assessed her, quickly, hoping his sister didn't notice his hesitation.
"She's not just ill; she's exhausted," he informed Chara. "Her body doesn't have enough energy to fight off what she has. It's as if she's hardly had any decent food or sleep for weeks!"
"Damn it!" Olivia slammed her fist into the wall. "This is all Mother and Father's fault!"
"What?!" Chara growled.
"Mother and Father don't feed her. They make her sleep in the kitchen. The only time she gets any food is when we have guests or I sneak it to her. I hoped it was enough, but…"
"Your parents will pay for this. In the meantime, Asriel, can you save her?"
"Yes, I think so."
Summoning his healing magic, he carefully used it on the comatose human girl. Color returned to her cheeks and she stirred lightly.
"Ugh…"
"Frisk?" Olivia whispered, creeping close to her cousin's side.
"Olivia? Why am I in the guest room?"
"You collapsed from exhaustion, so I brought you up here. Frisk… you almost died."
"I… what?!"
"Calm down," Chara chided. "You're fine now. I owed you a small debt for giving me shelter, so it was the least I could do."
"Thank you. I won't forget this."
"Why would anyone not feed a child?!" Asriel growled as he and Chara returned to Mount Ebott.
"Asriel, you haven't been out there in the world like I have," Chara sighed. "No matter what, people will suffer somewhere. It's just the natural order."
"Still…" His mind drifted back to Frisk.
A grin broke out on Chara's face.
"Oh. My. Gods! You've fallen in love with a mortal!"
"N-no I haven't!"
"Puh-lease, brother. You can't pull the wool over these eyes! You've fallen in love with a mortal!"
"I'm not in love with her! Sure, she's beautiful and hardworking and has an infectious smile and—" He broke off. "What was I talking about?"
"How you're not in love with a mortal. Look, it's no big deal. Mettaton falls for mortals all the time."
"But I cause people to fall in love! I can't fall in love myself!"
"Who says you can't?"
"Besides… I won't be able to be with her for very long before she goes to the Void. Her life is too short…"
"What if we made it just a little bit longer…?"
WHOO! Done!
So, yeah, like I said, I have a poll going on my profile. It will be open until June 30, at which date it will close and you will see the results.
Also…
I'm working on a novel that hopefully one day will get published. It's called… drumroll please…
*drumroll*
Love Thy Sibling!
Here's the summary:
"In a world where supernatural creatures and magic-wielding humans do battle and older sisters name their weapons, eleven-year-old Misty Lovelace has always felt out of place among her more gifted older siblings; Blair the prodigy, Brian the strongman, and Justin the magic guru. She feels like she's not special; like she'll never amount to much.
"One day, however, she discovers a family secret that turns her world upside down. That secret begins a journey of discovery, danger, and deadly enemies. Misty is about to learn that the people she envies… aren't as perfect as she thought."
It's lame; I know. I came up with this at 8:30 at night! Cut me some slack!
Anyway…
That's the end of chapter two! Keep an eye out for chapter 3! Vote in the poll! Tell your friends to vote in the poll! Tell your enemies to vote in the poll!
So long and thanks for all the fish! *hangs up "Gone Fishing" sign*
