Wind beneath my Wings of Freedom

Summary: My name is Kagome. Since the end of my adventures down the well, I've been living in what one might say was an 'alternate universe'. And maybe that's true...the world I knew, was no longer. I came up through the well of a family I had never met...and was taken in by them. I became a storyteller...a tutor...and the caregiver of the orphans near the outer wall Maria in the city Shiganshina. "To them...I'm just a story teller...but to the kids, it's hope that my words reveal."

The Calm before the Storm?

"It's so cold outside." Kagome stepped towards the well and dropped the bucket down to the water before drawing it back up with ease. Next to her was Mikasa who was looking down the well as she brought the pail back up. "Run this one inside, and I will get the next one."

"Right,"

Kagome sighed, taking another pail, she tossed it recklessly down the well and listened for the splash below. Smiling at the echoed sound from below, she started pulling it up and unhitched it from the rope before walking back inside to Kalura. "Need any help with the vegetables?"

"Actually, I was wondering if you would run to the market and buy some Carrots for me, and some cream."

Kagome smiled, "no problem, I'll go now."

Kalura gave her a small money bag and waved her off. Mikasa and Eren could be heard asking to come along, and Kagome paused and looked back, even if she was already a few streets away, she had her ears trained on the voices of the two kids. Smiling when she heard them running to catch up with her, she smiled to see both of them out of breath in front of her.

"How did you know we were coming?" Eren asked, his hand holding Mikasa's as he looked curiously up to Kagome.

"I could hear you...now, let's go. I think I hear Armin too."

"What?!" Eren looked around and ran up ahead curiously only to run into Armin who had just ran around the corner, most likely making his way towards their own house.

"Armin," Kagome smiled, "What are the odds..."

Armin had a nervous, yet excited look on his face, pulling Eren up before moving closer to Kagome with Eren on his heels. "Look! I found a book that my grandpa keeps hidden away!"

"..." Kagome's eyes widened as she kneeled down and looked over a large old book. It was in English, the book was from what looked to be nearly a hundred, maybe...two hundred years ago. "A history book."

Mikasa came forward to see the book, looking curiously at the wear and tear cover.

"It's about things from the outside!"

"Shh~!"

Eren pulled Kagome and Armin away from the busy streets.

"Don't you know anything, Armin! Stuff about the outside world is illegal."

Kagome rolled her eyes, looking down when Mikasa took her hand, she smiled. The girl had become attached to her, in a way, they were a lot alike. Kagome had lost her whole family, everyone...most everyone...had died in front of her, the few who survived, she would still probably never see again. The girl by her side, was an orphan, from what Grisha had told her. Her family had been prosecuted for their last name. Both her mothers and fathers were last names that had obviously attained backgrounds with the government and were wanted wiped from the system. Leaving a little girl as the sole survivor of her family name...Ackerman. Pulling Mikasa closer to them, she sat down. The four of them hiding beneath a bridge and out of the view or hearing range of the other civilians of Shiganshina. Mikasa sat beside her and Kagome held her hand out for the book. "May I?"

Armin handed it over with a large smile. "It's amazingly detailed, it even talks about the waters you had mentioned to me before, the ones I asked you to tell Eren and Mikasa about! It has stuff about oceans of fire, and rocks taller than the outer wall Maria, and-"

Kagome laughed, "Lava,"

"What?"

"It's called Lava." She pointed to the picture of lava, burning fiercely, flowing freely from a large volcano. "It's not an ocean of fire, but I'll tell you one thing, it's definitely hotter than any fire you'll ever get the misfortune of touching. So hot, it'll melt the flesh right off your bones."

Armin's eyes widened, "that sounds horrible!"

"Mm...not everything outside the walls, is beautiful. But...at least you can find out for yourself just what the world has to offer. Be afraid of what you discover, only after you have seen it for yourself, but not before. Some of the things in this book that seem scary, can also be absolutely beautiful and amazing. Inactive volcano's, care often times the main attractions for tourists."

"Tourists?" Mikasa questioned.

"Someone who comes from other lands, cities or countries, they are called tourists if they are coming only to visit." She sighed, "I guess you guys don't really get many tourists."

"No, we don't." Eren glared at the walls. "Who would want to come visit a cage?"

"Let's not call it a cage...Eren. How about...barricaded confinement!"

"Using bigger words doesn't make it any less of a prison."

Kagome nodded. She had never felt so trapped in her life. So used to traveling the plains of a forest, and running around with demons, that the idea of becoming confined within the fifty foot walls surrounding her had left her feeling less than energetic. "I need to go get carrots and cream, you two can stay here and I'll come back and get you on my way home."

Mikasa and Eren nodded before Armin showed them more from his book.

Kagome stepped forward and smiled as she passed one of her friends. Or maybe he was Eren's friend, and he just liked to follow her around.

"Kagome!"
